Make it 3-0.
4:25 pm- I guess knocking your opponent out is one way to force a fumble.
5:50 pm- Steelers are looking pretty damned flat, and I see WVU is not the only team out there that refuses to tackle.
7:06 pm- I have not seen our o-line look this bad since the days of Leon “Swing Door” Searcy, when he would stand at the line of scrimmage and wave the defense through like a matador. My brother even called him Le Leon.

The world’s gone mad, I tell ya. The Dolphins just stomped a mudhole in the Patriots’ asses. Go Saints!

What are these names of which you speak?
Punchy
I hope Paulson didnt put that 700 Billion on the freakin Pats today. Or the Bills. Talk about “sure things” gone bad.
Seriously, 38-13 AT HOME AGAINST THE WORST TEAM IN THE NFL?
Wow.
ninerdave
Rough loss for the Raiders.
Ben Roethlisberger is the fantasy definition of mediocre. Was my first QB pick this year. Lame.
ninerdave
Oh yeah GO NINERS!
Jim
Big effin’ deal, the Bills are 3-0 too and in sole possession of first place in the AFL East. Now THAT’S big news.
The Grand Panjandrum
Big Ben will get sacked so many times today they’ll carry him out with the groceries.

Skins had a good game.
Anyone know where I can catch the Steeler’s game on internet streaming radio for free?

For the most part, I like Fox’s coverage of the NFL over CBS or NBC. However, the stupid sound effects they use anytime something appears on the screen makes me want to punch a Republican.

My Bears trying to lose this fucking game. Fuckin christ.
Chiefs……havent won in almost a calander year. Yikes.

Super Stevie Slaton had himself a big day. Losing effort, but big day.

I’m not too optimistic this week after what they did last week.

I’m not normally -OH CRAP! Westbrook is limping off the field. Life is Hell for Eagles fans. Oh, huge first down, I feel a bit better.
zzyzx
I chose the Bills in my suicide pool this week and I was pretty terrified until the end. Seahawks are actually looking like a competent team; could we play the Rams every week?
Incertus
I’m not too optimistic seeing as they’re down 21-3 in the beginning of the second quarter. But if I were optimistic, I wouldn’t be a Saints fan.
Kathy
As I was saying, I don’t normally follow the Bronco’s but it is nice seeing a Vanderbilt (my alma mater) quarterback doing so well.
Westbrook out for the game, Crap, Crap, Crap.

Black is white. Up is down. Good is bad. Right is left. And all other things Orwellian in south Florida. At least for today. On another score card, Houses: McCain 7, Obama 1. Cars: McCain…well, it’s right here: http://www.newsweek.com/id/160091

This looks like as good a thread as any to put this in, so here I go. Earlier this morning, I wrote to Dean Baker about the transaction tax idea. One of the questions/comments I wrote went as follows:
2. I’m not sure of my opinion on the bail outs just yet. I’m not an expert on this stuff by any stretch, and after spending about ten hours away from the computer yesterday and coming home to see a proposed $700 billion bail out, it seems like things are changing so quickly that I’ll never catch up. (I’m trying, however.) At the very least, I’m open to the idea that the problem became so severe that it might–MIGHT–justify some sort of bail out. However, it’s going to cost us, so perhaps a transaction tax, at the levels you suggest raising what you say it could raise, might be a good idea if for no other reason than it might force the people who are involved in these transactions to pay for the government covering their asses
His response?
Yes.
As if the fact that he got back to me a mere few hours later, I now know it’s not an economically perverse idea to support the transaction tax for that reason.
He also said that Robert Rubin and people like him were designing the economic policies for the Democrats, so that’s the reason a policy like this, which there’s really no good argument against, wouldn’t be enacted. I realize Obama is more of a center-left guy than a “leftist”,” but I hope that somehow, this idea gets pitched to him. It’s good on so many levels.

I don’t think either QB will survive this game.

Westbrook out? My fantasy fucked. Worthlessberger having a worthless game? Not surprised.

I share your pain Punchy, although I was smart and start O’Sullivan this week.
Got O’Sullivan in the 3rd to last round, lucky? smart? you decide.

“I see WVU is not the only team out there that refuses to tackle.”
You should try catching a UCLA game this season before Neuheisel says “fuck it” and forfeits the rest of the schedule.

A lot of the good teams have sucked azz today: Patriots, Giants, Pittsburgh… I’m thinking the market has all their highly-payed stars in a jittery way.

I’m not sure if the Steelers’ offensive line knew it was okay to, you know, step in front of the blitzers, or push them, in something. Maybe someone told them that the rules had been changed to “one Mississippi” for this game.

Ok, it’s official. I dont get it.

No. Leave our sports threads alone. Go Gators! Go Saints (with 1:55 left in the game and the ball in the Broncos’ hands, ahead 34-32, it doesn’t look good)! Go Saints!

The NY Giants 2 kickers are collectively 86 years old: 42 year old P Jeff Feagles, 44 year old K John Carney.
Just in case you weren’t interested.

This is off topic but worth mentioning: Obama has released a fairly sensible statement about requirements for an acceptable bailout, and Pelosi is making similar noises, while Bush and the House Republican leadership are insisting on a blank check (as I understand the bill, there’s nothing stopping Paulson from pocketing the $700 billion and retiring), and McCain is keeping mum.
Again, I apologize for the threadjack, and I know Pelosi is likely to cave, but at least Obama seems to be aware – where’s McCain?
P.S. I also apologize for the lack of links, a consequence of commenting by phone; no cut-and-paste. Start at TPM and Brad Delong.

Is there a football team more vile than the Dallas Cowboys?
I don’t think so.

As a UCLA Alumnus/Fan, I’d like to thank the Volunteers on behalf of all Bruin Fans for assuring at least 1 win this year; apparently, having no Quarterback (the first 2 strings are done for the season) makes it hard to win in football. Who knew? But for the UT kicker hooking one, we had a real chance of going Zero for the year (wins, not offensive touchdowns).
And for the Dawgs in the house, I think Rick is on a very, VERY tight leash in Westwood.
Kevin
UCLA haven’t played Stanford yet.

Wooooooo, IGGLES! That was a squeaker. I hope Westbrook isn’t seriously injured. We were eating dinner with my parents after halftime, so we missed the last half. I nearly freaked when I heard Donovan left the game, but it sounded not too terribly serious. And they had just spent 10 minutes talking about how GREAT McNabb looked and how great it is to have him healthy again. So the keyword here is SHUT THE HELL UP about McNabb’s health!
