Give ‘em enough thread

There have been a number of requests for an open thread. This video seems appropriate given the events of the last few days and my own musical predilections:

If you want to complain, please scan in the appropriate documents.

I watched Alan Grayson on Bill Maher. How come the Dems aren’t getting him to run for senator? I think he’d give the Repubs a run for their money. Also too, I think Gary Shandling is doing some illegal substances if you catch my drift. Still very very funny.

Is that from some Star Trek epdisode? Aliens take over the behavior of the crew, is it from that one?

And the Yankees bring in Rivera while McCarver masturbates furiously. Christ I’m sick of that.

@madmommy: SERIOUSLY. And look at how her two-different colored dress coordinates with the tights legs and the sh—- wait, no stop myself—footwear! Two different colored “footwears”! FAN-TAS-TiQUE.

He’s pretty good and he did a fine job with Mahr which is not a simple thing to do. I’m a pretty smart guy and pretty hard core, but going up against Mahr unscripted would scare me.

And Billy’s outfit-is that a white belt, or just a stripe? Either way, it is sixties-tastic!

Judging from the exorbitant level of crazy from that post, he’s going to be busy for a while! That thread was the funniest thing I’ve read in quite a while. It was an honor to merely observe the trollery and responses thereto.

    @AhabTRuler:
Ha! I have one, and there is plenty funny about a six year old. When I first saw the video from the Great Balloon Debacle yesterday, I knew immeidately that: a) that kid was not in the balloon. No way that thing could lift a kid, nor could that basket hold a kid. b)the older brothers were in on it, either by hiding the youngest, or putting him up to messing with the balloon in the first place. As a mom of little boys, these are things I just knew.

To find out that hours were wasted following this balloon floating across the sky was just amazing!

That was my first thought also, just from having grown up with younger brothers. What we did not know, then, was that Daddy also has a mental age of approximately twelve.

The sublime part was finding out that CNN decided to double down today by playing the 911 tapes!

Now you’ve done it… I have all of the necessary documents… but they are all… in long form… and my scanner… is a shortbed scanner. I could scan them… in two parts… and then Photoshop them together… but then you will just allege that the whole document is a forgery.

You knew  that this would happen… you commie liebrul…! Oh, right… No complaints… without the necessary documents. Please see above…

Ah, the glorious Fifth Dimension, one of the great underrated pop ensembles of their day… and they still sound amazingly groovy, even now. Hell, they were the living embodiment of the word “groovy.” Did you know that they were originally conceived as a black version of The Mamas and the Papas?

Amazingly enough, this was on the very first album I ever bought (Age of Aquarius) when I was about 10 yrs old. I think it was because of Marilyn(hotness!)
    Fortunately, I moved on.

We were required to memorize the Declaration of Independence in order to pass 7th grade. Seriously, you could have a straight A average up to that point, but if you couldn’t recite the Declaration, you were stuck in 7th for another year.

Thank you, 5th Dimension, for releasing me from the hell of Lincoln Jr. High.

DougJ’s post is exactly why I hate youtube putting the title on top of every video.

As it used to be, you could lead a person into a video, as Doug does here, and the person had to actually play the video to find out it’s meaning and connection to the topic at hand. It added mystery and surprise, and in this particular case, humor to every youtube link.

    Now?

That mystery and surprise is gone. And youtube just got one less click on their site.

Don’t get me wrong, I still l think the humor in Doug’s post is there, it just used to be all that more effective before the titles on top.

Sully has a interesting post up.

The maddening thing about reading Hayek is that I come away thinking, “If only leftists had a proper understanding of economics and society, they would stop their infernal meddling and let people be about the business of living productive lives.”
Then I think that perhaps I’m being just as muddle-headed as I think leftists are. Admittedly, I was a leftist before I read any economics, but maybe I read the wrong kind. Maybe there’s some whole other set of thinking and philosophy out there that will bring a right-thinking person to a leftist point of view.
This got me wondering what books thoughtful leftists and small-c conservatives/small-l libertarians might recommend to one another.

I can recommend these—Winter and Nelson—An Evolutionary Theory of Economic Change
Dosi—Innovation, Market Organization and Economic Dynamics: Selected Essays
I think…..the right/left breakdown on book recommendations would segregate into tradition(conservative) vs technology(liberal)......

I saw them live in the 60’s at Disneyland before they’d made it big. They were just great in the eyes of a nine year old kid who heard nothing but freaking Lawrence Welk at home.

Yeah, I know. It ruins a lot of things.
