For reasons I can not explain, this version of this song has been going through my head since ten am this morning:
It is making my Saturday cleaning and other work difficult. Hopefully it is now stuck in your head. At least it isn’t the Taco version.

Super Duper!!

I’ve had the Traveling Wilbury’s Handle with Care stuck in my head today. I’ll stick with that thank you very much.

And now it’s in my head. I hate you.

Were you perhaps watching VH1’s "Greatest One Hit Wonders of the 80’s" last night? They had Taco’s version somewhere in the top 20, and I kept telling my kids how much better this version is.
DougJ
One of the greatest scenes in the history of cinema.

I have the monster cold from hell stuck in my head since thursday. This is making life itself difficult. OJ, chicken soup, drugs and naps with the kitties have provided minimal relief. Just hoping it’s gone by monday.
Montysano
Bob Marley on the turntable here; Calexico to follow, I think. 72 degrees, sunny, dogwoods in bloom. April in the Deep South is mighty fine.
Comrade Mary, Would-Be Minion Of Bad Horse
Just mentioning the Taco version was enough to set it off for me. Damn you, John Cole!
(Yes, I’m cranky. I’m just back from an appointment with the world’s most clueless dental hygienist. Some people simply should not be issued sharp instruments as part of their job.)
Laura W
Well sure, but do you love us enough to give us a Final Four thread by 6:07EST? That’s alls I want to know.
@John: If you say "Nice Knockers!" again I can link through to the photos of my cat playing with my bra. Seems to be lucky for me.
Krista
It is indeed a beautiful day. It was 18 Celsius outside today, nice and sunny, the birds are outside having a party at the bird feeder, my husband is doing an awesome job painting the nursery, and I’m almost done my housecleaning.

I’m not sure if the cat freaks here will enjoy a combat anime with cats killing jihadi dogs in Cat Shit One.
But, whatever.
John Cole
@DougJ: I don’t think I have actually ever mentioned this before on the blog (maybe this is just another one of my personal dirty secrets like the fact that I love the Cars), but I have seen every movie with Gene Wilder at least several times each, and in the cases of Stir Crazy, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, and the Producers, easily dozens of times each.
And how hot was Teri Garr!
DougJ
I always had a thing for her back in the day.
You know, I’ve never seen Stir Crazy. I should sometime.
R-Jud
@John Cole:
You’re among friends; I’ve seen the latter three tens of times myself. The Producers in particular never gets old.
When the sprog is way overtired her eyes start to lose focus. Sometimes she’s cross-eyed, sometimes her eyes roll back into her head in opposite directions. Mr. Jud watched this the other day and said, "Christ, you’ve given birth to Marty Feldman."
A girl can dream.

I don’t know what’s worse. The real Ann Coulter ads, or the ads for the comic strip featuring furry sex.

@DougJ:
1) Bodega Lurton Pinot Gris, Argentina, 2008, 10.99
EXCELLENT!
2) don Rodolfo Torrontes, Argentina, 2008
Almost a tad too floral and stone-fruity for me, but if well-chilled a really great picnic or hot afternoon aperitif. 10.99 I liked it a lot…just couldn’t drink it often.
3) Crane Lake Pinot Grigio, Calif, 2008 (be sure it’s the 08. 07 bleh.) 4.99! I was told they are discontinuing this, so will probably get a case. So good for the money and a really suitable "house wine" when you don’t want to suck up one of the special ones.
It’s been a very good wine discovering week here in Western NC.
DougJ
I really will do some wine blogging later today. Unfortunately, the wine I was really psyched to blog about was a bit disappointing when I had it the second time (it had been a revelation a few months ago when I first had it).
binzinerator
Oh you bastard. You had to say it didn’t you? Now the Taco version is stuck in my head.
May Funky Town, One Night in Bangkok, The Safety Dance and an extended version of the Macarena all play in an endless loop inside your skull.

This song by Sharon Jones has been bouncing around my hollows all morning. I dig it, so I can’t complain. But, I’d welcome pretty much anything to fill the space before the freecreditreportdotcom song or "gotta go, gotta go right now" does.

Because I have OCD tendencies, I had to click on the video. I hate you, too, now–which is too bad because we were getting on like gangbusters before.
I’m going to go watch/listen to some Marvin Gaye now, to cleanse my eyes and ears.

You forgot this one. I actually love this song. Everybody’s talkin’ bout…
Comrade Mary, Would-Be Minion Of Bad Horse
Ah — Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings are KICKass. That warm, classic soul sound kills me every time.
Andrew Bird played Toronto last night, but I wasn’t able to get a non-scalped ticket. This will have to do to tide me over, I guess.
Kirk Spencer
First, out of simple cruelty, a link. Out a sense of humanity, a warning – it’s the "at least" John warned you of, above.
Second, an objection. One night in Bangkok’s incessant play sets aside the fact it fits well in the musical for which it was written. I first purchased my copy of Chess as cassette, and had to replace them with CD when the opportunity came. Which means I actually like it, and it’s not part of my personal ‘horrible soundtrack of life.’
And I can still clear the whole cycle by remembering this. (Consider yourselves warned.)

