Just heard a song called Shut Your Eyes by these guys, and there was something about it that was really pleasing.
Any of you heard anything else by these guys? Not my normal type of music, but I wanted some input before I buy a disc. Are they a one-hit wonder?
*** Update ***
Yeah, I am a moron. Should have checked youtube.
*** Update #2 ***
And I don’t like anything else they have done. Just saved myself fifteen bucks.

Somehow I know there’s a link there just waiting to break out and be active

A song I like by them is “You Could be Happy”. But I must admit I haven’t heard any others. Its not my usual music either but I heard that song on a television show and had to have it.
Scotty
See if they have any other songs up on youtube. I try to listen to a whole album on youtube before buying one anymore.
JasonF
Their big hit is a song called Chasing Cars. If you like OPen Your Eyes, you’ll probably like Chasing Cars.
JasonF
And to correct what I just said, I thought you were talking about “Open Your Eyes,” not “Shut Your Eyes” (apparently, I fail reading comprehension today). So I’ll amend my earlier comment by saying that “Shut Your Eyes” is a less characteristic Snow Patrol song, and that most of their stuff is a lot more whiny.
Harley
It’s Grey’s Anatomy music — they ended a season with Chasing Cars — and that’s not an entirely bad thing. Gary Lightbody sometimes records under another name, The Reindeer Section, which is pretty much more of the same.
Cain
Pfft. You should be creating an account on last.fm and get yourself lots of new music. (and add me as your friend so I can “analyze” your music) heh.

I really like the songs “Wow” and “Chocolate” by Snow Patrol. Don’t give up on this group yet, check theses songs out!

Check out this mashup – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7O3Z00jn47M
Snow Patrol vs The Police – Interesting how the songs blend so well.

Sorry for the error in my previous comment; I meant “. . . these songs . . .”

This reminds me of the beer thread where a bunch of people were talking about how great Blue Moon is.
Flying Rodent
Not that it’s of much interest to anyone, but I once had to make a sharp exit from the singer’s flat in Dundee after a very drunk friend of mine was sick all over his bathroom.
Ah, nostalgia.
Harley
Well, given that this is a music thread, here’s a recommendation. Bon Iver’s ‘For Emma, Forever Ago’ is one of the best debuts I’ve heard in a very long time. Great story (guy’s band breaks up, he holes up in dad’s cabin thru a long, cold winter and makes music), and some truly great music.
Check it out.

If you all really want to help me out, I could use some good trance for BG’s and arena.
Quackers
Once this one gets in your head it has real staying power. Beautiful vocals and harmonies.
JL
Great song, Thanks. I have all three seasons of Grey’s Anatomy songs which tend to be indie music. A few of the artists I actually bought their cd’s. I do find that it introduces you to music that is not just the top 10 or 40.
andy
Agreed with Cain, Last.fm (that link is to my profile) is a joyous and wondrous thing when you have it paired up with iTunes and your iPod.
I’ve found a ton of music I’d (most likely) never have found without it, some of which is actually good (and some of which is, well, not).
JL
One of the groups from Grey’s anatomy that I like is Koop. It’s a very interesting Swedish group but with a great female Japenese vocalist. It’s a bouncy type of jazz if that makes sense. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akE4BnH5kdA. Now another Grey’s artist is Patrick Watson but he tends to be more of a downer.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YA2h9PrIUxs Hopefully these links work because I know how impatient you are with us copy and paste types.

I liked three cuts off of Final Straw, esp. “Chocolate” and “Spitting Games.” “Hands Open” off Eyes Open was ok, if for nothing else than for the shoutout to Sufjan Stevens. But the rest of it (and yes, that includes the gawd awful “Chasing Cars”)…just never hit me.

What’s wrong with Blue Moon..
It’s better than looking at McCain’s face and his fake smile. Actually Bud Lite is better than that.

This isn’t trance, just an Acid Test (by Emma Pollock, formerly of The Delgados). The chorus and the guitar figure are guaranteed hooks.
Hmmm — and how about more non-trance, but certainly something hypnotic: Boy with a Coin by Iron and Wine.

Fifteen bucks? It’s 6$ in Amazon’s mark-down bin. Never pay retail!

