Friend said I should start watching it. Are any of you fans? Is it worth getting the first season?
*** Update ***
Is it just me, or does this story sound like another one of those legends that get ginned up every transition? How long before we hear that they also removed all the o’s from the keyboards, but that Bush screwed up and took off the zero’s?
BTW- Lost interest in Damages since I have not seen season one, but the Savages is on HBO, and it is a great flick.

Hard to say. Good cast, decent acting, plot…way too Joe Eszterhasish (yes, it’s a word, damnit).
Glenn Close can chew up vast tracts of scenery, so it could be worth it for that alone.
Wini
I am a fan and I recommend giving the first season a whirl.

Watching Patrick Swayze and his wife on Barbara Walters, trying not to cry. *bites fist*
Punchy
Had no idea Walters enjoyed 3-ways.

The girlfriend has added this to the very limited list of programs we DVR. Her taste, with the possible exception of picking me ;) , is impeccable.

yes worth it. good show for dvd.

I just brought Eddie home from the hospital, minus one leg. He made a beeline for under the bed. He can’t move around gracefully yet, be he can definitely get there in a hurry with proper motivation. I put the over/under at him coming out when I’m around at about 48 hours. How I get the pain medication in him I’m not sure yet.

@Punchy: Ugh. You heartless bastard. The love, it will not go with you.

Nope. What’s it about? I am not much of a TV guy unless it is news or comedy.
OT: I have been reading at Wonkette about the blogging war between them and "Riverchucky’s Conflatulence" over the Blogging Awards contest. Needless to say, the Wonkettes are kicking PUMA ass and not bothering to take names. Our blog buddy "GoatBoy" (myiq2xu) decided to join in the fun and games at Wonkette but it seems that some of his earlier posts have disappeared. I have noticed since then that GoatBoy’s posts have taken a slight turn:
Now we know the real reason he has been hanging with the cougar crowd. His solution doesn’t sound any different from his usual MO though. Oh, I get it! He’s going to start charging a nickel per knob!
GoatBoy is on the road to recovery. He’s still doing what he likes to do but with his newly discovered self-esteem he now has the ability to make a profit at the same time. It just doesn’t get any better than that!
You go GoatBoy!
gnomedad
I like it! When it pops up, we’ll all know where it started.

@J. Michael Neal – I’m so sorry that Eddie lost his leg. It’s just heartbreaking to me for any animal to have to go through anything like that; more so for Eddie, since he has already been through so much. Hopefully he will adjust well to life short one leg and come out from under the bed soon. Try grinding the pain pills up and put them in his food – he’ll get hungry at some point.

As for Damages – Never heard of it.
As for the Howard/Bush/Obama housing dilemna – Trivia.
But it will get the Beltway Heathers all worked up, no doubt.
demimondian
@bayville: Very unlikely. The Beltway Heathers are too busy trying to figure out what to hate Obama about.
Studly Pantload
I was able to recently catch a few Damages reruns, so I think I’ll be able to follow what’s going on with tonight’s opener. The series seems to demand some patience, but it’s very twisted/twisty stuff. I’ve concluded they titled it Damages only because they couldn’t get away with The Ratfuckers.
Mr Neal: Condolences on your loved one losing a leg. Mrs Pantload and I have four kittehs, all special needs, so I can sympathize. Never underestimate what your love means to them, though, even when the going gets tough.

@Just Some Fuckhead: Yeah, pancreatic cancer is the worst possible diagnosis. Only person I’ve heard of recently who beat it is Steve Jobs but he had the least aggressive kind.

John Cole:
Bittorrent is your friend. So is Hulu.
Edited to add: Oops. Scratch Hulu. I thought they had full eps, but they don’t. Hulu does have a two-part 18 minute recap of S1, if you’re still interested. It sounds like you’re not, though.

Just Some Fuckhead
@iluvsummr: My wife recently had a co-worker die within days of diagnosis. The worst part of it is he was losing weight like mad and he has a family history of pancreatic cancer and they were taking him back and forth to Duke Medical Center and they still couldn’t find it. Then when they did, he only had a few days left.

That the White House choose to prioritize the former prime minister of Australia over the incoming President of the United States emphasizes Bush’s sense of loyalty.
Its called hospitality.

FWIW, I thought Damages sucked ass.
skippy
i sure couldn’t get into damages, even tho i lurv every actor involved.
personally i suggest renting the venture brothers seasons one and two.

Or watch it for free on Adult Swim. Great show though, funny as hell to boot. My favorite characters are Brock Sampson (of course), Dr. Orpheus and Dr. Henry Killinger.
Molotov Cocktease is a great character too. The ‘tension’ between her and Brock is a riot.

If it can be ground up (or removed from its gel capsule) it can be mixed into something that’s *very* tasty. Our default mixer is the chicken slurry sold in little glass jars from the baby-food aisle, but others report good results with cod liver capsules, minced oil-pack tuna, liver pate, small-curd cottage cheese, and sardines in tomato sauce. (I don’t understand it either, but some cats do love tomato sauce.) Basically, whatever your guy finds particularly enticing, and if it has a good strong smell/taste to disguise the ‘contaminant’, all the better. Of course some cats find any food more desirable if the other cats in the household are yowling through the door about the unfairness of it all, but it doesn’t sound like Eddy is that kinda guy…

