Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

When they say they are pro-life, they do not mean yours.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

People are weird.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

We do not need to pander to people who do not like what we stand for.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

No Kings: Americans standing in the way of bad history saying “Oh, Fuck No!”

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

No one could have predicted…

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

We still have time to mess this up!

Find someone who loves you the way trump and maga love traitors.

People identifying as christian while ignoring christ and his teachings is a strange thing indeed.

Also, are you sure you want people to rate your comments?

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

But who NEEDS Constitutional Rights, anyway? Right? Because if you’re a GOOD American you’ll always trust and believe the President – who would never, ever, ever feed you complete BS on a constant, never-ending basis just win elections and maintain power. I know all the nut-wings out there think it will never be their turn in the barrel. Sorry, I can’t muster anything but disgust and cynicism for the Morally bankrupt & corrupt Ass-hats running things now. I’m SO freaking sick of Bush & Co lying and distorting and evading responsibility for ANYTHING they have fucked up…which is just about everything…

Government would be a whole lot more efficient if we just had a Dictator.

This is getting very very scary. Some may have thought the comments about our losing our civil liberties and heading towards fachism a bit over the top have to think again. Lets recap what the adminstration and Republicans in Congress are proposing to do:

The plan is to redefine “unlawful enemy combatant” from someone who is

engaged in hostilities against the United States

    to someone who is

engaged in hostilities or who has purposefully and materially supported hostilities against the United States

“Supported” is a pretty far-reaching term that doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with actual combat. And while this vagueness would be disturbing enough by itself, it’s even worse than it seems because other provisions of the legislation prohibit someone accused of “supporting” hostilities from challenging their detention in U.S. courts — even if the detainee is a U.S. citizen.

ok… so any American Citizen can be declared an “enemy combatant” without any judicial review by any administration (even a Hillary Clinton one) for “supporting” hostilities. They can put you in jail and throw away the key. No hearing. No lawyer. No recourse.

I don’t care if you are right wing.. left wing. liberal or conservative, this should scare the hell out of you. We are letting bin Laden dictate who we are in America. The cowardly bed wetter’s of the republican party are so scared, so piss soaked in their own fear, that they are willing to give the government this sort of unchecked power. Its incredible to me. It is so un-conservative.
I always wondered how a country like Germany, that was well educated and literate could voluntarily turn into what it turned into in the late 30’s and 40’s. I never thought it could happen here. I’m not so sure anymore. No, I am not equating the USA to Nazi Germany, but I can now clearly see the path how a nation goes down that path. .

Don’t worry, even though the Party of Torture (god, I like that name!) is busy eliminating habeus corpus, the Democrats announced today that they won’t be caught up in the “trap” of opposing them and thereby giving them a campaign issue.

Another proud moment in the history of the Democratic Party. I’d be all for serving in the House or the Senate if it wasn’t required that you be castrated first. Damn, that’s got to hurt.

    Signed,

    Jose Padilla

I’d love to hear how Specter defends this. Is his committee chairmanship that precious to him? Absolutely disgusting.

In 2000, if McCain hadn’t been swiftboated out of the primaries and was the choice versus Gore, I would have voted for him in a heartbeat. But I held my nose and voted for Gore (Thank you Jesus!). It was clear even then the job of president was over the head of Bush the little. Who knew then by how much and what a stupid piece of worthless shit he is.

Now? No way in hell I would vote for McCain ever. Like the other spectering “mavericks,” he is selling out his country. For what? The opportunity to show the base before the midterms he can be counted on to join their ranks as a Fluffer for Bush retardation.

McCain is also proving he can be just as stupid as Bush. The base will pat him on his head for his efforts now, then turn their backs on him in two years. They’re not buying him.

Put it in these terms and it MIGHT scare the Party of Torture (it is a very catchy phrase).

A Democrat is elected President (Gore, Hillary, whoever is scarier to them).

They decide that global warming is the biggest threat to our national security.

With this bill anyone driving a gas guzzler would then be “purposefully and materially supported hostilities against the United States”.

Matter of fact you could press the agrument with driving a gas guzzler and international terrorism.

This new move scares the crap out of Andrew Sullivan — who is now routinely, and SERIOUSLY, comparing this administration to the Ministry of Love. (Remember when he enthusiastically supported Bush? And remember all those years in which anyone who dared to suggest that this crew just might grab for dictatorial power if an opportunity presented itself to do so was ridiculed as paranoid, in much the same way that those who said the same thing about Nixon were ridiculed until 1973? Ah, those were the good old days.)
