Joe Wilson’s war

The battle is joined by Erick Erickson:

*******************

Doug:

The Democrat opponent to Congressman Joe Wilson has raised over $100,000.00 since last night.

What have you given to Joe Wilson. The man spoke for America. And now we need to open our wallets for Joe.

It does no good to pat Joe on the back or give him an “atta boy.” Joe Wilson needs us to open our wallets and checkbooks. Joe Wilson is now a serious threat to Barack Obama because he dared point out that the Emperor has no clothes. The left will target him. The left will target his family. The left will try to destroy Joe Wilson.

We can stop the left. But we must give generously to Joe.

Prove that conservatives are not pathetic activists. Put your money where your mouth is.

Give to Joe.

Sincerely yours,

Erick Erickson

the big bold text across the top of the donation page says:

JOE WILSON IS PASSIONATE ABOUT STOPPING GOVERNMENT RUN HEALTH CARE!

should we assume he wants to dismantle the VA ?

…since that’s the only govt.-run health care we actually have in this country (and no new govt-run health care services are proposed).

  5. 5
    TR says:

Actually, Miller has now raised $383,000 on Act Blue, most of it in the last 24 hours. Wilson is getting his ass kicked.

But please Erick Erickson, devote all your fund-raising energies to shoring up a conservative district in South Carolina. Playing defense deep in your own territory really bodes well for Republican prospects in 2010.

So, no, we won’t try to destroy Joe Wilson or his family. Fact is I kinda don’t give a shit about what some fourth-rate Congressman from some Third World cracker-belt state said to the president, and I’ll bet the president doesn’t either.

Given that a majority of American voters elected the man who was speaking to Congress, and a majority of Americans in all sort of polls favor robust health care reform, Erickson must be talking about some other America than the one that exists in reality.

But I think the fact that a lot of Republicans (not all, but more than usual for situations like this) are calling his behavior “unacceptable” and “shameful”–not to mention people like the Dana “The Dick Whisperer” Milbank saying their “insolance” was “appalling”–indicates it won’t just be ponies for everyone this go-round.

Add in the fact that, now, Joe Wilson has a massive bulls-eye on his back. That leads to discoveries like the one above about his finances; the video on the front page of DKos with him yelling hysterically at someone citing the fact that the US supplied chemical weapons to Iraq back in the day; and raising almost a half million dollars for his opponent in less than 24 hours.

If you think those Obstructionist Assholes aren’t taking notes about how this is shaking out, I would say you are sadly mistaken.

Exactly. Don’t give him the chance to become more of an Amerkan Hero than he has already become, AND keep the heat up on him. I mean, as awesome as a censure would be, I think this is a point that people haven’t fully appreciated. From TPM:

Until last night, the 2010 race was shaping up the same way. Wilson had raised $211k by the end of June, against Miller’s $49k.

Now, Miller has raised about $500k. Not only has he overtaken Wilson in terms of fund-raising, but he’s well on his way to wiping out any cash-on-hand advantage Wilson has–if he hasn’t done that already.

And more importantly, in 2008, Wilson outspent Miller 2-1 and only won with 53% in a very conservative district.

Joe Wilson is now officially running on borrowed time.

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.), who apologized last night after yelling “you lie!” during the president’s address to Congress, appeared on Sean Hannity’s radio show to push back against the idea that he was actually wrong.

“At the end of the day, you’re right and the president is wrong,” said Hannity.

“You and I know it’s an expansion of big government, aside from giving benefits to illegal aliens,” said Wilson. He thanked Hannity and talk radio for pushing the issue and educating the public.

“I think that there’s a fear here,” said Hannity. “I think they’re having a hard time dealing with the fact that you were right about immigration.”

Nope, not young – perhaps you consider anyone over 30 who is not Republican to be without brains, I consider anyone who is Republican by their own choice (of any age) to have no conscience.

