Is there a way we can have a pool or something resembling it for predictions of when Krista pops?

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I needed that.
Off to bed a happier and better person.

Demo Woman
Best pic ever! Wednesday night the moxie girl fell off the bed or something and made painful cries at four in the morning.
Of course being the good dog owner, I arose from my bed picked her up and rubbed her tummy. This morning about the same time she was on the floor but the sounds were not quite so painful. Didn’t work! What was it that Bush said about fool me once…

Lily says “I squeeze your head”.
Red Sox and Yankees August madness!
Indylib
That would appear to be a very, very happy dog. Mine is currently propping her chin on the back of her $600 chair and giving me her best pouty look that will last until my husband and boys are home from the movie. She has eyebrows, so pouty is very obvious on her.

Does she do that little sneezy thing when you get her all wound up? Does she know her name is “Lily” yet? Just wondering how easy/unpossible it would be to change a pet’s name.
asiangrrlMN
Awwww, there’s the sweetest Lily in the world!
TunchTunchTunch. Cole, you know I’m gonna keep bugging you until you post a pic of the Tunchinator.
hoosierspud
I can’t believe how much Lily has changed in such a short time. She was such a timid, mousy little animal before and now she’s a DAWG!
John Cole
@Joshua Norton: She sneezes like crazy.
I don’t think she knows her name yet, but she knows my voice and “come” and “walk.” But she knows I am the pack leader and is always close to me.
I’ve almost got her to the point on the trail that depending on which hip I hit with my hand, she comes to that side. If I say “Lily, come, and hit my right hip, she comes to that side.” We are getting there. Going to do obedience school sometime, but it has only been two months. I just wanted her to get comfortable. I was going to go a couple weeks ago but a bunch of you told me to wait.
My favorite thing she does is that she just collapses on my lap. She hops up, and then rolls over so she is on her back while on my lap, and passes out. I’ve never seen a dog go so limp.
Best dog ever.
Comrade Mary
Aww, so cute. And you didn’t even ‘shop out her nipplage this time.
Laura Clawson
Dogs are better for blogging, because they do more stuff. Lily poses in so many different ways, whereas Tunch is usually doing some version of a glare on the couch. Which is not to say we don’t want to see the variety of glares.

TB Rays over the hometown Ms here, 5-2. And I have to watch the Sox in cartoon version on the web.

My son’s friend rescued what looks like a Maine coon kitten. She was septic from a bite wound and they took extraordinary steps to save her. After a week of good food and antibiotics, her weight was UP to half her normal weight.
We picked her up at that point and took her to our vet to arrange shots/spay/declaw. Surprise! She was a very teeny expectant mother. I was rather stunned that the Vet said it was up to us whether or not to go ahead with the spaying (the kitten would be at a little higher risk).
Well, don’t tell the Pope, but we had the abortion and she did well enough to declaw as well. Now she is home to make Ravel (16-year-old cat) a raving lunatic.
Now, Paige (as in Jimmy Paige) replaced our 19 year-old cat we had put to sleep last year and Ravel was lonely, but he is not liking giving up top cat status. His nickname is now GOP.
I call Paige Obama because no matter how many hissy fits (literal) Ravel throws at him, NOTHING bothers her.
Looking forward to her full weight!

Crashman06
@JK: No, way. Someone like the Astros will beat them in the Series… At least, I hope…..Half of my family were Yankees fans. I love them, but they make me sick.
MikeJ
The slow crash and burn of the sox? Do you not remember how it was not that many years ago? At this point they’d still be trying to get our hopes up before dashing them.
I’ve not lived in Boston since they won the series, but people tell me it’s not the same. Fans actually expect them to win now. Back in my day (you whippersnappers) we always knew that in the end they’d fuck it up. Took a lot of the stress out.