If we’re going to do Schoolhouse Rock, then we get to cleanse our palettes with Blossom Dearie doing Figure Eight. (Bonus: Elliot Smith’s cover.)

@gbear: Not sure this will be of much comfort to you, but I’m currently undergoing an attack of shingles (Herpes zoster), from the top of my shoulder down to my hand. My hand is so blistered, I’m having to feed myself with my left hand. The good news is, I think I’m starting to lose some weight. If it wasn’t for the Hydrocodone the doc prescribed, I’d be ready for a date with a .38! But just to show you my hearts in the right place….I’ll trade you straight across for your head cold. Right now I can’t get, "Doctor My Eyes" out of my head!
wasabi gasp
@J. Michael Neal:
Rats ass! I must have successfully blocked that freaky commercial out.
A commercial that recently had me laughing my ass off is Master P-Nut.

@Dennis-SGMM: I was most excited when Joan A. came to the UCSB hall to perform. I was so into her first album — 1978-ish? (Hey! I’ll bet Iowa Housewife was there too.)
Saw Ronstadt a lot too — I was obsessed with Hasten Down the Wind. There is no difference between her vocal talents live vs. in the studio.
Save me, free me, from my heart this time…

@Kirk Spencer:
Dear Kirk,
Bite me.
Sincerely, asiangrrl.
Seriously, if I get that Lolly, lolly, lolly adverb song stuck in my head, I’m coming after you.
However, I do agree with you about One Night in Bangkok; it’s a good song. Plus, his brother is cute.
R-Jud
@gbear:
Curse you, that’s all I had to read and now it’s lodged in my brain. That song was the number 1 single in the US the day I was born– I can’t escape it.
asiangrrlMN
@2th&nayle:
OUCH! That sounds painful. Take it easy today. Relax as best as possible. My sympathies.
P.S. Just for you:

Maybe the weirdness will take your mind off you pain. Hope you feel better soon.
2th&nayle
@asiangrrlMN: Well, what a sweetheart you are. Thank you sooo much! I think I’m starting to feel better already.
Kirk Spencer
@asiangrrlMN: Sure – do you have a preference as to where I bite?
Hey, I warned you (evil grin) but which would you prefer, Taco or Lolly?
And per your suggestion for 2th&nayle – I’ve always liked that song, too.
Laura W
@2th&nayle: I know something that will lift your spirits.
asiangrrlMN
@Kirk Spencer:
(Thinking evil, unmentionable thoughts and muttering unmentionables under my breath). Anything but the Lolly song. Listening to that would drive me mad in two minutes flat.
2th&nayle, no problem. It’s the least I can do for someone in your condition!
guest omen
what’s the taco version?
tivo alert: juan cole scheduled for cspan 2 at the top of the hour.

@guest omen:
Check out Kirk Spencer’s first link at #24. Be very, very afraid.
2th&nayle
@Laura W: Ahh, you remembered! You’re a sweetie too. Nothing like a little Steely Dan and a slight narcotic buzz to help you forget your arms on fire. I should have whined earlier. I really am starting to feel better.
@asiangrrlMN: Your song selection was good too! Believe it or not, I don’t think I’d ever heard that song before. Thx again!
Svensker
@Dennis-SGMM:
Thanks for the Joan link. Listened to a bunch of her songs — just loved her back in the day, don’t know her new stuff too well. Saw her in L.A. in the 80s and she was so cute with her white sneakers and ‘fro. Then segued into Tracy Chapman. Smoke and ashes, baby.
asiangrrlMN
@2th&nayle:
Maybe you are too young? It was released in 1979. I do hope you feel better.
2th&nayle
@asiangrrlMN: Well, ahh, no! Whatever the reason I missed that particular tune, it wasn’t because I was too young. In 1979, I was in the USAF on my 2nd hitch. Guess I spent too much time listening to Steely Dan! BTW, I really am starting to feel a little better. This chit chat gives me something else to focus on. Thx!

That’s OK, I’ve got the lyrics to "Fell For A Pygmy" running around my head. That’s the parody I wrote to the Beatles "Eleanor Rigby" some months back. No particular reason – we’re just closing our suppport lines for the evening and I’m worn out and something has to fill the space between my ears.
"Young Frankenstein" was a great, great movie. I remember going to see it with my ex-Sister-in-Law, of all people. Now at the time she was heavily into being a "Christian" and had more than a little bit of a disapproving blue-nose scold in her. In fact it was really strange that we went to that movie together, because we didn’t really get along all that well at the time…my brother had been planning to take her and got called in to work at the last minute, she still wanted to go, so I said I’d take her.
We ended up laughing our asses off through the whole thing and reaching a reasonable stage of detente on our other issues as a result.
The Very Reverend Battleaxe of Knowledge
The earworm I’ve been stuck with for the last couple of days is actually my favorite song from my favorite album ("Fruit" is singular: the poster is wrong) by my favorite band. Yes I’m old.
Strong as Samson
It still seems topical, if not even more so.

That is the greatest thing on Earth. I love that they all had heads of lettuce at the ready. Or whatever that stuff is.
