So I am watching the Matrix: Reloaded on DVD, and it occurred to me that every movie about the future, with the exception of 2001, seems to be grimy and dirty. Do we outlaw soap in the future, you think? Is Windex a goner?

Gritty is edgier, and a lot of SF movies these days tend towards edgy. Personally, I’d like to see more near-future films where both people and the sky wore something besides grey & black… then again, would they be /interesting/?

Edgy, though, is a bit overdone. Unfortunately, so is the cleanroom look a la THX 1138. But that was a while back; maybe it’ll come around again.

Hey, I disagree! In the Star Trek movies, sure, we go through a nuclear holocaust. But in the end there are cool spaceships!

I thought “Minority Report” was fairly clean, and the first house they go into was even fairly typical.

Hell, I’m still wondering how Cornell West survived…

Windex is the back-up power supply in case the humans are all killed. So, no, it’s not around.

Hey, It was pretty spiffy looking in Back to the Future’s version of the future.
Me? I still want a hoverboard. Even the pink Mattel one would be ok.
