I am not watching. The first 72 were enough.
*** Update ***
PS- It is that time of year again: Edy’s Limited Edition Peppermine Ice Cream.
*** Update #2 ***
Malkin on the Kos/Rove Newsweek thing:
I wouldn’t get too worked up about it. The fact that they both accepted the invitation shows they share a need for mainstream approbation and a common belief that writing for a circulation-losing, influence-dwindling publication is worth their time.
I predict they’ll write preemptively safe, toned-down pieces to match expectations of MSM respectability–and they’ll save any truly newsworthy, interesting insights for their own home bases (dKos for Kos, conservative talk radio/Fox/etc. for Rove).
As opposed to Michelle, who can be counted on to write something hysterical and stupid regardless the venue. If I have learned anything reading Malkin, it is that she isn’t looking for respectability.
cd6
This is a silly statement from somebody who writes a column for TownHall.com and appears on shitty shows like John Gibson’s.
dougie smooth
Obama opened the debate by getting pwned by Clinton and then getting shouted down by the audience. Ouch.
Andy K
Sounds like someone’s jealous.
D-Chance.
I loved the Stalkin’ Malkin “Zzzzzzzz” post. The jealousy was just dripping off the computer screen.
—–
As for the Dem debate, really like Dodd. Kinda like Biden, but he’s too crusty to be the top dog. As a veep partner for Dodd… both seem competent. The Dems could do worse than a Dodd/Biden ticket, the Repubs certainly won’t do better.
Oh, and Kucinich is still some weird little elf from the planet S-4052ZM.
The rest are who they are.
Will love Obama in 2016 when he has a few more years under his belt. Edwards still comes across as too plastic to me. Hillary is calculatingly cold until she raises her voice; then she’s every hen-pecked husband’s worst nightmare. Yeah, it’s shallow; but it’s also true. Richardson is a two-bit ante player in the Big Game; he just doesn’t look like he fits in that company. Great soldier; not suited to be general.
Libby Spencer
I read a few posts. You can taste the bitterness in Wingnuttia tonight. They all thought one of them deserved the gig.
Nylund
No matter how dwindling Newsweek may be, isn’t it pretty well established that pretty much none of the rightwing blogs or magazines manage to pull a profit whatsoever?
She still sounds bitter about being fired by O’Reilly. Now all she has is that good ol’ wingnut welfare that bankrolls all those money losing ventures.
Patterico
Oh, I can’t imagine that she’d write anything as hysterical and stupid as suggesting that a blogger be kicked in the nuts for having a philosophical debate about a hot topic in the news.
Psycheout
Shrillary delivered her pre-scripted “I am a woman hear me roar” speech. Not much to see here.
When Silky Pony pointed out, quite fairly, that Harpy Hillary happily takes money from the evil lobbyists and moneyed elite, the audience booed. That was a bit funny.
Rupert Murdoch is backing Hillary for G-d’s sake. And he’s 100% behind Giuliani, and using his news network to flog him on us. He’s playing both sides. Heads he wins, tails we lose.
Actually the worst one in the debate so far is former U-boat commander, Wolf Blitzer. I wish he’d take off that false beard and go home.
Psycheout
Did I mention Breck Girl’s hair looked really pretty?
Laertes
That lady is pissed. She didn’t just want that job, she seriously expected it.
Andrew J. Lazarus
I love Edy’s [called Dreyers west of the Mississippi] Peppermint too. Must be the agent that corrupts Republican minds and turns them into hysterical, shrill, dKos minions.
John Cole
Patterico, what I wrote was:
Does this mean that you were actually trying to justify torture, rather than just “having a philosophical debate about a hot topic in the news?”
Andy K
With the notable exception of havin’ voted nay in 2005 to S. 256.
Joe’s support of that piece of legislation, not his surly demeanor, has cost Bankruptcy Bill Biden any hopes of the nomination. I just wish someone would let him know.
Bubblegum Tate
Yes, they all operate at a loss (sometimes a significant loss) and draw very small readerships. They’re basically niche mags that wingers like to think of as major commercial pubs. But then again, they aren’t really intended to make money or draw big circ numbers or whatever; they’re just supposed to be a part of the overall noise machine. Specifically, they’re supposed to be the “respectable” part, the “intellectual” publications full of wisdom and sober analysis (though, naturally, they’re just full of right-wing party line bullshit). The fact that they are money pits is of no concern–there’s plenty more Scaife money to keep ’em going.
Love Stalkin’ Malkin’s sour grapes, though. Quick–investigate the countertops of Newsweek execs!
jake
This article comes pretty close to capturing my feelings re: tonight’s debate.
