By the Family Research Council and I want to say Research 2000 survey outfit. The script:
Do you have a favorable opinion of Obama: Yes.
Do you support taxpayer funded abortions: Yes
Do you support cuts of up to 50% in medicare in the Pelosi/Reid/Obama healthcare plan? Yes.
Do you support backroom deals to pass the Pelosi/Reid/Obama healthcare plan. I actually don’t, but I said yes just to screw with their results.
Are you over 50: No.
Is this mobile phone your primary phone: Yes.
Have you ever contributed to a campaign or religious group: Yes.
This poll was funded by the Family Research Council.
It just never stops with these folks. I was not asked if I support adults being spanked by prostitutes while wearing diapers or if my idea of family values included autoerotic asphyxiation while wearing two wetsuits and a dildo inserted in my rectum, but I can understand how these might be touchy subjects for Tony Perkins and the FRC.
DonkeyKong
The correct answer to all those questions is Green Balloons.
Stroszek
Jesus hates the excise tax. It says so right there in the Bible.
RSR
@DonkeyKong: dang it…
RSR
of course, getting push-polled sounds kinda kinky, too. Maybe *that’s* why they’re so fond of the technique.
robertdsc-PowerBook & 27 titles
That’s hot.
Brick Oven Bill
Do you think that Larry Summers sounds exactly like Mongo from Blazing Saddles?:
Yes.
CT Voter
So let me get this straight. Democrats know that people don’t actually know about what’s in it for them (in HCR), and it’s a conservative whackjob organization that’s doing the push-polling and will use the results to further propagandize this issue?
Heckuva job, Dems. Each day, you demonstrate another way to drop the ball.
I just got a solicitation from the DNC for money. I wrote in magic marker “Not one dime until HCR is accomplished” and mailed it back.
Napoleon
John was that the entire script or was it proceeded by questions on how often you vote, if you are registered, what party, etc. and then perhaps straight polling questions? If so it could have been entirely legit. If a poll is being run by a candidate or partisan outfit it will run as a straight poll but if they they want to try out the effectiveness of a line of attack they will end with it. That does not make it a push poll (and since only 1500 or so people will get it it does not do much to push anything)
If what you wrote was basically the whole poll then it was a push poll and it would have gone out to perhaps tens of thousands.
licensed to kill time
Sounds like a pushmi-pollyou
I had to stretch for that one……
DougJ
A friend of mine just got push polled about the birth certificate issue. At least I think it was a push poll — she said the phrasing of the question wasn’t “Do you believe Obama was born in Kenya” but “Are you aware there is evidence Obama was born in Kenya” or something like that.
CT Voter
@DougJ: Sounds like someone’s sensing blood in the water.
Again, heckuva jobs, Dems.
John Cole
@Napoleon: Oh, it was a push poll, that is why I titled this post that way. And yes, that was the whole script.
Tax Analyst
That’s OK, John. They probably figured you misunderstood the questions and changed your answers to get them right anyway.
Napoleon
If that is the script that is definitely a push pole. Nice an quick so the robocall machine can get to the next person and regardless of how people answer it it gives the “pollster” no useful information (heck that is even true if you just take the questions in isolation, if it wasn’t a push the question would be “would you be more, less or just as likely to vote for X if you were told that he had cheated on his wife).
I only ask because I routinely see people describe any poll that tries out an attack as a push poll and it drives me crazy.
Bob In Pacifica
Now I know where my elderly mom got the meme that the Dems were planning on cutting Medicare.
Jackmormon
If there were ONE articulable “Pelosi/Reid/Obama healthcare plan” I seriously doubt we’d be in the mess we’re in now.
The Republic of Stupidity
Whoa… now… THAT’S change I can believe in!
SenyorDave
Where are the ads by Dems trumpeting the fact that if HCR passes people won’t have to worry about losing their insurance for any of a variety of reasons?
