I’m Really Going To Miss Him
“Howard Dean knows about as much about the South as a hog knows about Sunday.” – Senator Zell Miller (D-GA)…
Why I Won’t Vote For Dean…
I can’t be sure which Dean I was getting. Having seen the metrosexual flap play itself out recently, I thought the local radio station was kidding when they said that Mr Dean (who’s in town on a fundraiser) wanted to be the “candidate for guys with Con…

But, John! Miller isn’t a *real* Democrat! He’s wrong, wrong, wrong!
You can use that line to prep yourself for when someone actually means it.
Frank
Correct! He’s not a “real” Democrat! He’s RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT. He’s a Southern gentleman in the colour of Lee and Jefferson. He has principles, and he stands by them. Like ’em or not. Makes me proud to hail from Georgia.

A conservative from a conservative state is endorsing the conservative candidate for President. Proposed headline: Dog Bites Man.

Who cares what this D.I.N.O. has to say?

“A conservative from a conservative state is endorsing the conservative candidate for President. Proposed headline: Dog Bites Man.”
A Democrat from a Democrat state up until recently is endorsing the Republican for president because he says the Democrats have made major screw-ups to lose the South. The Democrats lost in a landslide in his Southern state. But surely he has nothing of VALUE to say, right?
Kimmitt
Amazing how Zell Miller can write an entire essay on how the Democrats lost the South and not mention race even once. Suspicious minds might suspect something of a whitewashing of the issue.
John Cole
Amazing how you mention the Democrats losing the entire South and the first thing you thing of is race, despite having just read what Zell Miller said about the Dean’s confederate flag remark.
You just don’t get it, do you? There hundreds of reasons you have lost the south- race is a very small issue anymore.
Kimmitt
Race is why we lost the South. It still hurts. But (on the Federal level), the South will stay lost because the Dems decline to put forward fundamentalist Christians who do not believe in a separation of Church and State. The antigay bigotry isn’t doing us any favors, either.
At some point, you have to suck up that some people have priorities you don’t share. Dean is doing a magnificent job of attempting to remind poor white Southerners of the priorities we all share, which is part of why he’s such a great candidate — he finds common ground.
But the South is a Republican stronghold (Federally) because the Republican Party puts forward antigay Protestant fundamentalists, while tolerating the antiblack bigots and feeding them a few scraps to keep them in line.*
*Please note that the Dems also do this with African-American antiwhite bigots. It’s a crazy-ass world. Also, local State parties do not follow the same bright-line dichotomy as their Federal representatives.

Someone’s a disgruntled donk who is crying over spilled milk because their guys can’t get elected anymore.
Of course, if you actually KNEW anything about the south, you’d know about the state-wide black Democrats who get elected in landslides, but why inject knowledge with ignorance is the theme du-jour?
Kimmitt
I know it’s extremely hard for people who use the word “donk” to read and comprehend English, but you will note that I drew distinctions between the Federal and State Parties.

The above, from a fellow who’s willing to refer to another poster as “fascist buttpong”. Somehow the appeal to moral superiority doesn’t quite wash, Kimmitt.
