While sitting in the desert in 1991, I never would have guessed a decade later I would spend three hours rooting for the Iraqi soccer team.

(Crossposted to RedState) It has long been my general opinion that, no matter whatever path the United States of America takes in this crazy mixed-up world, we must infallibly do one thing: we must, never, ever, ever field a soccer*

And thanks to Pres. Bush, if they lose in the next round, they don’t have to worry about Qusay torturing them.
Think that little fact will be lost on the commentators?

shark,
Let’s see what ape, bloggerhead and oregonian (Moe, Shemp & Curley to me) have to say.
Cordially…

The commentators (no byline) on ESPN noticed, down in the 8th paragraph.

John,
Great comment on your surprise that you would one day root for the Iraqi team. I felt the same exact way today.

Iraq is kind of like the Lithuanian basketball team in ’92. Newly liberated, and apparently talented as well.
But no Greatful Dead uniforms.

If the folks in charge of the Republican National Convention have any brains at all, they’re already preparing a presentation for the convention that looks a lot like this.

Looks like they’re in Simon & Garfunkel mode–“The Sound Of Silence.”

Sorry, guys, but I’ve just spent the last couple of days moving my girlfriend back in with her ex-husband…I know, I know, but it’s definitely in the best interest of two very good kids, and we didn’t need no stinkin’ judge.
As for the Iraq victory, I only saw the highlights & haven’t yet started following this tournament, but ponder on this little bit of synchronicity. In the recently completed Euro2004, the champions, the Greeks–and the hosts of this Olympiad, interestingly enough–too defeated a favored Portugal in their first game of the tournament, and of course, in their last, the championship. If there’s an Iraq/Portugal final in these games, I’d bet the house on the Iraqis. (OK, not my house, the ex-husband’s.) Hey, stranger things have happened.

Well, I question the timing. ;)

You gonna watch em still John, after the Iraqi soccer teams’ comments on Bush and the occupation of Iraq?
