And isn’t it about time?
In what he described as “an emergency mission to help a key ally in the war on terror,” President George W. Bush flew to Islamabad today to give General Pervez Musharraf tips on how to eliminate democracy.
Mr. Bush said he scheduled the trip just hours after General Musharraf declared a state of emergency in Pakistan and suspended elections “because when it comes to eliminating democracy, I thought my friend Pervez could benefit from my experience.”

Perhaps they can form a coalition of the dissemblers.

From another tough guy wingnut Don Surber on Musharraf
Don’t you love it when wingnuts play the victim card, while imploring the left to be their usual forgiving and understanding selves toward the right. While at the same time blaming dems for being much worse than wingnuts anyway.
In this instance for our undying love and support of all dictators everywhere. Barf!

No one ever talks about the time Clinton illegally invaded Waco, now do they? Or when President Jane Fonda sucked up to the Vietcog? Or when Edward Kennedy had his girlfriend executed at Chappidwick?
AT LEAST MUSHARIFF IS FIGHTING TERRORISTS WHO WANT TO KILL US!!! That’s more than can be said for you egg-sucking liberal traitors.

It’s funny, when they don’t want to talk about something, they say it’s because they philosophically oppose “abstract discussions” and “hypotheticals”, yet they seem to have no qualms about informing us that “if the Democrats don’t pass this bill, terrorists might nuke Manhattan.”

Don Surber, Don Surber…sigh.
The “Left” chums it up with Anti-american dictators? (Which reminds me, John Cole..you’re Che t-shirt is also in the mail. We ALL wear them you know, it’s a rule. Like the Mormon “garment”, you must wear it under your street clothes and even your jammies.)
Just because many think the Cuban embargo is stupid (and rather a huge and unsuccessful bullying tactic that has gone on for nearly 50 years..pointless) doesn’t make them “chummy” with Castro. It makes them intelligent people who recognise that a giant has been picking on it’s small neighbour for decades with no real result escept votes in South Florida.
Mushareff…once again, America, “Freedom, Inc.” is…oh hell, Uzbekistan, boiling peple alive, etc, etc, etc…but damn, that Saddam, he was such a meanie…you do know he oppressed his people. We Americans won’t stand for that!

America first, goddamnit!
Funny. Not even the top legal adviser in the State Dept. is sure which way the WH would lean in whether it would be a good thing or a bad thing for foreign governments, militaries, intelligence and police agencies, etc. to waterboard US civilian citizens. Too esoteric, too abstract to take a position whether that would be right or wrong.
Vote Republican! They got your back.

Er… it’s Andy Borowitz, “Winner Of The First-Ever National Press Club Award For Humor”.

Funny I don’t recall having to be chummy chummy with Chavez or Castro. I also love how the party of personal responsibility and “moral courage” won’t stand up and do the right thing but plays the Democrats/Left/Clinton did it too card. How any thinking person who is not the second generation of their family to walk upright can remain a republican at this point is beyond me.
Chris Johnson
Bloody hell, I can’t tell anymore whether this stuff is joke or nightmare.
Reading the actual article reveals it as an obvious joke, but the bit Michael linked was just straight enough to be plausible as a horrible gaffe, considering that Bush’s people have in fact made extraordinary, major preparations in the event that they should choose to end democracy. I mean, massive privately-run internment camps.
Jokes like that can come back to haunt you.

wanna make bets on whether they will? I mean bush is watching closely…taking notes and such.

At BlogsforBush, they not only talk about it, they claim that the dirty fucking hippies’ lack of nonstop screaming outrage about it means that they are ini favor of burning American babies alive. I’m not even making that up.

Normally, I might applaud lawyers getting pummeled. But in this case, it’s sad to see the police going after the very institutions of democracy. It’s obvious that it’s not right wing religious types they are going after.

Unfortunately, the following quote from Joshua Kurlantzick’s new TNR column is NOT a parody; it’s real:
“As Derek Chollet and Craig Cohen note in a recent article in the Washington Quarterly, President Bush announced last year: ‘When [Musharraf] looks me in the eye and says there won’t be a Taliban and won’t be Al Qaeda, I believe him.’ (Of course, Bush’s personal radar isn’t exactly foolproof — he also looked into Vladimir Putin’s soul and saw an ally who wanted a ‘constructive relationship’ with America. Whoops.)”
