No Tunch, on Tunch futon? Lily looks adorable, BTW

Not very lady-like, but oh so cute.

Yay — a picture of Lily. Since you adopted her, I’ve spent a lot more time lurking.
John Cole
BTW- it is so hot here I just made some shit up for dinner. I sliced two tomatoes, threw them in a bowl with some mandarin orange slices, some walnuts, and some blue cheese, cut up a little fresh basil and ate that. It was different but ok. Anything else would have been too damned heavy.

On 2nd look, that cat’s head……oh never mind.

Very cute Lily.
I actually wouldn’t mind some warmer weather. Summer here in southern Wisconsin didn’t start until after July 4. All of June was highs in the 60’s. The warmest we’ve been all summer is 91 for one day. My kids are turning into tough little buggers though, they get in and out of our backyard above-ground pool several times a day in water that only about 63 degrees.
Notorious P.A.T.
She’s so cute!
At the pet store the other day I talked to a lady who had a dog that looked almost exactly like Lily. She said he was half mini-pinscher and half pomeranian.

@ john cole
did you eat like such a california liberal when you were still a republican? what did you tell your friends?
all of your food choices are quite appetizing.
ellaesther
If I ever wind up breaking down and getting a dog (I grew up with dogs, and loved them, but since having two kids, I find myself — let’s say, hesitant — to deal with the feces of creatures other than myself) it will be in no small part because of all the pet love in this joint.
By which I mean: I’ll be asking you people to dogsit whenever I go out of town.*
*Note: This is not likely to happen because, aside from anything else, the man I married and with I whom I had those two lovely children is allergic, and he begat his mild allergies to his children. I know that some dogs aren’t as much of a problem (like, say, Portuguese Water Dogs**!), but still, the delightful man would have to agree first, and he likes the not-sneezing that’s been going on since the cat shuffled off her mortal coil.
** Guess what? If you’re a lousy speller like me, so you start typing “Portuguese” into Google to make sure you’re not embarrassing yourself in front of John Cole and the gang, you need only reach the “t,” and Goggle’s very first suggestion is “Portuguese Water Dog.” Not that we’re a nation of obsessives. Or anything.

I came back from India yesterday. Spent 2.5 weeks, had a grand time cuz we did a) a mass re-marriage of my wife’s uncles and aunts and my in-laws. It was a big of a big religious trip down to some temples. But I came out of it feeling deeply cynical about the ritualistic nature of Hinduism but still love its philosophical roots as I believe the ritualism is a flaw as people put the ritual ahead of the philosophy (as is true in most organized religions)
b) my grandfather had his 100th birthday and all us put on a show for the entire clan and then another religious ceremony attended by thousands in Mumbai. I once again felt cynical about such things as what I saw was a creepy symbolism of elevating a man to a God because he reached 100. The ceremony itself was sweet, and my grandfather and my grandmother got remarried to similar to the ceremony my in-laws went through although with a lot more pomp. My cynicalism is again based on people’s reaction to this ceremony.. we were all asked to prostrate ourselves at our grandparents feet, but there was mass competition with people trying to get in and doing it. Hell as his grandson (and in fact the next family head since I’m the eldest son of the eldest son) I didn’t even get a chance to do it as other people rushed in, jostling and pushing.. ugh.
The newspaper person who covered the event was pissed off because she didn’t get a chance to get the couple’s blessing so she wrote a generic article with a single sentence regarding my grandparents (and their 100th year achievement was teh focus of the event)
Anyways, there was good parts of the trip as well, family is important. I take that family values shit pretty seriously a lot of the times. Since it was an open end, and I havne’t had a chance to post anything for the past 2.5 weeks other than reading the posts I thought I would throw this up. I’ve beeen head deep in Indian culture and it’s always a bit of a shock to come back to the states. There’s always a tug of wanting to return back…
But where I am a flaming DFH here, I turn into a huge conservative there. Jeezus, you can’t believe the kind of crap government pulls there and you know it’s a corrupt overbearing one as well.. They have an education bill where they don’t want to fail anybody from the 1st – 8th grade probably due to the hyper competitiveness in those school. I’m not sure what the fuck they are going to do after 9th.. a person’s entire career is decided in the 10th grade as that is where your marks determine what kind of college you get into. They also want to force private schools to reserve 25% of people who can’t afford to get in. Ugh.
OK.. finally let that out.. phew.

That’s a cute kid Krista, congratulations again. Glenn Beck has you guys nailed, the whole Monty Python theme on the eugenics thread and all. The strategy is to ridicule and isolate the American messenger with an ‘er’, from Alinsky’s Rule #13:
‘birther’;
‘teabagger’;
‘deather’
This replaces ‘gate’:
‘Monicagate’;
‘Travelgate’; from
‘Watergate’
The goofy thing is that Alinsky’s Jewish ancestors most likely kissed the ground when they arrived here from Russia, having escaped with their lives from the Cossacks. America is really a pretty good place, even for those who like to bitch.
Tonight for dinner is spaghetti, Paul Neuman sauce from Wal Mart’s $1 aisle for which they charged me $3.99 and I didn’t have the stomach to bitch, and some cheese. Yum.

