the winner plays Ohio St. for the national title. Go Bucks! Go ‘eers!

My condolences. Never thought WV were a national title threat. I was proven right.

I’m confused. I thought the game of the year is on Nov. 18th. Who are these teams again?
Jon
Tough break for the Mountaineers, but turnovers on the road are a dagger. Now, though, UL has the trap game of trap games: another national appearance against an undefeated conference foe, and I think there’s a very real chance they could trip up there.
If Rutgers runs the table and comes out 12-0, do they get the same nod in the BCS that Louisville will (presumably now) get?

Sorry your boys lost, but I have to admit,I was rooting for Louisville. If my Wolverines beat Ohio State,West Virginia looked like a team that could be trouble.Rutgers is a joke.

Rutgers… nope no way… they started WAY to low in the polls. Is it fair, probably not. I don’t think there’s any way the human polls will ever put Rutgers #2 in the nation.
Maybe if they complete blow out both WV and Louisville.
Just about every game from here on out for Louisville is a trap game… show me an easy win in the Big East? I would have said Connecticut… but after the way they played WV and Rutgers… there’s no easy games left.

The problem is that none of the teams have had anything approaching a tough non-conference schedule, apart from Louisville, who is the only one who played a ranked team (then-#17 Miami). Rutgers beat the next-to-worst Big 10 team (Illinois), West Virginia beat a middling ACC team (Maryland).

See, watching WVU is nothing like watching the Steelers this year. Because even with a couple of losses, they’ve still got a winning record, and get to go to a bowl. If they win out, they get to go to a good bowl, and that’s always fun to watch. The Orange Bowl was a great game for a Penn State fan, and it was a great game to boot.
I have to admit, though, I’m rooting for Rutgers (or Louisville, but I like Rutgers better). Rutgers is a great test case for the BCS – a team that ran the table in a good conference that isn’t an “established power”. This is the type of team the BCS is supposed to help . . . we’ll see if it does. If it doesn’t, then it perpetuates the college football aristocracy of Ohio State, Michigan, USC, and others.

Good to see the Cardinal of Louis’s Ville keep alive that storied Big East football tradition.

Man, this is something NOBODY is talking about. Rutgers is undefeated, and must play Louassville (and Dub-V, which won’t matter as much now…). If THEY go undefeated, but don’t make the title game (uh, they won’t), how fucked is THAT?
Sorry Mr. Cole on the loss. I thought WV had ’em going into the 3rd, but Slaton just couldn’t hold on to the ball, inexplicably. Rough game. Nonetheless, WV’s running game is beyond wicked good.

Geez, Steelers, Mountianeers and the Republicans. Buck up John, it’s always darkest before the dawn. :-)

The first time I noticed conference loyalty was in a Duke v. Ohio State BB game, where the little blue Cameron weasals chanted “ACC ACC!”
Since then we have seen the ACC commit an even greater affront to collegiality by hijacking several Big East teams to boost their sorry football standing.
Accordingly, though I am not a “Big East” fan any more than I am a citizen of the Organization of American States, I enjoy seeing the Big East do well–and both Louisville and West Virginia looked pretty damn good the other night. More than that, I rejoice in looking forward to the Big East handing the ACC its hat in basketball– the one area where the ACC was once top dog.