Can we just get to the part where we vote already?
laneman
What kinda person uses
when writing?
Oh, yeah, a blowhard.
jcricket
Washington Times is something like $100 million (really) in the hole over the last 10 years or so. Rev. Moon uses his religious operation (anyone remember the moonies) to finance the paper and is only right-wing because he likes the power circles it lets him run in around DC.
None of Scaife’s papers have ever made money. In fact, I don’t think Scaife himself has ever made money (I think he inherited it all).
And witness the recent scandal at Regenry Publications, where it’s basically been revealed that most (if not a vast majority) of their circulation is free copies, bargain basement bulk sales, etc.
Sure, print media’s circulation is in decline (perhaps terminally in the case of newspapers), but all of them have been profitable up until recently, and none rely on the billions of some partisan whack-job to keep them afloat. I guess Republican ideals can’t survive without welfare.
I think Fox News is a money-maker, though, owing to Murdoch’s News Corp savvy.
I like that Michelle Malkin is admitting – her ideas are not fit for the mainstream, and she’d rather just hang out in the ever-shrinking echo chamber of sycophants that surrounds her.
Andy K
Double entendre or double negative?
Incertus (Brian)
I think Fox News is a money-maker, though, owing to Murdoch’s News Corp savvy.
Fox News makes money, but as I understand it, most of Murdoch’s US papers are money pits, well, except for the WSJ, but he only just bought that.
Patterico
Does this mean that you were actually trying to justify torture, rather than just “having a philosophical debate about a hot topic in the news?”
You wrote “another stupid post attempting to justify the use of torture” immediately after discussing my post. I assumed that, in one of your trademark self-righteous fits of rage, you were accusing me of trying to justify torture.
Are you now saying that you weren’t making that claim about me?
If so, you might want to be a tad clearer about that.
Psycheout
Osama got booed comparing Hillary to Romney and Giuliani. Funny stuff!
jnfr
Poor Wolfie is getting run over by the Dems. They just won’t shut up. Which is kind of how I feel about this primary season – I’m ready to get on with it. (Full disclosure: Edwards/Dodd fan here. Bite me.)
cd6
Patterico how do you have time to post comments here??
Shouldn’t you be calling up the Police to complain that John Cole THREATENED TO PHYSICALLY ASSAULT YOU??
“Waaa waaa waaa I advocated torture and somebody said they’d kick me in the junk?”
dougie smooth
I think that was as much ooing as booing about the Romney/Giuliani comparison, as in “oo, burn”.
cd6
Quoth Patterico:
But the real question is: would you support letting a man put his penis in your bumhole if it were 100% certain it would prevent a terrorist attack?
dougie smooth
Patterico, a response of kicking you in the nuts has the same intellectual depth as your “philosophical” debate.
cleek
…you were accusing me of trying to justify torture.
yeah, like anybody could possibly think that.
Psycheout
Final stupid question was for the Harpy. Which do you prefer, diamonds or pearls.
The typical Clinton answer was given: both. Hillary wants it both ways. She stands for nothing but sticking her finger in the wind.
Congrats, dems. She’s going to be your nominee. I guarantee it.
John Cole
I clearly think you are attempting to justify torture. I am just surprised that now you admit you are.
Psycheout
dougie smooth, I did replay it. And I think I heard boo-urns. Whatever that means.
simplicio
Don’t sleep on Edy’s limited edition pumpkin ice cream either. Supplemented with some graham crackers and whip cream is real livin’
D-Chance.
“diamonds or pearls”… note to future debate broadcasts… no more audience questions. Submit in writing. And then edit.
Richardson and Kucinich are wastes of time. Future Dem debates should be limited to 5.
Psycheout
Hmmm, this reminds me of the ticking timebomb scenario, but something’s not quite right….
Patterico
I clearly think you are attempting to justify torture. I am just surprised that now you admit you are.
Nope, I’m merely pointing out that it was obvious you were referring to me, even though your reference was a misreading of my hypothetical.
Personally, I’m surprised that a blogger I halfway respected turns out to be someone who deliberately throws out red meat to his audience, by making references to physical attacks.
Oh, and if you take that as an insult, then it means you’re ADMITTING YOU DID IT DELIBERATELY!!!!! According to John Cole Logic (TM).
dougie smooth
oh for fuck’s sake patterico, get over yourself. referring to a nuts-kicking is mockery, not an incitement to violence.