Had not heard of Snow Patrol. Very good music. And as long as it’s Indie Music Tuesday night thread, hear is a selection from Winterpills – light divides

Check out Pandora. It’s about as good as it gets for internet radio.
Tom in Texas
Try Explosions in the Sky John. While not exactly trance, it’s phenomenal mood music, and widely available on youtube.
The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place is an unbelievable album.
jake
I had something by SP on my iPod but for the life of me I can’t remember the title.
Meh, what else can you buy for 99 cents these days?
p.s. Pandora.com.

Thievery Corporation.
Bill Laswell & Jah Wobble “Radioaxiom” is freaking AWESOME!!!

Bill Laswell & Jah Wobble “Radioaxiom” is great. Check out the songs “Alsema Dub” and “6th Chamber” on iTunes .

Fuck you people and your pandora, it’s not as good as last.fm + a way to tell what live bands are coming into town that you might like and all that.
That said if you want trance, I think there are some good euro streaming music like Digitall Imported.

Geeks will know who Hans Reiser is. I don’t know how widely the news that he murdered his wife was reported outside of the Bay Area…with those caveats:

YouTube is great for finding music. Sometimes you can get song, lyrics, video. It’s great.
What I don’t understand is the comments. They’re always way too new. I usually look for older singers. (although I’ve listened to Feist who isn’t that old) I just found Laura Nyro (her version of Stoned Soul Picnic is the best) Sure enough, comments were like from yesterday. I don’t get it.

Anybody listen to Yeasayer? From All Hours Cymbals here, here and here.
Bob In Pacifica
I got a couple of Snow Patrol’s CDs on the advice of my college-age daughter. I was pretty unimpressed. They’re sitting in my CD collection. Maybe I’ll rediscover them in ten years. Maybe not. Probably not.
I’ve been filling out my collection with used and cutout CDs to replace old lps that have disappeared from my collection over the years: Earth, Wind and Fire, “Green-Eyed Lady” by Sugarloaf, the Searchers, Waits’ “The Heart of Saturday Night,” Dick Dale. I keep hoping for something new to thrill me.
Dan
I, too, have returned to buying CDs. Besides used and cutouts, I have been buying new through Amazon and even BMGmusic.com (a record club!).
I can pick up new releases, remasters and whatever other disks I want to fill in my collection. If you hit the right sale through BMG you can get CDs for about $7.00 each, including shipping. Amazon’s CD prices are typically around $10 with free shipping if you spend more than $25 (and free 2-day shipping if you join Amazon Prime).
So for a disk with 15 songs, for $5 less than the downloads, I get CD quality, an actual CD that I can rip to mp3 (or whatever), liner notes, artwork, lyrics, etc. And a music collection that you can flip through, hold in your hand. And it looks like a music collection. Not a hard drive.
libarbarian
Yeah, http://www.di.fm is good.

Everything mentioned thus far is for tossers. If you want a lot of music, you should download Soulseek. It’s not the fastest P2P application, but you can find some wonderfully obscure songs (or movies, e-books, Zap Comix, psychedelic posters, whatever you’re looking for) amongst the members. Basically, what I do is search for something I want, and then I browse the collection of whoever has it, and download any albums that I don’t already have. And then I started doing the same to anyone who downloads from me, or messages me, or…
Yeah, so I downloaded 150 gigs of music in the past month…
Mary
Rusty, I LOVE Yeasayer. This is a live version of 2080 from Jools Holland’s show that features their Amish David Byrne singer in all his unrestrained glory.
cleek
all of my CD shelves are full, and i have no space in which to put any others. luckily, i use them very infrequently because they’re all ripped to MP3. so i keep the shelves in a closet.
on the other hand, for less than it would cost to buy another CD shelf, i can buy 1TB of disk space, and i can store another three hundred thousand songs on it. and there are no non-bio-degradable CD cases to worry about.
i’ve come to hate having to buy physical CDs.

Hope this isn’t dead-threaded yet. If you’re looking for trance, I’d say look at Tranceglobal Underground. I especially like Boss Tabla.

People still buy whole CDs? How… quaint.
I get a lot of joy out of listening to the themed music channels that come with the teevee. I discover artists, and I am reminded of artists I know.
