Some days it gets hard to believe how rapidly the Giuliani campaign has become a weird self-caricature.
Greg Sargent thinks that the major media outlets will find it interesting that the Giuliani campaign jilted an Iowa farm couple when it found out that they didn’t have enough money to qualify for the Estate Tax. I could be wrong, but that strikes me as unlikely. After all, Sargent is a partisan source and one of those crazy blogger people. John Harris’s fishwrap will only go into full alert when they hear about it from one of their Republican staffer friends or see it on Drudge.
If only we knew what Rudy spent on his hair…
***Update***
Side note to Greg: the word is jilted, not snubbed. The word both fits better and better conveys the rudeness involved.

A little bit of advice to Lord Giuliani… Since he doesn’t know Iowa.
Iowa is all about soil quality. So Read this map
The blue counties are wealthy. Orange are well to do. Yellow is doing ok, and white is dirt poor.
That’s where you get the money.
Reverse the order, and that’s where you get the votes.
The Other Steve
My advice was for Republicans. It’s more complicated for Democrats, because the money and votes come from the same counties, but you have to get 30-40% of the white county votes to succeed state wide. :-)

Rudy campaigning in the Heartland. That’s almost funny in itself. Look forward to seeing him in cowboy boots and hat eating ribs.
Hopefully the dresses he packs go below the knee. They’re a little more conservative in the Corn Belt than in NYC.
Scruffy McSnufflepuss
This is the funniest thing I’ve read all day!

Does Prada make Cowboy boots for men?
Andrew
Powesheik County represent!
Demdude
You would think the folks coming to the state would try to figure out the culture.
I’ve lived in Iowa 6 years. They are so polite here that it is considered rude to honk at someone even if they cut you off.
Throw in the abortion deal, and he is wasting his time here.

I felt really bad for that couple. I hope the right-wing noise machine is gentle with them, now that they’ve criticized a Republican.
Rome Again
On a different note, I just saw a Mitt Romney commercial where he admitted he’s just dying to use the veto pen (paraphrased, but I’d still say that statement was accurate… I think I heard “give me the veto pen”…. Hmmmmmm. Grover Norquist must have shit his pants, because he knows the only way to drown Washington in a bathtub is to milk it dry.
Otto Man
It’s. OK. If. You’re. A. Republican.

I lived in Ames for 10 years, and my family is from the center east… Vinton, Independence, Amana Colonies, etc.
This was pretty classless on Guli’s part. Although, I suspect he’ll still do well. Iowa republican caucuses are pretty simple. They prefer candidates from neighboring states, and failing that they’ll go for the establishment.
The Establishment this time around is either Guli or McCain. Nobody else stands a chance of gaining traction. They’re too weird, or too foreign.
Jimmmm
Rudygate is on Poo-litico, only not in above-the-title agate:

Talk about burying the lede, headline, and story.
Andrew
Mmmmmmm… spätzle!
And outlet shops!
Zombie Santa Claus
What about Brownack? He’s from Kansas, that’s not too far off. Also, for a Republican, he’s pretty normal.
Zombie Santa Claus
That is, he’s normal as far as Republicans go.
Jake
Or he could just hand out the OxyContin like it was M&Ms.
The Mayor of Sept 11th will get you sooooo high.
Otto Man
Between the drugs, the mistresses, and all the Yankee-ring bling, it looks like Rudy is making a pitch for the all-important gangsta rap constituency of the Big Tent GOP.
Too bad Eazy-E is dead. He could’ve been his running mate.
Zombie Santa Claus
Hilarious. Eazy-E really was a Republican, you know. As hard as that is to believe. Then again, he was rich, and the lyrics were just some bullshit he spouted to earn himself some Benjamins. Sort of like if I got paid $1,000,000 to write spoof text for wingnuts. Bet your ass the Democrats would get a hefty donation from that right-wing money.
Steve
If I know Iowa, McCain seems like the natural winner. He’s sort of got that Dolementum.
Tom Gellhaus
Behavior such as this only gives me hope. Don’t count Ron Paul out this early – there is a LONG way still to go.
Andrew Sullivan finally put up a post and 2 followup letters written by admirers of Dr. Paul. Those of us who see that he is sincere, and has never flip-flopped, are determined that his message get to the American people.
If anyone who reads this blog still has any hope for the future of the Republican party, the only person running who can restore it is Congressman Ron Paul.
