Poor Dick Cheney- he has lost his mojo:
A new poll indicates Americans don’t agree with former Vice President Dick Cheney’s recent assertion that President Barack Obama’s actions have increased the chances of a terrorist attack against the United States.
The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey also suggests that most people support the president’s plans in Afghanistan — up to a point.
Seventy-two percent of those questioned in the poll released Monday disagree with Cheney’s view that some of Obama’s actions have put the country at greater risk, with 26 percent agreeing with the former vice president.
Twenty-six percent, which is, as we all know, well within the margins of the crazification factor.

Dick is a di@k.

Never, and I mean NEVER mention Dick Cheney and Vlagra in the same post. It was bad enough when Bob Dole did those commercials…oh, those were for Pepsi? Same difference. (Yes, I know he did Vlagra commercials, too). Now, I must go scrub my eyeballs with lye. Thanks, John.
Sigh. Gotta love moderation.
P.S. I want names of the people who agree with Dick Cheney so I know of whom I should steer clear.
BDeevDad
They also trust him more on the economy.
JenJen
26%. Seriously?
I guess that explains the large number of "you dirty lib scum hate the military with every core of your being" posts on all the pirate story comment sections around the interwebs today.
26%. Wow. That’s way too many.
Michael
Somebody needs to send Dick a Wild Turkey gift box, a highball glass and an old-fashioned cork popgun.
That way, he can relax and get hammered while not being a threat to any living thing.
asiangrrlMN
@BDeevDad:
And just about everything else Obama has done thus far. So, Cheney, go crawl back into your hole at some undisclosed location. OK? OK!

And yet there will still be Republicans who will rant/rave about how most Americans think/believe Obama’s actions make us less safe. Pathological.

The amazing thing is that this means they are starting to lose even the crazies.

You know, I always wondered about this with Rove. Bush’s numbers were going down and Rove had him all over the TV. After Katrina it became the whole familiarity breeds contempt principle.
The more he was on TV the worse his numbers got, the worse his numbers got the more he was on TV. I didn’t understand it then, and I don’t understand it now. People don’t like them. They really don’t like them, why do they keep throwing their worst representatives on TV?
JL
@asiangrrlMN: lol, ditto… The idea of Dick being a bigger dick than he already is nauseates me.

Fixed.
But I might lose the "barking mad" label. "Suffering severe cognitive or emotional disabilities" is the preferred nomenclature. It’s not nice to make fun of people who have a disability, and just because you can’t see their disability, doesn’t make them any less

I think the crazies finally had the courage to open up their 401(k) statements for the first time since last fall.
I know for a fact that the precipitous drop in the markets earned Obama a few votes among the apathetic/slightly Republican people whom I know.

John, I know you were making a joke that Viagra won’t help the vice-president’s poll go up but I feel like I should point out that Viagra could very well kill the vice-president with his heart condition. So, in the sense that we often feel better about the recently deceased, Viagra could help.
The Cat Who Would Be Tunch
Pffft. This proves nothing. Facts have a liberal bias, dontcha know?
@JenJen:
Yeah, I noticed that too. I’ve noticed this trend on a lot of techie sites I visit. Lately, it seems that the right wing peeps have been coming out of the woodwork. Even on the most apolitcal tech stories, it doesn’t take two or three posts until the damn thread devolves into mindless Obama bashing or Obama worship once in a while.
My favorite random comment from the last week was by a person who accused Democrats for being the reason the US got into every war for the last 50 years. As one of several examples, he blamed Carter for being too weak on the international stage, thus causing the Cuban Missile Crisis, which Reagan had to deal with. The other examples weren’t as silly but they weren’t that much better either.
On a completely random note, I gotta say that a blog on politics with ads to kitty media mosaics, VirtuaGirlHD, and Furminators is just so full of win.
BDeevDad
@gex: They still have the Pumas.

So, you talk about vi agra and then I am scrolling through and there is a naughty geek girls ad on the side.
Are you trying to get me fired?
Still, I think this is all part of their reverse osmosis. Pushing all the normal folk out of the GOP to leave only the muck behind.
They’ve already caught one potential domestic terrorist. It seems about time for people to more seriously use O’Reilly’s arguments against rap music against Glenn Beck.

Ya know, Cheney would make a credible villain in the next Austin Powers movie. The credit could read "And Dick Cheney as … Himself."

