Move over, Mouthpiece Theater. For every single one of you who has told me I have been too hard on the glibertarians at Reason, I present you the Fonzi of Freedom, Nick Gillespie, putting that Koch Foundation money to good use:
I’m surprised he took off the leather jacket. And I challenge you to find something as absurd as that on any wingnut blog.
On the upside, he wasn’t in a cheerleader outfit.
DougJ
More like “move over, Half Hour News Hour.” I hated Mouthpiece Theater, but this is much worse. Ain’t no ballpark, neither.

I thought the piece was both funny and worthwhile. Obama being named the winner was silly. Of course, he has done much good simply by not being George W. Bush, but when you consider the ongoing wars that at time lead even to civilian deaths, the posturing on Iran, and the near embrace of Bush-Cheney anti-terrorism policies, the award cries out to be satirized.

It was pretty funny until the end. That heavy-handed garbage ruined it. I guess the knowledge of who his audience is kind of ruins it too, but if the Onion did something similar to the first 90% of it, no one would bat an eye.
The Saff
The video is unfunny, just like Jay Leno’s new 10 p.m. show.
Spiffy McBang
It was pretty funny until the end. The problems were that heavy-handed nonsense to finish and the knowledge of his intended audience. But if the Onion did something like the first 90% of it, no one would bat an eye.
Spiffy McBang
Oh, goddammit.
ChrisWWW
Not too bad given how quickly it was put together. The Malkin video you referenced was faaaaaar more absurd.
slag
This video was created by people who watch Jon Stewart but who don’t get any of the jokes.

“The Fonzi of Freedom” deserves a place in the lexicon. Did not watch the video yet. It deserves an alcoholic accompaniment which will have to wait for later.

You really don’t want to challenge us to find something more absurd in Wingnuttia, because, well, because it’s too easy. Say for example Michelle Malkin has deemed it appropriate to criticize the art pics of the Obamas. You, know the art that they borrow to put in the WH including their personal quarters. She actually pulled up an art piece of Alma Thomas’ who she is accusing of “plagiarism” from a Matisse piece. Jeebuz, I don’t know what to say anymore. I was critical of Bush but jeezus, not his f##$$ing taste in art.

I have never had such a fun day at work, I must say. It all started at 5:30am when I heard that the MUP was getting the Nobel Peace Prize and I literally laughed out loud at the thought of the wingnut frenzy. Then I caught my christianist staff assistant in a lie and had to call her out on it, which sent her into a spittle-flecked explanation of how what she said wasn’t really a lie. And then my sister, a professor at a right-leaning private university just up the road from my own public one, called me this afternoon to read me a paper from one of her students in her honors Bible As Literature class in which the student argues (after being told repeatedly and on the syllabus that they were not to argue any of their theses for papers from religious viewpoints but strictly through literary analysis) that the story of Gilgamesh and Inkadu has no homosexual undertones and uses as an authority a Christian rock band.
What a day.
ironranger
That was pathetic. I have no problem laughing at my own team if it is done well. 6th graders making up their own comedy skit could make a better humor video.
Liberals, imo, are just better at humor. The commenters here prove that daily.
One of the top ten reasons I could never be a republican or libertarian.

It’s in there (or was until the php terrorists struck).

In other news, Rush Limbaugh is going to be one of the judges for the 2010 Miss America pageant.
No word yet whether he is going to be compensated for his time with a small honorarium or with a complimentary bottle of hillbilly heroin.
DougJ
Are people for real thinking it was funny? I wanted to find it funny, but it was unwatchable.
Matt
Ok, I admit, I’m stumped on the “mmm mmm mmm” meme that’s going around now. What did I miss? What’s the insult?

@DougJ:
I don’t know who would find that funny, Doug. I love a good laugh, even at the expense of my own team. But that just wasn’t. It was just really stupid.
That paper the girl wrote in my sister’s class, now. THAT was funny (see #19).

that’s a pretty bad toupe on that so-called ‘talent’. He’s trying to look early 20s with the hair (and with the ‘hip’ sideburns) when he’s clearly pushing 50 or so in the face.
Fail. As usual.

I also am curious about that. It makes me think of the Crash Test Dummies, but I don’t think that’s the right idea.

@Brick Oven Bill: OK. Now that was funny spoofery. Credit where it’s due.

@DougJ:
It was funny, but not for the ,ahem, reason Fonzi thought it was funny.
Zifnab
Oh, come on. That was actually an honest go at humor. If SNL or Daily Show end up doing a skit like this before next week, I won’t be surprised.
Even the bit at the end with the Hindenburg in the picture window and the big yellow “We’re Doomed!” scrawl on it was cute. I would have laughed if I didn’t think they took it absolutely seriously.
It would be nice if Reason wasn’t so dead-head partisan that it refused to call out all the absurdity in their own backyard. But that was a perfectly good joke.
r€nato
@Zifnab:
well I guess humor is in the eye of the beholder, but all I saw was a half-funny, obvious joke beaten into the ground.
Zifnab
@r€nato: Wow. No wonder you don’t like Leno. :-p
I don’t know. I like when they can at least get the easy ones right. After the Half Hour News Hour, this is a refreshing breath of not completely moronic.

@Zifnab:
Exactly why it’s not funny.

Gotta go with Zifnab and Spiffy. Not unfunny enuff. Sorries.

Sounds like a fun day.
One of my favorite college classes was “The Literary Use of the Bible,” which was more about how biblical themes and images were represented in English literature than about reading the Bible as literature.
By the way, one of the more creative references to Gilgamesh and Inkadu was in the Star Trek: Next Generation episode, “Darmok.”

Did someone acutally get paid to make that video? Time for the Fonzi of Freedom to get played off, no?

DougJ, I don’t find it funny either. The idea is funny, and theoretically the delivery is funny, but it just doesn’t work.
I imagine that Jon Stewart will do so funny stuff, however.
PanAmerican
I find myself looking for whatever is on his head to jump off.
Elvis Elvisberg
It’s much funnier and less stupid than Milbank & Cilizza’s thing. It’s recognizable as an attempt at humor.
Claiming that he won a Tony for that silly clip of reading the children’s book was actually kinda funny.
MikeJ
Well, someone above said they wouldn’t be surprised to see something like it on SNL, so that’s two people who agree on it.

Ok, I admit, I’m stumped on the “mmm mmm mmm” meme that’s going around now. What did I miss? What’s the insult?
Comes from the shcool children in New Jersey singing Obama’s praises. It’s been spread across the right-wing echo chamber by Rush Limbaugh, of course.
He used it extensively in his gleeful trashing of Obama for losing out on the Olympic bid last week. Now they’re all doing it.