I WAS going to observe that Lily’s crotch spread was more hussy than lady until I read further down the blog that John was thinking it was to too hot to even eat. (Although maybe a male version of Lily would be more likely to do the expose-the-crotch thing).

Lil RedKitten is adorable and not looking newborn at all! Lily is gorgeous and too funny. What’s going with all the “NOW!NOW!NOW!”ers littering the lib/progressive blogsphere lately.
Obama should overturn DADT/DOMA, NOW!
Obama should close GITMO, NOW!
Obama should pass health care reform, NOW!
Obama should regulates banks, NOW!
Obama should fixed what Bush f*d up, NOW!
For the last 6 months, people have been demanding NOW from Obama on everything, so that he could “use his political capitol” while it was hot. Well now his “capitol” has come back down to normal (but still higher than past Prez) .
Since the inauguration, Obama had been asking for patience, but no body wants to wait for anything nowadays. America has been poisoned by the NOW, NOW, NOW, nature of our lives today. Want food delivered “instantly” to your door, here ya go. Don’t waste the time going to the bookstore to by the new book, here’s your new kindle, get your books NOW. Don’t want to wait to buy your favorite artist music in the stores, get it on ITUNES, NOW!!!

I would have liked to see Specter pull what he pulled on Anita Hill on the firefighter. I know its not exactly the same situation but I will always remember the way Anita Hill got a cross examination from Specter like she was a mass murderer. OTOH, I was watching the Specter HC townhall and his body language to me was totally saying “these people are out of their minds nutsowhackos”. I also remember seeing him at a Palin rally during the election and he really looked out of place. BTW, how come I haven’t heard of Lieberdick having a townhall?

@Betsy: I’m not a huge fan of the shaky camera stuff. It seemed to come into the mainstream with Bourne Ultimatum. It was ok there, but one gimmick that makes one film doesn’t mean everyone has to do it, ok?
The Other Steve
Oh, speaking of movies. Perfect Getaway is a great summer film. It’s not deep or thought provoking, but it’s a good old fashioned thriller.
I was worried when they started playing trailers to SAW and shit like that, but Getaway turned out very nice. It’s about a couple who on their honeymoon goes hiking in Hawaii and encounters a serial killer. From there it get’s twisted a bit.
OUTSTANDING!

Tonight’s dinner, chicken breast sandwiches. Take 1 pound boneless chicken breast and tenderize with a hammer. I recommend doing this after watching the O’Donnell clip linked to in another one of tonight’s topics. Fantasize about repeatedly slamming your tenderizing hammer into the head of John Culberson. It feels good, watch the chicken glisten as the tenderizing hammer hits it and imagine John Culberson on his knees in front of you screaming and crying and begging you not to hit him again with the
baseball battenderizing hammer. Ask him if he wants to repeal Medicare and Social Security and when he evades the question and claims to be a Jeffersonian bring thebathammer down again, this time on his collarbone. Imagine, as thebathammer comes down, Culberson screaming “This is why nobody likes you. This is why everyone’s going to FaceBook. Imagine the blood splattering everywhere, making you think to yourself “I’m in my very own Sam Peckinpah film”. Imagine Quentin Tarantino watching the YouTube™ video of youbeating on Culbersontenderizing the chicken and decides to offer you a role in his next film.OK, once you
have beaten Culberson to a quivering hunk of whimpering blood puddingtenderized the chicken, flour both sides of each piece. Salt and spice each piece. I just salted each piece with Bacon Salt™ until it was pleasingly orange.Melt 2 Tbsp butter in a frying pan. Cook each piece of chicken until it is done (remember kids, chicken tartare is a bad idea). Add more butter if you need it. The chicken should have a thin golden brown crust on the outside and nicely moist inside.
Toast sourdough bread and coat one side with Dijon™ mustard and not that useless American pussy mustard. Slice the chicken into pieces so it fits on the bread. Coat chicken liberally with more Bacon Salt™ , add cheddar cheese. For a veggie I had some prefab vegetarian kebabs that I got at the grocery store.

@Betsy: Two words–ginger pills. I used to take Dramamine while flying, and it knocked me out. However, I would be groggy afterwards for HOURS. Ginger pills keep the nausea at bay (thus, ginger ale), and it doesn’t make me groggy. Yeah, you may get a funny look popping pills during a movie, but so be it.

Summer salad:
1 grated carrot (large)
1 tomato, cut up
1 avocado, cut up
2-3 green onions, cut up
cilantro/mint/whatever
….whatever other veggies you need to clean out of the veggie drawer
6-8 fingerling red potatoes, boiled and cut up
or handful chickpeas, soaked and boiled
Add more protein (tuna fish/sardines/ham/whatever)
Dress with lots of salsa, olive oil (if you insist)
This makes a large bowl of salad, sufficient for 2-3 meals. Will keep in fridge for 2-3 days.