Re: Damages, rent the first season, just do it…
D-Chance.
Well, Cole, it looks like Ripley from the Whiskey Fire website just tore you a new one:
Leave it to the nutless wonders of PJTV to glom onto some pseudo-celebrity du jour (JtP) whose claim to fame is being schooled on the finer points of tax policy, on video, by Presidential candidate, Barack Obama. (he’s black, by the way – did you know that?) The people who pay John Cole good money to try and convince you and me that Glenn Reynolds or Hugh Hewitt or whoever the hell it was is going to be the "end of broadcast/cable news" or some such self-aggrandizing bullshit.
Incertus
It has that potential, but considering the general pettiness of the Bush administration–like in starting the "W" story in the first place, all those years ago–it certainly isn’t beneath them to pull some shit like that, and the wingnut crowd would love them forever for it.
Conservatively Liberal
It’s a swing and a miss!
Not a bad rant but has he been reading Cole lately? Maybe he is going for the ‘guilt by association’ with PJ via BJ? If that is the case, who cares? PJ paying John to tear into the stupidity of the right?
Win-Win in my book.
John Cole
Oh Noes! Someone said something mean over the internets?
Will I recover?
dmsilev
@John Cole:
No. You are now doomed to an endless cycle of misery and self-doubt.
Hope this helps.

Watched Damages at first, they lost me when somebody cut the dog’s throat. Starting watching Dexter instead. Now there’s a show I can get behind. Seeing POS humans get what they have coming is much more palatable.

Damages is not very good. Some good acting. Ridiculous plot. Rose Byrne, the Australian lead I’ve actually liked for a few years, is miscast.
TV shows to marathon if you haven’t:
Friday Night Lights
Veronica Mars
MI:5 (British spy show aka Spooks)
Shameless

I didn’t watch "Damages" last night since I went out, but I will watch it later today. Some people say parts are unrealistic or made up on the spot, but whatever the case, I really enjoyed last season. The first season is out on DVD, so if you can, try renting it through a video store or Netflix. FX repeats a lot of the shows, and it will probably be repeated either on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday night, or maybe a combination of those nights, for the duration of its second season. You can always play catch up if you can’t cram in all of the episodes before next Tuesday.

@J. Michael Neal:
Pill pockets are gobbled down by my dog Tasha and the pills just disappear. She loves them as plain treats. She will even take one from the vet when she is mad at her for giving her a rabies shot!
(p.s. they make them for cats too.)

WATCH DAMAGES JUST DO IT!
Nikki
Yup.
But I did like his comparison of Sam the Joe the Plumber to Family Guy’s Ollie Williams.

Damages was on our must see list last season. However, after the finale of Season 1, I thought that the entire flash back format was completely unnecessary and actually lessened the drama. Had they just started from Rose Byrne’s character getting hired by Glenn Close and going from there the story would have been much more enjoyable and suspenseful. The flashback format added an unnecessary layer that took away from the final product. It was like a weak copy of Lost in that respect.
When we sat down to watch the Season 2 premiere last night, I told the wife that if the show started off with another flashback device, I would strongly consider not watching the rest of the season. What happens? The first scene has Rose Byrne talking with some unknown person and then brandishing a gun. The next shot is "6 months earlier," then cuts to a scene with Glenn Close’s character appearing on Live with Regis and Kelly setting out four minutes of excurciating exposition. I almost threw the remote through the TV. I think the show will be much weaker this year with the absence of the actors who played the fiance and the lawyer for Ted Danson’s character. These two guys made the show for me last year.
reality-based
No, this "Evils of the previous administration" stuff is important, for this reason.
Think back to 2000 transfer of power. A LOT of people – well, over half the country, anyway – are furious about the Supreme Court-engineered Coup d’Etat that has just taken place, allowing the Texas Oil COmpany Stooge to steal the White House and eagerly began trashing the country and looting it blind.
Oh, gee – what to do with all this anger? How can we get the American Press to stop talking about us stealing the election?
Then Karen Hughes and Ari Fleischer have A BRILLIANT IDEA – Let’s get the press talking about how evil the Democrats are, instead.
So They MAKE UP A STORY about how the outgoing administration trashed the white house, and they spread it around to all the idiot press –
who obligingly go on Cable, for hours and hours
and talk about the horrible things the Democrats did on their way out of town.. Andrea Mitchell, I remember, ranted about this for hours and hours. A furious Bob Barr demanded that the GSA investigate and issue a REPORT on the horrible things the outgoing Dems had done.
SO the GSA did and found out – ta-da – that there was no damage. None. Na-da.
And did we hear any apologies or explanations from all the media that had hyped this story? Did Ms. Mitchell ever even MENTION the fact that she had spent hour pushing the BuchCo lies over the TV? Of course not.
And Ari Fleischer and Karen Hughes learned that they could say any damn thing they wanted, lie to their hearts content – and our teenage press corp would NEVER call them on it.
And Bush settled in comfortably, and the serious looting began.
anybody interested in ancient history, just google.
The difference in the Blair Houue story is that:
1. It’s true, and
2. It’s not being pushed by Obama – it was Margaret Carlson who cared enough to actually investigate who was staying there.
Blogging in the Wind
Well actually Margaret Carlson just said she suspected that’s what happened. She never cited any person or verifiable source. Also consider Margaret Carlson in the first place– a premier Village Gossiper.
You correct, John, it smells like the "W keys removed!" incident all over again.
I think we should all take the Obama example and ignore a lot of these silly, unimportant stories. The one thing I really love about Obama is he doesn’t seem to play those games. The man has an uncanny gift of knowing what is and what is not important.

Season one of Damages is fun in a Betty Davis and Joan Crawford chewing up the scenery in a mid 60s B movie sort of way.
Go in with those expectations rather than looking for BSG, West Wing, The Wire, Deadwood, etc typical extended storyline cable series and it is great.
Amanda
Whoever mentioned "Veronica Mars" — agreed. One of the best shows ever, in my very biased opinion. Absolutely loved Enrico Colantoni as her quirky dad. And the show had some of the best pop culture references and soundtrack music ever.