I do not believe we’re here merely to profit for ourselves and our children, leaving all others to fend for themselves… rather I believe humans are supposed to care for one another and to help each other when one is destitute (it’s about the only thing I have in common with Jesus).

Gasp! I hardly know where to begin, LD … so much superficiality … but let’s try one … and see if it strikes a resonant chord in that very “caring” and “sensitive” Lib conscience … OK?!

47+Million (!!) abortions since the adoption of Roe vs Wade … a cause “championed” by Dems and “fought” by Reps!
Who is without the conscience for these “destitutes”, LD??!! Indeed!!

Re your 2nd point: We are ALL responsible for our decisions and actions … and that concept was formalized in the ubiquitious 10 Commandments, as well as in the tenets of law throughout civilized society … however, there are those unfortunate individuals who are in need of help … through NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN.

It is these that we all feel for and strive to help … even to the expense of our own precious blood … as demonstrated, for example, by our commitment to free millions from the cruelty of tyranny throughout the world … a challange Reps have ALWAYS championed!!

Further, the fact that “free enterprise” motivates achievement is not to be confused with “selfishness”!! Rather, it is the “unwarranted sense of entitlement” which is truly at the core of “selfishness” … demanding the fruits of another’s hard work to fuel indolence!!

Finally, your “qualification” of Jesus is a demonstration of your “free will” … a gift from Him which distinguishes us from animals!

Another “gift” from Jesus is your “beating heart” … suggesting perhaps that you may have more invested in Him than you care to admit!! LOL

So, you’re caring because you need to ensure that every single blastocyst or zygote that starts to form needs to be assured of having the ability to take it’s first breath, but real living and breathing people who can’t take care of themselves are left to fend for their own selves.

No, sorry – and honestly, if a blastocyst or zygote is not white, you probably don’t want it taking up any space in this country anyway.

Rightwingers only care about living breathing human beings before they are actually living and breathing – then they don’t give a damn at all.

You are only ensuring that as many people suffer in Hell as possible (thank goodness Hell doesn’t actually exist). I can assure you, a zygote does not have the nervous system to feel pain. What do you care if a single mother who can’t afford to take care of a child decides to terminate a pregnancy before she has to face that situation? If you want to assure single mothers bring children into the world, then make life better for single mothers to be able to do that. Unless you can see that point, kindly fuck off and take your “cordial” bullshit somewhere else.

Take your old wives tales elsewhere, Jesus is not what you think and if you think I’m going to sit here and be browbeaten by your conventional bullshit “wisdom” to believe Jesus gives me life, you’re sadly mistaken.

Ummm, I never said I don’t believe in God, but I can assure you Jesus had absolutely nothing to do with my beating heart. Why do you insist on allowing a second God to usurp the first?

TB: WOW, LD … all that hatred!! I don’t know where to begin!! LOL!

1st: Going “Postal” is not the way to win me over to your argument (fantasy)!! Furthermore, your irrational tirade runs the risk of convincing the moderates among us that Libs are indeed … “Out-of-control, race-card-playing, ignoramuses”!!

Being a Dem … you well know “Dem Campaign Dogma” … and specifically, the infamous Dem Doctrine … “Perception is Reality”!! Remember??!! LOL

Furthermore, I must correct your use of big words which you obviously have only a minimal knowledge of; … specifically … “blastocyst and zygote”!

It just so happens that I actually took a course in Embryology some years ago … and please know, LD, that the differentiation process is not advanced to the stage of obvious racial characteristics at such an early stage of development!

Further, “Abortion” (the subject we were addressing) refers to a viable “Fetus” … a far more advanced stage of development in the gestation process … Comprendo?!

Finally, your groundless condemnations of all Right-wingers and denunciations of “higher religious beliefs” … only serves to confirm the their perception that Left-wingers are not only uninformed abortion-promoting potheads … but also spineless tofu-chomping dummies and clueless body-piercing horsemen of the apocalypse … so, BEWARE!! LOL

Cordially, TomB (Can’t we all just get along?! LOL!)
