In what looks like a fatal outbreak of irony, Kevin Drum asks for civility from his commenters and a flame war breaks out.
FWIW- My comments rules are real simple- easy on the language and no racism or gay-bashing, but other than that, say what you want- it just reflects poorly on you when you turn into a bottom-dweller. I will, however, take anyone who tries to start “Democrats are Communists” and “Republicans are fascists” and the ensuing “Left wing dictators killed more people last century than right wing dictators did” debate and tie them to a stake, rub tuna on them, and let my cats have at them.

There is no reason to accept the downward spiral of civility. Comments *can* be moderated. If you have the tool and you don’t take the time to use it, some of the fault has to be laid with the blogger. Something to think about.
