Ouch:
Robert Greenwald takes McCain to task for a few of his about faces. Maybe Hillary is staying in to take McCain’s spot when he is forced to drop out?
speaking for me only. I am not saying this to be snarky, but merely to point out that I am not John. Well, actually the last sentence is supposed to be snarky, but not the italicized part.

Hi, Not-John.
Bill Kristol’s at it again. The stupid, it burns!
I can’t figure out which is the most stupendous example of self-delusional wingnuttiness: promoting the WV primary as as the reason why Obama is in trouble in the fall; or the ranting on the CA gay marriage decision while accusing Obama just a couple of paragraphs later of trying to “divert voters” from the really important topics like gas prices or health care.

If you’re not John, why repost his posts?

Well, it’s O/T and hasn’t been discussed here lately, but it has been before: the mortgage/credit crunch/crisis. I have typically run screaming from these discussions as I feel really underequipped, brainwise, for understanding global economics. Anyway, last night I listened to the This American Life podcast from last week, I guess it would be dated 5/11 or so. It was a really interesting look at this phenomenon, from a Veteran homeowner in over his head all the way up to the Global Pool of Money, and very layperson-friendly. What I’m trying to say is that I recommend it.
In other complicated things I’m trying to understand, maybe someone can point me towards something explaining the corn/ethanol/grain/global food crisis interrelationship. I was talking about this with my husband, who was saying, wait, I thought we produced so much corn it was problematic, it was rotting in silos, etc. (see Michael Pollan, etc.) and that the price was completely arbitrarily fixed by the U.S. Gov’t anyway, why is it that now normal supply & demand rules are supposedly applying to corn and driving up the price. I thought it was a good question.
And thirdly, Sadly, No has convinced me to give $ to Haiti this month. They are, literally, eating these caked things of baked dirt. I have gone about 80% vegetarian over the past few months, and it really has let me spend less on food.
John D.
Well, given that Hillary lost the DC primary by 51 points, the Dem nominee this year will have lost a primary by at least 41 no matter which of them win.
Kristol is simply retarded.

I got some snippets of what could pass for the 1856 Know Nothing Party Platform in honor of Kathleen Parker.

I think Hillary Clinton would make an awesome substitute for John McCain. They’re both 100% genuine Commander-in-Chief candidates, which is a crucial qualification considering the war in Iraq and all the tough decisions that need to be made going forward.

I had no idea Burger King had expanded into the Carribean.

Heh. Bingo. You notice we’re not hearing any more of the “Senators never win presidential elections” stuff lately, either. I wonder why?
rachel
And… what’s the connection here? You’ll spend even less if you eat dirt, too?
(But srsly, the Haitians have it really bad now.)
Jen
Well, undoubtedly eating dirt would enable me to spend even less…
No, the point is primarily that I have a tight budget. After years of not budgeting well and getting into debt, I now track my expenses fairly meticulously and have noticed that even with rising food prices, I have been able to spend less on food by hardly ever buying meat. (I have also been trying to spend less on food in other ways, so it’s not exactly a double-blind study.) I am determined to not live beyond my means any more, and since I didn’t really live high on the hog to begin with, I pay more attention to the little things. I am on track to end the month in the black and be able to give some to charity, that’s all.

I can’t agree with this statement, as it implies that he ever stopped being a jackass.

Obama won the Virgin Islands by over 80%. Idaho by over 60%. HI by over 50%. Alaska by 50%, Kansas by 48%, etc..
Zifnab
And don’t forget the rather awesome 75/25 Obama win in Hawaii. Frankly, if I’ve got to choose between the wisdom of Appalachia and the preference of a bunch of surfer dudes, I’m siding with the guys who have a nicer tan. Just say’n.

Helpful tip–don’t ask a person to dance on a table with booze and fire. Not even if you’re the fire department.

A lot of the global food crisis is caused by the response. That is, as prices rose slightly govts moved to ban export, and people moved to horde food further tightening the supply.
Although I suspect the instability in Zimbabwe also plays a role, as that nation used to be an exporter of food for African nations and now they can barely feed themselves.

Hey, it’s their job to write this blog, not to read it.

Jen:
Nobody can actually explain the relationship between food prices, ethanol, and our country’s wacko corn policies. Why? Because the effects are being masked by the massive flow of speculative capital washing through the world commodities market. Last year, wheat (not used for ethanol, BTW) went from $6 a bushel to over $15. Now it’s back to $7. Why? Some good reasons, but the real reason was speculation by big money traders and hedge funds. Similar things are happening with all foodstuffs, and oil too. Capital that drove the housing bubble is getting out, and looking for new areas of return.
And do you suppose that the Bush administration has addressed the massive effects of hedge trading funds that are driving this market wackiness? (Rhetorical question, obviously. You already know the answer.)

Note the pony on the river. Which BJ reader is Lukas Ketnar?

That looks more like Usher than Obama, no?

For future reference, when I ask other posters to send me a picture? This is the type of picture I am looking for.
Thanks.

Can someone please have Hamas officials in Egypt for Israel truce talks covered with sand and shoved up McCain’s ass?
Tax Analyst
Love it!
The only thing missing is a pierced-nipple and the ring that would go with it.
Oh, and maybe one of those for the pony, too.

I think someone needs to photo-shop McCain’s head onto “Ah-nuld’s” body.
It would look like a pea nesting up there on top of the Guvernator’s massive man-frame.

Thank god for the internet, and kiss up to sweet jesus that these arrogant types can’t be bothered to use teh google. Can you imagine a more appropriate metaphor?

I didn’t mention thozse to forestall the whole “It’s a caucus” thing. DC has an honest-to-goodness primary, Hillary lost by 51, so we’re comparing apples-to-apples.

Long as she’s not race-baiting, she can say that all she wants. It is accurate, after all, if a bit disingenuous about her actual chances at winning.

that’s fucking brilliant!
and, what the hell is up with their non-stop kvetching over Donna Brazile ? you can’t read a pro-Hillary blog anywhere without endless references to her (half of them calling her a “race-pimping” lesbian, of course).

Tax Analyst, which arnold?

EEW! Well, the one on the right would probably be more accurate to McCain’s state, but the one on the left would be more amusing…at least I think.
The one on the right is seriously scary. Reminds me of “The Picture of Dorian Gray”.
Updated to “The Photo of Governor Ah-nuld”, maybe.

Though an embarrassment for us in Portland during the week it could be seen all over town.
Did the artist get his cousin to model for it? It doesn’t look anything like Obama.

Are you sure that isn’t Martin Lawrence? Face too wide, too short, and not sharply featured enough.
It actually reminds me of the Kennedy portraits of my youth.
