…and if you like decent radio where the hosts don’t scream at you and tell you you’re stupid if you’re a Democrat / Republican, please give to WABE, Atlanta’s Public radio station. It’s a totally awesome listening experience, and I gave a buck a day – $365. I’ve been doing the same thing for 3 years (I listened for free for 4 years.) Am I allowed to solicit funds here for anyone but Obama? Hmmmm…
I guess this can be an open thread!

No.

Ok, but you really are stupid if you’re a Democrat Republican.
Just sayin’

Isn’t 2008 a Leap year?
Don’t you owe them another buck this year?
Chris
Or maybe you’re siamese twins? Or multiple personality disorder? Sheesh, Mr. Insensitive over here.
But for serious, I’d totally get behind a setup like The Atlantic only each blog is some guy’s split personality. That would be a nice improvement.

Well, I suggest John take Solders’ Angels off any list of charities he’s thinking about fundraising for.
I just got a rolled-up flag and fundraising letter from SA founder Patti Patton-Baden, with four pages of absolute garbage about the need to support her group against those “who want America to lose,” who “rejoice on Internet message boards with every American death,” and yes, “who – quite literally- hate our troops.”
Patti insists “there’s not a week that goes by that I am not attacked in some way for wanting to love and support our troops overseas.”
If I can find a copy online, I’ll post it here. I’m guessing everyone else who contributed to SA’s Project Valour-It last November is getting the same letter.
I’m really sorry to see this woman politicize an otherwise worthwhile cause this way. I guess they learned nothing from the whole Michelle Malkin fundraising “challenge” mess last fall.
This member of a military family who happens to oppose this war will never give another cent to Patti’s group. Instead, I’ll continue to support the many other worthwhile military and veteran charities (Fischer House, Homes for Heroes, Any Soldier, VVA, etc.) that don’t politicize their efforts.

Solders’ Angels = Soldiers’ Angels
Patti Patton-Baden = Patti Patton-Bader
Project Valour-It = Project Valour-IT
Sorry.

re public TV, is anybody watching the aircraft carrier doc?
i have seen a bit of each of the first 4 episodes.
i wonder what Mr. Cole thinks…
i can’t watch for long because some of the sailors are very immature and silly. it really does appear to be one big high-school (as several folks say). it’s hard to see this as conveying a good impression of the “troops” (if one can call sailors “troops”). i’m glad that some kids get to escape their dead end hometowns/family pathologies but then there’s all the slackers who seem permanently pissed off. lots of whining, but i’m sure that’s SOP.

I’ve been watching it. Think it’s pretty interesting so far.

Public radio and television are one of the few media venues where reporting stories honestly and at some depth is still the norm. I give to my local public radio every year and listen daily. PBS news and information is also head and shoulders above the rest. Reasoned and insightful, radio and TV seem like the last bastion of sane news reporting today. I wonder how long they’ll last…

They’ll last as long as we keep giving them money.

Michael D. “They’ll last as long as we keep giving them money”.
The money will continue: tax deductible money from individuals and corporations (who get air time for messages that sound a lot like commercials), supplemented by actual taxpayer money, and funds from completely tax-sheltered foundations.
You may relax, Michael, “we” will be giving them money for a long time to come.

Not if the Bush Administration has any thing to say about it.

That was luckily countered by the Congress, but the Bush Administration has worked hard to try to weaken public broadcasting, including the absurd appointment of the corrupt Ken Tomlinson. I’m not nearly as confident about public broadcasting’s future in the US…

I became a “sustaining” (monthly recurring contribution) member of Minnesota Public Radio earlier this year.