The Cat Who Would Be Tunch
I had to remind some folks earlier today that it was George H W Bush who originally sent troops into Somalia right before he left office, not Clinton as it is normally suggested. Clinton pulled them out after black hawk down for sure but he had been drawing down troops already in anticipation for turning over the mission to the UN. But there have been no shortage of blogs and stories over the weekend trying to make an analogy between this pirate situation and "Clinton’s failure in Somalia".
asiangrrlMN
@JL: I have a running joke with my best friend (and other friends) ever since it was discovered that there were no WMDs in Iraq. We realized (during a night of imbibing) that Clinton almost got impeached because of Lewinsky, but Bush didn’t suffer any repercussions (thus far) for lying about WMDs. So, it seems that the only thing to take down Bush would be a sex scandal. We divvied up his administration, but neither of us would touch Cheney, not even for our country.
MikeJ
Of course the reason why Clinton was trying to draw down the troops in Somalia was that the GOP was yelling and screaming about not having an exit strategy and using the military for nation building. This despite the fact that, as you point out, Bush sent the military in, not Clinton.
It’s hard to believe. The GOP once actually said we should never, ever, ever, ever send in the military without a clear idea of how to leave or what victory looks like. That only holds true with a dem in the White House though.

Yeah, the level of misinformation can be startling. And to think that people vote for the most powerful government in the world based upon this stuff…*shudder*
It’s funny you should mention the Bush Sr.-Clinton-Somalia example because I had been thinking how the story would play out if some incident occurs as the troops are being pulled from Iraq. Suddenly, it’s no longer "Bush’s War" but rather "Obama’s Failure". Initially, I would just wave off this idea, thinking that it was too ridiculous. Now after this piracy incident and the accompanying "Clinton failed" meme, I think it’s a foregone conclusion.
Tonal Crow
@The Cat Who Would Be Tunch:
That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard in weeks, even funnier than "teabaggers". Heck, it’s even funnier than the "National Organization for Marriage"’s latest anti-gay-marriage campaign, which they call "2M4M".
Martin
The good news is that the other end of the spectrum doesn’t have as many rabid partisans. Bush’s disapproval ratings stayed in single digits for months after 9/11, with a brief approval rating over 90%. I think we all agree that if Obama had been president for 9/11, that he’d never have seen such numbers. It’s a one-sided phenomena, at least in scale.
Not only ‘once actually’, but Bush actually campaigned on that in 2000. It’s why some of us thought he might actually be an okay president. Turns out he was a lying sack of shit. But y’all knew that already.

Well, it is getting kind of hard to distinguish the genuine wingnuts from the folks egging them on: a lot of folks have gotten the disjointed, irrational (and misspelled) jargon down. Of course, usually it is the real thing, but if you see a reference to "Truck Nutz", it isn’t.

And it was an explicit part of the "Powell Doctrine." Which is why some of us thought Powell’s presence on GWB’s team would make him the voice of reason. Turns out he was a tool.

Try as he might, Obama cannot keep capitalism down. Goldman Sachs reports $1.8B profit and wants to repay TARP loans.
No doubt, liberals will hysterically try to find a way to keep their fingers in the pie.

my estimate of the absolutely insane republican population percentage is 12%, which is a fixed number. Thus the "lying or stupid" and "in it for the money" percentage is now 14%, down from approximately 25% in 2000. Bush did manage to accomplish something.
The Dangerman
I think we should feel sorry for Cheney; the fucker’s heart is going to give out someday and the only non-Family showing up at the funeral will be the Minister.

@Wisdom: Thank goodness, all that money that was supposed to make Goldman-Sachs collapse was… wait, what the fuck are you trying to say?

Thank FSM that Oily Dick was in charge of counter-terrorism during the first eight months of the Chimp regime and used that authority hold exactly one meeting, which focused on carving up Iraq’s oil fields.
We can thank his anti-terrorism diligence for foiling that horrible fantastical plot to fly hijacked planes into buildings in September 2001, and quickly rounding up Osama Bin Laden and the other ringleaders and bringing them to American justice.
So of course he is a powerful voice on "keeping America safe". We should all listen to his wise, impartial and not-at-all self-serving or corrupt counsel.

