Rob Schneider is getting no respect at all. First, Roger Ebert savages him. Today, the NY Times has a puff piece about the Daily Show’s Steve Carel that has this paragraph:
If Mr. Carell does, in fact, emerge as the film-comedy hot property, competing for roles against the likes of Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughan, Will Ferrell (or, if things go horribly wrong, Rob Schneider), he will undoubtedly owe much of his success to the cachet that comes from his four years in the cast of “The Daily Show,” where he honed the deadpan obliviousness that led to “Bruce Almighty” (where he arguably outshone Jim Carrey), “Anchorman” and “The Office.”
Not that he deserves any respect, but, man… I dated a girl who thought the ‘Making Copies’ routine on SNL was the height of hilarity. I was not so impressed.

John, John-a-rama, makin’ cop’ahs, at the cop’ah machine. John with the blog, the blog-man. The Cole-meister…
Sorry; I remember when that was briefly cool, and it was a long time ago…

Best comment I’ve seen in weeks, Pb.

Rob was really savaged on Howard Stern Monday a.m. I believe they went over to Sirius and someone was just ripping him left and right over this movie. Even Robin thought it was ‘not good’.

Didn’t Matt and Trey from South Park destroy him too? “Rob Schneider in ‘ADerpa Derpy-Der”
Doug
Hey, Schneider did an excellent job as the play-by-play announcer in Necessary Roughness.
Aziz
actually, you could argue that with respect to his movie career, Rob Schneider is still Makin’ Copies. bad ones.
Mr.Ortiz
What I love about Rob Schneider is that he comes across as really intelligent in interviews, and strongly believes in the quality of his own work. Then you see the actual movie and it’s the biggest bait and switch ever.
Ah, who am I kidding? I’ve never seen a Rob Schneider movie.

True Story. My sixth grade teacher was his sister. I have a autograph from him that says Dan- a rama, the danster, making copies.

I object. Rodney Dangerfield was actually funny. Schneider’s fellows are the likes of Pauly Shore, Carrot Top, Steve Guttenberg, et. al.: the inexplicably famous despite overwhelming evidence of their wretchedness.
The South Park parody of Schneider was a classic bit and dead-on. Even Schneider had to admit as such.

Guipo:
You note that your sixth grade teacher “was” his sister.
Has she disowned him?
And Joel: yup, in re: the fact that Rodney could be funny; Rob, not so much.

is…was. I meant it in the past tense. She actually changed her name back to Schneider after a marrige belive.

Back in the early 90’s, Schneider came to perform at my college. After 5 minutes of the makin’ copies routine, it was clear he had no other material.
So the crowd started heckling him.
It got so bad that he left the stage and Adam Sandler came out to work the crowd a little before Scheider would come back out. And still had nothing past the making’ copies…
