Coming to a town near you:
Jane Fonda will join George Galloway, the most radical member of the British parliament, on a tour of the United States to accuse the Bush administration of spending money on Iraq that should be spent to help the poor of New Orleans.
The argument, likely to offend many Americans, follows British newspaper and television coverage of Hurricane Katrina that focused on the bungled handling of the aftermath of the storm.
Mr. Galloway, a passionate supporter of anti-Western causes in the Arab world, has been sneered at in Parliament as the “member for Baghdad” because of his regular trips there before the U.S.-led invasion.
He also has been accused of receiving allocations to buy and sell 20 million barrels of Iraqi oil, a charge he has strongly denied.
Miss Fonda was persuaded to join Mr. Galloway’s eight-city traveling show later this month by a friend, Eve Ensler, author of “The Vagina Monologues.” Mrs. Ensler had been impressed by Mr. Galloway’s pugnacious performance in May in front of a Senate committee investigating the U.N. oil-for-food scandal, the London Sunday Times reported…
Chris Dols, an organizer of the U.S. tour, said, “Jane Fonda and George Galloway will point out how much money is being wasted on the war when it is needed to help people at home.”
We haven’t even finished the rescue efforts, and these jackholes are accusing the administration of not spending enough money.
Boggle.

This will be a joy to watch! Snark heaven, awaits.
Jeff Maier
I really wish the more radical usual suspects from left would take vacations from current events. Frankly, their very presence ends up doing a disservice to their cause.
I’m one of the against the Iraq war folks from back before the first sortie was flow but the visages of these folks is just irksome and provokes a knee-jerk anti-Fonda so anti-the-Fonda cause reaction among many mainstreamers.

Why dont hanoi jane and gallabout galloway instead of getting on their band wagon and help out witht he victims or is it beneath their dignanty what a pair of reptiles no wonder i quit watching hanoi janes movies and why dont some british ratfink memeber of their rotten parlament want to wnader around? why dont he just stay home and mind his coutries buisness who at least has the curtassie to send us aid
ppGaz
Good lord.
That does it, I’m joining Arizona Grandparents for Bush, today.
Please delete all my previous posts.
You would think that 40 years of scorn would have taught Ms Fonda something. Something like STFU.
And you thought I had a tin ear.
demimondian
Yeah, but if she works with Gorgeous George, she might find a good charity to steal from.
I hope that it’s fake. I fear that it might not be.
docG
If Democratic politicans do not learn to ignore the far left dingbat patrol, a new opposition party WILL be formed. Disgust with the Bush team’s performance is palpable, but the Democrats are offering nothing but the worn out, rejected agenda that oh, so long ago was a winner. Poor Ms. Fonda behaves like an abused spouse whose father was an alcoholic – oh, oops . . . .
capelza
Sigh…why am I not suprised. God, the RNC has to be paying them through the nose to do this…it’s a wet dream for the GOP :P
Demdude
Maybe we’ll get lucky and there will be a “counter” bus tour by the right wingnuts and the crazies will cancel each other out…….
Mark
Is Cindy Sheehan joining them?
hadenoughofthisyet
What is wrong with these people? Have they no common sense? Jeez. What lunatics.
Geoduck
Doonesbury pretty well summed-up this issue just yesterday. Rightie: WOOHOO!! Leftie: Groan..
The vegetable-oil bus is just the icing on the cake.
capelza
I know what your saying, but that’s the only thing I like about the whole thing!!!! Our little two boat fleet is grounded right now because of the spike in diesel. The margin for the price of fish hasn’t caught up. We literally had a mini meeting about using bio-diesel in our boats day before yesterday (something that had been discussed before without the urgency). Or french fry oil..anything…except patchouli oil of course. :P
demimondian
Or maybe Fred Phelps, everybody’s favorite democrat, will show up to support them, and they’ll realize what they’re doing.
But I doubt it.
hadenoughofthisyet
And if we’re extra lucky the bus will have ‘flower power’ stickers all over it and everyone will be wearing tie-dyed t-shirts.
Groan is right….
Tim F
Then you should be happy as a pig in shit. Democratic politicians already ignore the fringe groups.
If you swap ‘Democratic’ with ‘Republican,’ I’ll admit that you have a point. It’s obvious that any Republican who wants to make it anywhere has to bend over to the Dobsonites. McCain promoting creationism pretty much nailed that particular coffin shut.
capelza
Yeah, I know, we should have kept Ward Churchill from giving the key-note address at the Democratic Convention last year.
DanG
“Yeah, I know, we should have kept Ward Churchill from giving the key-note address at the Democratic Convention last year.”
Instead, Michael Moore sat next to Jimmy Carter as a convention guest of honor. Close enough.
capelza
Oh, Michael Moore, your favourite symbol, and yet he did have a few very successful movies and is guaranteed to start any rightie twitching. Am I the only person who has never seen Farenheit 911 or Bowling for Columbine? I do love Canadian Bacon though :)
My point, if it even needs to made, is that someone (a Rove intern? Someone at FR?) dug up Ward Churchill from the obscurity he so richly deserves and paraded him as representing the left…yeah, that’s right. I know, I know, we did the same thing with Falwell and Robertson. You all would have never known they existed if we hadn’t found them kurking in the shadows, in their little backwater hideyholes..
tBone
Oh, good Lord. Can’t we round up these two and anyone who supports them, along with all of the see-no-evil Bush apologistas, airlift them to New Orleans, dump them all in the
SuperThunderdome and bar the doors?capelza
As long as we force Jane to wear that metal bikini from Barbarella.
