One day, I hope my FAU Fighting Owls choke in the big game to just miss the playoffs.
That would be HUGE step for us.

Congrats, WVU.
Out here in Arizona, we have a lot of swell football players, college and pro. Unfortunately, they all play for other teams, and just live here because we have nice weather in the winter. Our two Pac-Ten teams won a combined total of 9 football games this season.
The NFL Cardinals have won one playoff game in 15 years, I think. Right now they are trying to parlay a 3-7 record into a top draft pick. Damned if the Niners aren’t worse.
We really suck out here.

If a loss by South Florida to UConn sends any team to the BCS there clearly is a problem with the BCS. Congrats to WVU nonetheless.

The term “BCS” will be a joke as long as the Big Least continues to receive an automatic bid. No offense, but when your two best teams left (plus BC), it ceased being a football conference. The only reason it was ever in the BCS to begin with was to be fair to Miami (and subsequently Va Tech got good). But there’s no way it still deserves an automatic bid.

Come on now, give West Virginia their due-there’s some MAC quality teams in the Big East.

Please look at Florida State and the ACC: FSU has 5 losses pretty much and they’re still playing the ACC championship game. And what happens if FSU wins that? So what does this say about the ACC? Don’t knock the Big East: other conferences suck too.

Has anyone examined the collective schedule toughness of the conferences as determined by BCS rankings?
BTW the best conference is clearly the SEC, and the most overrated is that awful Big Ten.

Great….now we got the BCS bid.
Will this be the first bowl game won by the ‘eers in about the last 20 years?
I would love it to be…but am not holding my breath.

Congrats John… WVU will be good for a while. Lot’s of young players. My Longhorns will take down Colorado on the Big12 championship and then smack USC around in the Rose. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Ah yes, the SEC, who on the whole, play virtually nobody out of conference. Nice scheduling. Hey, do you give them credit for their seven wins over D-1AA schools? That’s impressive.
The SEC is tremendously overrated. And I’m not the only person who thinks so.

Oh, and WVU would be no better than fifth in the “overrated” Big Ten. Probably sixth, behind Penn State, OSU, Michigan, Iowa, and Wisconsin, and maybe Northwestern and Minnesota. They beat one good team, and they needed to the officials to screw it up to win that one.
All you need to know about the Big Least and the Big Ten: Rutgers was 4-3 in the Big East. They lost to freaking Illinois! (and I say that as an Illinois grad – man, we suck hard).
If anything, the Big Ten has been underrated this year. Top to bottom, they’d beat up on the SEC.

Don’t forget Michigan State, even though former Louisville coach John L. Smith is probably the Big Ten’s worst coach.Virginia Tech demonstrated West Virginia’s readiness to run with the big dogs. The problem for mediocre teams from bad conferences getting automatic bids is that they are exposed when they play a legitimate contender.

I hope efforts are underway to locate another year of eligibility for Major Harris.
