I use(d) to check his page with updates on his battle somewhat infrequently, had a look on Thursday and got a bit worried since there hadn’t been an update for almost a month, sadly there was another update later that day.
RIP Randy Pausch.

My mother gave me his book one day and said “Here. You need to read this.” I gave her that look that say ‘You’ve got to be kidding me’, but I took the book, because hey, it’s my mother.
He was certainly an interesting fellow.

I met Randy back when he was a professor at Virginia. I’m surprised but happy that he had an impact beyond the bounds of his discipline (our research areas overlap a bit). RIP.

Michael, thanks for the link.
RIP Randy, you certainly put things in perspective.

My mother gave me the book as well. Worth reading, even if you’ve seen the lecture.
RIP.

Yes, RIP, and sympathy to his family.
But this ABC milking exploitation of these obvious comfort platitudes rankles.
ABC’s ad today about all the programs they’re doing on this LITERALLY puts a pretty a bow on it all.
THAT’s the problem. Narcotizing, misleading platitudes. Blech.

I saw his youtube last lecture last year. The man was a regular guy–smart, but regular.
I feel bad for his kids, who don’t get to have this great guy in their lives. Yeah, he left them platitudes in a sense, but when all you have to give your kids for the rest of their lives are well-intentioned words, you want to make them good ones, kind ones, inspiring ones. By some folks’ definition, platitudes. I think he left more than just platitudes to his kids–he left them his love.
And if you find that way too sweet for your discerning tastes, well, change the channel goofball. I’m sure there is something happening somewhere with all the seamy underbelly you need to feed your black, cynical, misery loving little heart.

Wow. *speechless*
