I give Rich Sanchez a ton of credit for his smackdown of Conservatives for Patients’ Rights founder Rick Scott. But there was nothing dirty about it, aside from Scott’s smarmy answers.
It’s nice to see an anchor do his job properly.
Sanchez did a terrific segment on reactions to Sotomayor a few weeks ago as well.
Chris Johnson
I just find that guy so unbearably creepy. He keeps doing Charles Manson eyes at the camera. *shudder*
JGabriel
Sanchez has been on a bit of roll lately. I think the GOP lost him with all the anti-Hispanic (and anti-Sotomayor) shit.
.
Ash
He may act like a jackass sometimes, but Sanchez is one of the few people actually willing to confront his guests.
ruemara
Is it too much to ask for other news venues to do this, thing, this…..investigating and the asking of hard questions? Does it involve a sacrifice? May I suggest a republican to place on the altar?

Teabaggers getting out of control. Who could have predicted this?

I give
Rich SanchezRachael Maddow a ton of credit for her smackdown of Conservatives for Patients’ Rights founder Rick Scott.Watch the first part of her show tonight. I love that woman.
JD Rhoades
“1.7 billion dollars sounds like a lot…”
Yep.
Demo Woman
@Chris Johnson: I had on CNN and muted the sound because I had a phone call. Scott is beyond creepy. Watch the clip with no sound to get the full effect.
MTmofo
What Ash said.
Most times Sanchez comes across like a local yokel TV guy with his folksy, chatty, kinda Ted Baxter shit. But sometimes, like with Scott, he shines.
28 Percent
Who knows better how easy it is to defraud the taxpayer than a guy who made his billions defrauding the taxpayer, huh?
Did you ever think of that?
Ash
Maddow seems to know more about this guy on her show than he knows about himself…
Just Some Fuckhead
I’m starting to understand why John doesn’t pay you.
someguy
The nerve of those fuckers, trying to purchase influence and pass it off as a grass roots uprising.
madmommy
Geez that guy is creepy! I don’t think he blinked at all the last couple of minutes. He reminds me of Michael Chertoff and not in a good way.
Dave C
If even half of our news anchors were willing to do stuff like this, our country would be in a very different place right now.
MikeJ
There’s a good way to remind you of Michael Chertoff? Deposed and powerless?
Calouste
@JD Rhoades:
“1.7 billion dollars sounds like a lot…”
It almost pays for one B-2 bomber or two days in Iraq.
cj
I’ve seen many of Rich Sanchez CNN shows and I know that he go to someone’s throat if he has to, but in this instance he wasn’t hitting the guy hard enough than what I know Rich can do.
And yes, that dude is mad creepy.
Beeb
I guess I’ll have to forgive Sanchez for his ignorance earlier in the program when he announced that Sotomayor had been confirmed because she had passed the “magic number” of 60 votes. Still, wouldn’t you think a CNN anchor would know that’s the vote necessary for cloture, not confirmation? That confirmation is upper down? You wouldn’t? Oh yeah, right, CNN. Sorry I mentioned it.
Stop Medicare
Leave it to a bunch of Obamabots to tear down a hard working American that’s trying to provide healthcare services. Typical.
madmommy
@MikeJ:
I live in NOLA. I would prefer to see Mr. Chertoff and Mr. Brown tied to a couple of large fire ant hills.
Ash
OT: Oh man, did anyone see that clip of Fareed Zakaria and Hilary? As soon as he mentions Bolton’s name she busts out laughing. GOLD.
Ash
@Stop Medicare: Man, if you want to be a troll you have to try harder. Trying being humorous, throw in a little xenophobia. Extra points for misogyny.
Also, if anyone wants to see the Fareed/Hillary clip:

Damn, is it just me or does that fucker look like Reverend Kane from “Poltergeist II” only younger?
AnotherBruce
Why is Rick Scott lying on CNN and not rotting in a lice infested 8×8 prison cell?
Oh I know, he stole too much money to do prison time.
Comrade Kevin
@Stop Medicare: At least put some effort into it.
jcricket
If this is how riled up they can get 100 days into the Obama administration, over an issue like healthcare reform where the plan is barely a change over our current system – I shudder to think what the next 7 years will bring.
Actually, I take that back. While I don’t enjoy their violence, or over-the-top rhetoric, I think highlighting the fact the GOP is basically catering to the bat-shit insane wing, is a good thing for our political system long-term. If it hastens the day when the GOP is nothing but a 25% party and concentrated in 5-10 states, it’s fine by me.
On the other hand, if it continues while the party maintains a 40%+ lock on Congress, we’re in for some serious doo-doo.
Punchy
Why is there an ad to my left that has — and I’m not joking — a dog with a grilling fork stuck in its head?
Good fucking god, gruesome.
Just Some Fuckhead
@Punchy: I think it’s an ad for a Chihuahua cookbook.
JGabriel
Stop Medicare: Wow, that Stop Medicare site is great!
I can’t even tell if it’s GOPer’s shooting themselves in the face, or lefty ratfucking. Kudos!