John Cole
We have a winner. Although, if I had stolen from Eddie Murphy and made it a kick to the ding-ding in the hypothetical, then there should be cause for concern.
jcricket
Don’t forget about the “think tanks” and their part in the noise machine.
jcricket
ticking time-bum? har-har, i slay me.
What the world needs now, is another right-wing blowhard, like I need a hole in my head…
jcricket
BTW – I completely agree. I can’t watch the Today show now with all the primary coverage. I can’t take another year of this. Can we just get to the part where we vote and GW leaves office?
The Other Steve
I don’t think Patterico realizes he is being mocked.
The Other Steve
I didn’t watch the debate. Was it hosted by Wolf Blitzer?
I think he would be better suited to hosting a game show. Maybe Family Feud?
Robert Johnston
Wow. Someone forgot to feed Patterico his meds tonight, and we’ve all got to suffer the consequences.
If the Mississippi Supreme Court could recognize in 1926 that waterboarding a black man was barbaric torture sufficient to overturn a murder conviction then we all can surely recognize that anyone defending waterboarding today is a sadistic bastard unfit to be labeled a human being.
Patterico
It’s “mockery” pitched to a group that includes people who think that I am less than a human being, and one who says (on another thread) that I am a bigger enemy to this country than Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who planned 9/11.
A guy on Obsidian Wings yesterday said he hoped I die a painful death in a fire.
I bet just by saying that, I am ensuring that a pack of commenters will jump in and agree.
John, if Michelle Malkin “mocked” a leftist by suggesting that he be attacked — to an audience packed with people who are deadly serious in their belief that the person “mocked” is less than human — you would go apeshit.
Plus, I am not even a torture supporter. I have written about the Higazy case and disapproved of the government threatening an innocent man’s family. The truth is that you don’t know a goddamned thing about my position on the subject, but threw out “mockery” to get your pack of jackals to suggest even worse, which you knew full well they’d do. You did so because you got thrown into one of your little hysterical fits of self-righteousness.
You would never tolerate this from Malkin.
But you wouldn’t have to. She has far too much class to engage in the kind of bullshit you pulled today.
dougie smooth
Patterico:
When you ask a carefully constructed moral hypothetical, designed to get “self-righteous chest-pounders … on record answering the question” before you go on with your “follow-up questions”, don’t be shocked if people make assumptions about the intent of your exercise. And at the very least, don’t play the misunderstood victim who was simply proffering a neutral hypothetical that hysterically self-righteous hypocrites are now unfairly mocking you for.
Secondly, you’ve been on the nets long enough not to be shocked that anyone could possibly say they hoped you die in a fire. For you to attempt to impute such a truly classless comment to anyone else’s right mockery of you is so pathetic as to be pitiable.
Psycheout
I think you should sue. That’s clearly libel. Can you provide some links? I’d like to write a post about this. That is some incredible hate speech. Let’s give those leftists a taste of their own bitter medicine.
John Cole
Is there another Malkin out there that I don’t know about?
dougie smooth
If, instead of being so classy all the time, Malkin actually went around encouraging her readers to kick other people in the junk, she would be considerably more tolerable. Because that would make her funny, because everyone [except patterico] understands a kick in the nuts as comical, imagined cartoon violence.
The Other Steve
In the grand scheme of things, we must look at not who hates us the most, but rather who poses a greater threat to American values and our way of life.
The fact of the matter is, guys like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed don’t post much of a threat. They can kill us, but they by themselves cannot destroy our country or our way of life.
Those who can do the most damage, are the cowards. The people who say we throw American values out the window because they are inconvenient. The guys who argue that our actions should be motivated not by what is right and just, but by how afraid we are.
Death is just death. Cowardice, however, destroys everything.
I make no opinion on whether you are a greater enemy. I don’t care.
But if you don’t want to be attacked, you might want to tone down the America-hating rhetoric.
The Other Steve
Instead she encourages them to hide in the bushes and inspect their countertops.
Which is not funny. It’s just creepy.
grumpy realist
Patterico, you’re getting mocked because you fuckin’ well deserve it. You put together a straw man that doesn’t exist (the posters at Obsidian Wings did a masterly job of dissecting the inanity of your proposed gedankenexperiment), and we’re pointing out that you’re a bloody stupid blowhard with no integrity, no intelligence, and no empathy for the godforsaken unfortunate victims who have been scooped up as “terrorists” simply because their neighbor had a grudge and “denounced them to the authorities.” Life isn’t a Jack Bauer movie, you silly nitwit. And go back to Soviet Russia, where you belong.
Feh.