The Republic of Stupidity
@Bob In Pacifica:
So… now the GOOPers/conservatives are DEFENDING Medicare?
Things just keep getting stranger and strangerer around here.
Yutsano
I’m trying to figure out if this is funny, sad, or pathetic. At any rate it’s certainly bizarre. Did you mention at the end that Jesus spent the vast majority of his ministry healing the sick and tending to the poor? Or was it a robocall?
MTmofo
Research 2000 is the outfit the GOS uses, so I don’t think they would be involved with this.
Third Eye Open
Do you think B.O.B. has only one testicle, enraging him, leaving him little choice but to bite the heads off of small animals while at the same time stuffing organ-meats into his pantaloons?
Yes
slag
I’m surprised they didn’t ask when you stopped beating your wife.
Quiddity
Do you support the death panels which are in the Pelosi/Reid/Obama healthcare plan?
Well, do ya?
DougW
Do support prosecuting the Obama Administration for the illegal torture taking place in Gitmo?
Ranger 3
@DougW: Illegal? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Incertus
Thanks. Because I needed that image in my head for the rest of the night. Where’s that damn bottle of Jim Beam? (Don’t judge me on my brand–it’s left over from my last party and my income tax refund hasn’t gotten here yet so I can’t afford any good stuff.)
The Grand Panjandrum
@MTmofo: Yea, R2000 is a reputable outfit I seriously doubt they would want to ruin their reputation by doing push polling for anyone.
Q: Does Brick Oven Bill sound like Bobby in Deliverance?
A: Weeeeee!
Shell
Speaking of rectums, which one did they pull that figure out of?
Hmmm. Pushme-Pullyou. Wasn’t that the two headed llama in the ‘Doctor Doolittle’ books?
DougL (frmrly: Conservatively Liberal)
@Shell:
Yep, and as a kid my teacher couldn’t tell me how it pooped. I know, I asked. Everyone else in the class laughed along with me when I asked…lol!
Dang kids…
Platonicspoof
I think I just got insulted, since Lieberman knows this won’t pass.

Perhaps a balloon juice fundraiser to pay for such a poll. Maybe set up an organization called the Family Research Company (FRC)?
That would be fun?
Do you approve or disapprove of your senator engaging in auto-erotic asphyxiation?
Do you approve or disapprove of your senator insert a “dildo” into his rectum?
Do you approve or disapprove of your senator engaging in the previously noted activities while wearing a wetsuit?
Do you approve or disapprove of your senator wearing a diaper while being spanked by a prostitute?
Do you currently engage in any of the above activities? Have you ever engaged in any of the above activities?
Are you older than 50%?
Do you plan on voting for Republican Senator “X”?
This poll is funded by the Tony Perkins Family Research Company.
:-)
Binky
I just got the same pushpoll, with a Morgantown cell phone number. Answered the same way.
Dave Anderson
I got the same “poll” from FRC this afternoon as well. The pollster was some entity called Survey 2010. And John’s script is better than the one I gisted out at the http://www.newshoggers.com
x
Dang. I didn’t know _Grasshopper_ was a wingnut.
pantherq
The mobile phone question is the one that they will use to discard the results of your survey. BTW.
LongHairedWeirdo
Hold on – who’s wearing the diapers, the prostitutes or the clients? Or are you supposed to put on diapers to see if that changes your position?
I’m confused….
Beej
I can one-up you, John. I got a call the other day, apparently to ask my opinion of the public health care option. This is how the caller asked the first question:
You would agree, wouldn’t you, ma’am, that a government-run health care system would be the wrong way to reform health care?
My answer: No. I think that the only possible way to get insurance companies to lower their premiums to any reasonable level is to have competition from a public option.
The caller then hung up.
If most polling is being done using this kind of leading question, then it’s no wonder poll results are all over the place. Good grief, I’ve had high school students who could frame a poll question more objectively than that. Is this what polling has become? We don’t care whether results are accurate so long as they reflect our political agenda?