Bob
This is a joke, isn’t it?
tzs
You’d sort of think Jane Fonda would have learned to stick to exercise videos by now….
Though it will be fun seeing Galloway. Wasn’t he the one who called Hitchens a “drink-swizzling Trotskyist popinjay”? Sigh, no one does insults like the Brits…
cbankj13
And in Wisconsin it gets even sweeter. North Vietnamese Sympathizer Fonda will be introducing bin Ladenist Galloway in a rally of about 10,000 people,
AND ONE OF THE sponsors for the Leftist cookout and bake sale……………………
The Capital Times. Bet the fair and balance newspapers next endorsement for governor will be a conservative, Right???????????
Narvy
Not even John and Andrei?
Narvy
Dang! I was about to compose something about Barbarella but you beat me to it. You have earned my undying enmity.
Narvy
You’ve got it all wrong, people. Jane Fonda has acknowledged that her antics during the Vietnam war were out of line and she has apologized for them. In light of that, her tour can only help the Democrats, strengthen the anti-war movement (such as it is), change the minds (such as they are) of the pro-war people, and inspire the administration to change its policies.
capelza
Did you say that with a straight face?
demimondian
You must have mistyped the name you post under. On my screen, it shows up as “Narvy”, not “Snarky”.
Narvy
Is it really that hard to recognize bitter sarcasm?
Yes, it certainly is. I like Fonda as an actress, I drooled over “Barbarella” and “Klute”, but as a political
thinkeractivist I think she’s almost as constructive as Katrina.Narvy
capelza:
I thought that was the give-away. Was I wrong?
capelza
Narvy, I’m sorry…I should have made my question better..more like “And I bet you said that with a straight face” :P
Just tired, and need a drink and wishing that a plague of common sense would strike this country. From both wingnuts and moonbats, and the poor middle. Oh, and that plague would strike only idiots dead.
Narvy
But then we wouldn’t have television or blockbuster movies.
Wait, make that television news.
Ima Pauled
I gather that the bulk of the statements here are pro Republican/anti Democrat–right vs left. They are one and the same at the congressional level. Both leading our country to certain economic destruction. Both willingly allowing our sons and daughters to die to enrich themselves and their cronies. You all may be for them but I can assure you–they are not for you. If Thousands of anti war activists had not raised hell we would still have soldiers dying in Viet Nam. War is a Racket.
demimondian
Sheesh. You know that some of us are of an age to have participated or been directly affected by the anti-war protests of the late sixties and early seventies, right? You do realize that some of us watched the “anti-war” movement disintegrate once American college and university students were no longer feeling any risk, right?
Fonda’s little publicity stunt will serve no purpose except to provide the anti-American right with another figurehead at which to shoot, up there with Galloway and whats-his-name from Colorado. I’m with ppG — she needs to learn one fine unixism…STFU. Luser.
Narvy
So where is the part I can argue with?
Ima Pauled
type into search the name Smedley Butler. This is the most decorated General (Marines) in the US Military. He tells it like it is.
Ima Pauled
Not much to argue about there Narvy. If you are against the illegal invasion of a sovereign nation and realize that we are there to shut off the oil flow to the world market and establish bases to
further spread the war into Iran while the likes of Halliburton,Bechtel, and the Carlyle group steal America blind and enslave the American people while reduceing us to a third world nation then all we can do is agree.
Ima Pauled
Has anyone here recieved the National Community Survey ?
This is sent out by the Census burea and they ask very intrusive questions and they fine you $100.00 for every question you skip and $500.00 fine for any question deliberately answered wrong. So much for the 4th and 5th amendment.Land of the free and home of the brave.
Narvy
My view is a little more nuanced than yours, but I don’t want to get into a hair-splitting match.
tBone
Nah, in this thread, at least, the bulk of the statements are anti-idiot – of which there are a never-ending supply on each side of the political aisle.
Narvy
Damn! Why didn’t I think of that?
You have noticed that anti-idiot statements do not keep the idiots away, right?
tBone
You’re exactly right – it’s like waving a red cape at a bull. :)
capelza
Sweetie, I was there, sneaking out of the house to march in 1969 (I was 12). As was pointed out above, most of the anti-war movement died when the draft went away. So did most of the good cool things, like stewardship of the land (I’m still there), everyone became yuppies and decided to vote Republican once they got their first 401K. Yeah..”the movement”…
btw, that was a lot of sarcastic hyperbole, so please don’t take me seriously (though I do own a “Die Yuppie Scum” t-shirt” ;) )
Steve
Jane Fonda and George Galloway don’t speak for me.
Does Ann Coulter speak for you, John?
washerdreyer
Galloway and Hitch are debating in New York one week from Wednesday. I really dislike Hitch, but I think if I were to go, I’d be forced to root for him. So I’m going.
Oh,Boy.Stupidity!
Thanks, GB Shaw, for the civics lesson. Does being self-righteous make you all warm and fuzzy or do you get some sort of tax break?
Yeah, let’s allow Communism and Islamo-terrorism to spread. We don’t anyone to make a buck anywhere at anytime for any reason.
What do you tell the doctor when you’re sick? “No, Doc, let the cancer spread, damn if I’m gonna let some Pharmaceutical company profit!”
I bet someone’s profiting from cleaning up N’awlins. Can’t we just wait for the sun to dry everything?
HH
Fitting – the closest thing to a Fonda-esque traitor in this war teams up with Jane her own self.
Narvy
Oh,Boy.Stupidity!
Thank you for that trenchant analysis.