I’m a native New Yorker and I’ve hated the Yankees’ guts from the time I first started following baseball back in the early 1970’s. It’s a real bummer living in NY when the Yankees are on a roll.
Going into this series, I figured the Red Sox would go 1-3.
The Sox have looked pretty lifeless to me since the All-Star break.
Something Fabulous
Thanks for the pics today– very cheering, and I too needed it. My Dad went to the hospital for the third time this week, tonight. Which in light of this week in the news makes me think two things:
1) he has medicare (and the VA for meds), and the extortionately expensive supplemental blue cross for everything else, and thank god for that combo; between them all it’s still a hassle, but he can go any time he feels bad, to the hospital of his choice and get whatever treatment, no question. And the Blue Cross piece is of course always the hardest to deal with. I cannot imagine him at a town hall telling other people he wants his America back, or government out of his care, he just wants me to be able to afford insurance again.
2) I hope we can turn the conversation of end of life directives back from “Death Boards” or whatever the hell to the counselling it really means. Makes all the difference, to know what your parents want.

so, the new wingnut talking point is that health care reform must include tort reform. As a lawyer, I have a shit ton of problems with this. First, they already tried that with Bush (and their answer is always the same: limit damage awards). Second, tort law is governed by the states, not the feds, which sort of blows a hole in their whole “federalist” argument. Third, damage awards aren’t about evil lawyers, they’re usually about asshole insurance companies that don’t want to pay for the negligence of the doctors. Fourth, fuck them. Fifth, it is incredibly frustrating for me, again, as an attorney, that so many people who supposedly understand these things (to see other attorneys, ahem, Hugh Hewitt, speak about the need for tort reform is incredibly stupid) simply don’t.
MBSS
tort reform:
1. minor aspect of health care. less than one percent.
2. do people know how many people doctors kill with their accomplices, Big Pharma? multiple drugs with contraindications are a major, major problem.
3. texas has some tough tort reform laws and what do you think that done for their state? bingo.
4. why the fuck do the right want to blame everything on lawyers? is it because their corporate masters hate anyone who might represent the little guy against larger multinationals with tremendous leverage, and deliver a blow to the only thing that matters to them, their wallets?
5. Also

@Alan:
That was a great segment. However, this week leaves me with the sinking feeling that the wingnuts outnumber the rationalists.
Joshua Norton
I’ve always noticed that some of the biggest flag-wavers for tort reform are the bought-and-paid-for corporate attorneys. But of course they would be. I mean it’s easier to save their corporate overlords big bucks if the law says it’s the way it has to be done. Gives them more time to sit on their ass behind a shiny desk and play big shot, usually while their secretary does the bulk of their work.
What’s more annoying is no ever seems to have enough brains to call them on it. They just stare and blink at the cherry picked distractions said same attorney will toss at them, like the McDonald’s hot coffee incident.

I became a Dodgers fan in 1959, so I didn’t experience Yankee hatred personally until 77-78. However, I read all about my team’s history and absorbed all those defeats in the 40s and 50s. 1963 & 1981 were sweet, sweet revenge.

The Main Gauche of Mild Reason
You know, I was watching a video of one of those nuclear town halls with the congressman trying to convince people that no, the health care bill was not going to have them killed at age 65, and the frantic “how can we believe you?!” —and it occurred to me how genuinely terrifying it must be to be a wingnut when the GOP bosses see fit to rile you up.
Most of these particular people are people who’re too busy with their families or working or are educationally unequipped to evaluate political arguments on their own. So the only way they pick up politics is tribally–by believing what other people they perceive as “like them”. These people get news only from Fox and other “trusted” right-wing news sources. And Fox et al have convinced them that Democratic politicians are not just corrupt, but actively malicious and evil, and will do everything to deceive. And what’s more, they either live in areas where either their neighbors or their social group are in the exact same position as they are.
So when Glenn Beck or Sarah Palin gets up there telling them that Obama’s bill will cause them to be euthanized at 65, they literally have no one to turn to for a talking down. All their friends are hearing the same thing. They don’t know how to look up legislation online and see for themselves, or how to evaluate if a piece of reporting is unbiased. So while Sarah Palin, Bill Kristol, or Glenn Beck think of their little lies as something not very serious, something to maybe nudge the discourse a bit–to the true believers it is serious business and they are TERRIFIED.
It reminded me of that older woman at the McCain rally last fall, with the “I don’t trust Obama…he’s and ARAB…terrorist…” where she looked about to cry or faint. It’s more than just disingenuous, it’s cruel.
Redhand
Tunch is just disgusted.

