I just plugged in my new Razer Diamondback, and I have to say, I don’t like it near as much as my old Boomslang. It is too small and too light.
Fortunately, I just found a couple Boomslang’s on EBAY that I am buying. Why does it always seem that they are discontinuing every product I enjoy?

Same here. I’ve recently lost my favorite cereal (Crunchy Corn Bran) and hair product (Joico’s Con-text molding putty).

Why am I having visions of George Clooney and his obsession with Dapper Dan Pomade?
But on the technology front… I guess I haven’t worried that much about a mouse for quite some time. I used to play a game called netrek, which was originally X11 based and relied upon a 3rd button. One for phasers, one for torps, and the other for steering. (it was a 2D game, steer with mouse, select speed with keyboard)
But I long since gave up that. Now I mostly play 3D shooters, RTCW, CoD, BFV, and lately BF2.
I have a Microsoft Wireless Optical desktop Elite, or whatever it’s called. It’s an Intellimouse and a wireless keyboard. I don’t notice any reaction time issues, except if cat hair gets into the area with the optics and then I yell “OMG! NOO!!!!” Also, occasionally Microsoft nicely tells me that my signal is low, blah blah blah. even after new batteries.
And it’s not that I completely suck. I’m better than average.
I did decide last week that I need to upgrade my 5900XT card to a 6600GT. That seems to be the top end card you can get on the AGP bus. Maybe in a year or two I’ll upgrade to PCI-Express.

Wow, the Boomslang is a high end gamer mouse, John. What do you need it for? When I’m fighting on Battlefield Vietnam sometimes, I use my regular Logitech OEM laser mouse for 12€. A high tech mouse wouldn’t help much, because my reactions are the problem, not the mouse response or resolution :(
So, you’re a regular highscorer on one of those first person shooters? Which is it?

As much as I loved my old Boomslang, I just couldn’t stand using a mouse with a ball after trying an LED or laser mouse. The Diamondback is a fair substitute for the Boomslang, but I wish they’d kept the old styling. The four extra buttons on the sides are practically useless.