@Just Some Fuckhead: Oh. I HATE it when I go till this late at night without a full body laugh that makes my bladder leak.
Wow. It was worth the wait. I had not even noticed that ad. So glad I pour money into running my own.
That is so fucking funny I probably won’t be able to sleep now for another hour, I’m all wound up.
cynic
Better than nothing (aka “Crowley”) but not exactly The Grand Inquisitor. Sanchez was ill-prepared – Scott is a side-of-a-barn sized target – and could have demolished most of those talking points with a better grasp of the facts. “Your record isn’t exactly ‘sterling,’ why should people listen to you?” constitutes praising with faint damns imo. Ron Howard’s evil twin has been disembowelled in print; too bad Amy Goodman doesn’t work for CNN …
kommrade reproductive vigor
I must say I’m l-o-v-i-n-g the fact that the guy who headed up the biggest public healthcare heist in history is leading The Deliver Us from Communis Enemas brigade.
And that ad? Jesus Christ going up the down escalator! Can we have the Pam Androidson ad back?
Shit, and I don’t even like Chihuahuas.
Just Some Fuckhead
@kommrade reproductive vigor:
Yer prolly just not cooking em right.
Something Fabulous
@Ash:
Hey Ash, thanks for posting that! It was great to see her take that tone: confident, knowledgeable, not parsing in any kind of bureaucratic speak, but just laying it out. And then laugh just made the whole thing. Just the mention of John Bolton’s NAME!…
Batocchio
I’ve only seen Sanchez in clips, but aside from that taser bit, every time he’s been really pretty good. He actually calls bullshit.
Don
Sanchez is a piece of shit. If he did something good, well, broken clocks and 2x a day and all that.
He got an anchor spot on the Miami FOX news when I was a teen and was a major player in their “if it bleeds, it leads” sleazeball coverage for years. In the early 90s I remember being treated to him squatting over a map of Iraq on the floor pointing at things, which was actually somewhat of a refreshing change of pace from the way he normally would lean on the desk, practically straining towards the camera as if he was going leap through your tv to show you a bloody knife or something.
The peak was when he hit some pedestrian late at night and then just drove home. He came back to the scene later and, after being breathalized and found to be over the legal limit, claimed he’d had a few drinks at home to steady his nerves. To the best of my knowledge he never spent a day in jail even though the fellow eventually died.
If I didn’t loathe cable news already his presence would certainly do it.

Stop Medicare: Wow, that Stop Medicare site is great!
I can’t even tell if it’s GOPer’s shooting themselves in the face, or lefty ratfucking. Kudos!
That site is prime. Ironic in a way that will go right over the heads of the dimwit clown-hall screamers:
“Q. Are the elderly people enrolled in Medicare happy with their experience?
A. NO! Among those 65 or older, the people most likely to be enrolled in Medicare, only 80 percent rated Medicare favorably. Worse, only 62 percent of 65 and older felt that Medicare was “well run.””

Nobody. SATSQ
@Stop Medicare: You know, if we reform the healthcare system, we might actually find Obama’s birth certificate. It’s probably buried under the voluminous piles of denied claims forms at Aetna’s HQ.
Lola
Meh. That was just an okay smackdown. We have all just lowered our standards so much that a little Journalism 101 is shocking. Sanchez could have been a lot harder on him, IMHO.
parksideq
I’d wager that when Rick Scott sleeps at night, he still stares out into the dark with those crazy eyes. Even Bush wouldn’t be able to see any soul in those eyes.
Rosali
@DougJ: But there was nothing dirty about it
Then why go with that title?
chrome agnomen
quote from the hillary/fareed clip:
“…certain countries that i think are kind of beyond the pale, of the rule of law, hold people and subject them to long prison terms that are absolutely unfair and unwarranted…”
ahem.
RememberNovember
Rick Scott looks like he’s on some self-medication.
Never trust someone with two first names.