Patterico
Michelle Malkin has more class in her little finger than the whole lot of idiots here. Y’all continue to demonstrate that.
grumpy realist
Patterico, you’re holding up as exemplar a woman who thinks that Japanese internment was just dandy.
I don’t give a rat’s ass about “class.” I do care about torture and human rights. Which obviously you do not. Case closed.
Snark Based Reality
“Michelle Malkin has more class in her little finger than the whole lot of idiots here. Y’all continue to demonstrate that.”
Class?
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Patterico
I don’t give a rat’s ass about you because you have no fucking idea what my opinions are.
Admit it: you haven’t read any of my posts on this.
Another Cole moron.
Snark Based Reality
Project much?
Psycheout
Have you ever been kicked in the testicles? There’s nothing comical about it.
rachel
I’m shocked, _shocked_ that members of Baloon Juice stalked and harrased a kid’s family because he spoke out in favor of S-CHIP!
rachel
..except when it happens to people who think torture is not always wrong.
Psycheout
Pattycakes, are you inluding me in the “whole lot of idiots?” I thought I was on your side. I’m still hoping you can provide those links. It would make a great post.
Psycheout
Oh, and Patterico, profanity is completely unnecessary when you have the truth on your side. Let’s be better than these leftist loons.
dougie smooth
Oh, you were serious about wanting to post a collection of cherry picked hate speech? Just like Bill O’Reilly trawling DKos to “prove” how hateful the site is? Grand idea. So, once you prove people say mean things on the internet, what’s left for the encore?
Mc Dime
Psychout, how witty you are in referring to Obama as Osama. That’s really clever. I notice you did the same on another thread. This so screams I’m a stupid hack, it doesn’t really deserve a response but since we seem to be debating who’s an idiot on this thread, I just couldn’t resist
Psycheout
Mc Dime, calm down. It was a typo. If it will make you feel better, I’ll mail you a quarter. I know how sensitive you liberals are, with your feelings and stuff. Give me a break.
Psycheout
Oh, and you can contact me on my site. Just send me $2.00 for postage and $3.00 for handling (since I have to handle snail mail myself) and I’ll send you a shiny new quarter.
Punchy
Wow, I read this, and though this post was Mike D’s…
jcricket
This is why I described Patterico as a greater enemy to America than KSM.
What’s “funny” is how wingers are always projecting that the left is going to mount a “fifth column” and “destroy America” when that’s exactly what they’re doing by ruining our discourse and supporting un-American (yes) activities like torture.
And the whole “I was just being hypothetical” dodge is totally pathetic.
Chris
If I’ve learned anything about Malkin since I saw that Youtube cheerleader video of hers, its that she’s not looking for respectability, she’s looking to get banged in a vigorous fashion by a garden furniture salesman in a suburban Ramada Inn while her husband looks on and films, then have the shaky dvcam footage of it replayed over and over on Voyeurweb and then they all go out to Olive Garden for pasta and garlic bread afterwards.
Viva the American Dream, Mexicans and islamofascists need not apply.
cleek
and yet, you’re still here.
Mc Dime
Sure it was a typo, Psychout. It just happened to occur on two seprate threads. The B and S keys are far enough apart on the keyboard that the prospect of a typo is rather thin. Maybe it was just your subconcious typing. And you’re so very cute with the tired liberals are so sensitive comment. Surely, you can do better.
Tax Analyst
And your point? “Approbation”, after all, is not some obscure technical term. It’s a proud and proper member of the English Language and has been for quite some time now. You know, if you have problems with big words your word processing program probably has a dictionary and a thesaurus to help you out.
No charge for the advice.
Tax Analyst
Oh, wait…you mean John Cole wasn’t actually advocating his reader’s actually go find Patterico and actually kick him in his actual nuts?
Dammit…and I’d already purchased my train ticket to Pattericoland…
Tax Analyst
No one here thinks you are “less than a human being”, at least as far as I can tell.
Many folks, however, do consider you an asshole. Count me among them, and then have a nice day, will ya’?
jcricket
Hopefully you got an express ticket. Otherwise you have to stop in Wackville, Outer Wackistan, Metropolitan Wackistan and South Carolina before you get to Patterico-land. That’s quite the trip to just kick someone in the nuts.
Tax Analyst
Nah, I’ve already scrapped those plans. Better idea: Gonna hire some former professional place-kicker from the NFL to do it. Anybody got Tom Dempsey’s e-mail address? That built-up steel toe he has ought to do the trick nicely.
Johnny Pez
Shorter Patterico:
Don’t junk me, bro!