Lou Dobbs is blowing his load over the Teabag parties right now. Maybe I’m out of the loop, but it seems like CNN has avoided this story for weeks, and then suddenly today there have been reports on it every single hour. I wasn’t listening closely but I think I just heard them mention ACORNs plans to disrupt the protests too, with Dobbs ending the segment "and as always the truth lies somewhere in the middle"
28 Percent
It is true it does not matter if you do not agree we are at risk but we can let the terrorists know that it does not matter if the country voted for the wrong guy once we can always go back. There are tea parties on Wednesday that is tax day which makes it SYMBOLIC but there will be millions and that will show the world that the US is still STRONG. You may not think we can get so many in a grass roots cause like this but you will be surprised because there are robocalls going out to alert conservatives even the ones who do not use the internets about the tea parties I know I just got one. That is how strong a grass roots movement this is it even can put together robocalls. That is because we live in America the GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD

Not to mention San Juan Hill and Pearl Harbor.

Two problems with Somalia for the wingnuts:
1) An overabundance of black people.
2) An overabundance of sceeery Moooslims.
Other than that, it’s a fracking "glibertarian" GOPer paradise. But those two make it a show-stopper.

@The Cat Who Would Be Tunch:
It’s never ending on Global Chat in the MMO Age Of Conan. The conspiracy nuts seem to have that place locked, at least on the server I play on. We have birthers and others but it always turns into bashing Obama, bashing anyone who disagrees with the person bashing Obama and bashing europe.
Usually it’s one little twit who always runs this script that says "Thanks to all our US Service Members" or some crap. As soon as someone says "geez what’s up with that" it turns into how everyone who doesn’t like seeing the global window spammed hates the troops, is a commie socialist and other rot.
I feel even worse for the Canadians who play on that server cuz they get slammed too.
Ash
@NonyNony: I was just pondering this, there’s literally NOWHERE disaffected Republicans can go. No other country in the world (that I can think of at this moment) is as crazy conservative as they are, while still being white and Christian. At least the rest of us have Canada.

How long before we see Erick Erickson of RedState exulting:

I never approved of Bush–ever. I want to know who gets polled because many of the results seem suspiciously skewed. Unless the polling is done by Nate Silver, it’s useless. (Yes, that was snark, in case I was too subtle).
As for 28%, if not a parody troll, try to be a little more literate in your nuttiness, please. Otherwise, you are just reinforcing the stereotype that the rightwingnuts are intellectually imbecilic and emotionally stunted. In other words–try not to make a total ass of yourself–only half a one.

I think with some effort they could turn a former Soviet satelite into a wingnut paradise. Of course Christian will mean either Catholic or Orthodox, but you can’t have everything. Georgia seems like a good bet, they got the kind of crazy, incompetent big-balls leader they crave for.

David Shuster, just now on Countdown, on the astroturf nature of the teabaggers: "If you’re planning a nation-wide teabagging event, you’ll need a Dick Armey".

apropos of nothing in particular, i just saw david schuster’s intro to the teabagging spectacle on countdown and the sheer number and quality of the double entendre’s had me rolling on the freaking floor. if it pops up somewhere on the intertubes you should definitely watch it! best line: when speaking of former rep. dick armey he said, "if there’s gonna be widespread national teabagging, you’re gonna NEED a dick army." @Tonal Crow:
Is it just me or could they have not picked a ‘gayer’ sounding name than 2M4M for a campaign that ‘protects’ marriage? If I read it really fast, I think "To Him, For Him". Or if I discount that the numerals are homonyms for ‘To’ and ‘For’, I get ‘2 Men, 4 Men’ which sounds like an invitation to a gay orgy event.
@Dreggas:
I was actually thinking of giving AoC a chance. I’m a pretty big gamer but have always avoided MMOs for various reasons, the biggest one being that I absolutely hate dealing with people acting like asses because of anonymity. Guess I better avoid your server then.
Woodrow "asim" Jarvis Hill
AoC is the game where the dev team got bagered by players into reinstanting big boobs. I saw more than one forum with plenty of "I will quit if you don’t make the boobs bigger again!" levels of comment. **headdesk**
Finding out the chat lines are like that isn’t even a slight surprise.
asiangrrlMN
I’m watching Countdown right now (online, I have no cable), and I laughed out loud at the Dick Armey line.

re the 26 percent and the crazification factor: As someone at the New Yorker (Hendrik Hertzberg, I think) said in the last few months, "Now we know what percentage of the people can be fooled all of the time."
