I am taking a break from blogging, and I will be back on Monday.
In the meantime, some links for you:
An excellent deconstruction of Amnesty International’s idiotic statement that Gitmo is a “Gulag.” More outrage here. Rendition continues to be American policy.
For sheer pleasure, you can go here to read the Dan Rather transcript from CNN’s Larry King last night, where he continued to insist the documents are not fakes.
Kevin Drum has concluded his 82 part piece on peak oil, which, considering oil is over $54 a barrel again, you should probably read it.
More photos are going to be released regarding Abu Ghraib.
An Iraq update from the NY Times and a report of 12,000 civilian dead in Iraq.
The Texas Legislature is done and education reform stalled, but Rick Perry will sign a bill banning gay marriage at a church scool. Education and progress, fundie style.
Ben Stein still hates Mark Felt.
Morons keep building mansions on top of unstable hills, which is a horrible idea but mnakes for good film at 11. We keep bailing out the mouthbreathers who repeatedly build in flood plains, so I imagine we will be on the hook for this, too.
The EU is in turmoil.
A former pop star and current pervert awaits earthly judgement.
The Persian gulf viewpoint- Flushing a Koran- Bad. Selling humans- not so bad.
See you all Monday.

I hope you enjoy your break. Try to get completely away from all this political bullshit. It’s important, but it will make you crazy if you don’t get away from it sometimes.

Gee, feeling all abandoned, like those cats you hate.
Anyway, reactions to your chumming:
Woo-hoo; hoo-booy; BFD; Under New Management!; Tin Soldiers and Nixon’s Coming; Don’t Mess with Texas; Overdrawn; Can’t make more land; Too Bad, So Sad; Already judged–he has the face he deserves; Yeah, but the Downing St. Memo!!!!
Got my licks in. Almost first!

Keep posting like that and John Stewart (of Daily Show fame) may have competition.

Happy break!
Ben Stein is cute, first compating Felt to a Nazi war criminal and then damning him for attacking Nixon, “who was busy saving Israel”.
Really fucking cute. Why don’t wingnut conservatives get pilloried for this crap?
Stormy70
Why does it hates us? Tricksy, John, very tricksy.
In Texas, we only let our legislature meet every two years. You did notice that the bill put up by the Democrat Rep. banning sexy cheerleading, died in the Senate. Killed off by Republicans, I might add. Also, the obligitory: Don’t mess with Texas, our egos might git ya!
Have a great weekend!

Enjoy your vacation!
Rick
Tim,
What are you waiting for?

Get outta here. Drink heavily. Don’t you dare peak in.

I agree that Amnesty International was foolish to describe Gitmo as modern day Gulag, especially since the word “Gulag” does not appear once in their Gitmo report. What this absurd Gulag reference did was take attention away from the whole point of the report, which is that America is behaving in a most un-American way in running the Gitmo camp.
Amnesty International stands for much of what America stands for: basic human rights. Too bad that stupid “Gulag” comment has become the story rather than the un-American behavior of some of our military personnel.
And no, conservatives, I don’t hate the military and I am not cheering for Bush to fail. I just believe that America and Americans must adhere to the highest standards of conduct that is humanly possible.

Have an enjoyable break!

John –
As your attorney in this matter, I advise you nurse a decent scotch until saying the words “Gitmo” and “wingnut” sound identical to a disinterested third party.
CadillaqJaq
John, I gotta agree with the first part of critter’s suggestion about the scotch (or something more manly…) Take a rest. I haven’t been paying any attention to anyone’s politics for several weeks (months?) and IDM… (“It Don’t Matter” for the lesser informed.)
Later… maybe. CJ