A Mom Anon
@The Main Gauche of Mild Reason:
The hard thing about these folks is that they won’t listen to anyone who tries to talk them down anyway. I lost my parents and sister to this crap about 6 yrs ago, they absolutely seem to,well, thrive off of all this drama and trauma. I’ve sat and read them bills and other things over the phone or showed them in person so they could see it themselves and you know what? My mom actually insisted that the REAL bill wasn’t online,it was some planted thing to steer people wrong. They live in their own mentally disturbed little subculture and simply cannot be reached. It’s WAY easier for my family to believe I’m evil and not to be trusted than it is for them to believe that their church and wingnut political/bidness community would lie their asses off to them. I suspect my family is not unusual either.
And that is the reason I take this shit personally and why I loathe wingnuts so much. They don’t care who they hurt or how much damage they do.
A Mom Anon
Oh,and John, your story with Lily has convinced me to get a doggie. Once things settle a little around here,I’m going to the shelter to pick out a new family member. Lily has simply blossomed in your care, she’s lovely. You’re a good man John Cole.

Take Palin’s statement last night:
“The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s “death panel” so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their “level of productivity in society,” whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.”
And run it. You get back this. Makes about as much sense, maybe more, with the “I’m like a bad system.”
“Level I “in front of, in the absence of the death of his parents,” social production “, syndrome, love, Obama’s health insurance in the United States, the value of my baby,” the panel is subjective, it It is from under the bridge. I’m like a bad system.”
You also get the following notice:
“It is doubtful that this phrase will ever reach equilibrium.”

You’re exactly right. You cannot reason with unreasonable people. My family is similar, and no matter how many facts I present to them, they trot out the Beck/Limbaugh/Hannity talking points. At some point a sane person realizes that you’re just beating your head against a brick wall. These people scare the shit out of me, truly. I keep hoping sanity will prevail, but I fear by the end of this month, if things keep going this way, something tragic will happen.
Try not to let the worry drag you down. Focus helping your husband get his health back. Easy for me to say, I know. Still, it helps me to know that there are actually some sane people left in this country.

@KG:
“so, the new wingnut talking point is that health care reform must include tort reform.”
The argument is that juries are too stupid to evaluate the work of doctors.
But juries aren’t too stupid to evaluate the work of engineers, or contractors, or auto mechanics, or investment advisors, for that matter.
Juries are also not too stupid to evaluate complicated forensic evidence in criminal matters, but only of they convict, if they don’t convict they were probably too stupid to convict.
Juries aren’t too stupid to mete out a death sentence, but they can’t be trusted to set a damage award?
It’s not really a tort reform argument. It’s a “protect the professional elites from evaluation by a jury argument”.
All other professions and persons and contract relationships are subject to evaluation by a jury. But not physicians, who should be exempted, by federal statute.
I’ve been reading this stuff for years, and I’ve come to the conclusion it’s an attack on the jury system.
Maybe conservatives reject evaluation by a “jury of their peers” because in their mind we’re NOT their peers.

Idiots aren’t idiots because we didn’t give them decent day care options. They’ve chosen idiocy. I’m not saying that it’s modern society’s fault, I wasn’t attaching blame. But you’re probably right, and that the blame probably lies more on the side of intellectual laziness and the convenience of ignorance. I think though, that the point stands that these are people that really are not equipped to participate in modern political debate, and having them thrust into an arena where they can’t dismiss all the scary fearmongering thrown about is cruel. Ideally these people would just not get involved in politics–although come to think of it, I have a feeling that many of these types don’t vote.
