    I sometimes think that these wacko congress-critters actually believe their armed rebellion rhetoric, even though they’d have been calling for the arrest and summary execution of anyone on the other side of the spectrum who’d said that just a year ago.

    I can’t help but think, seeing things like this, that the far right this year is really aimed with laser-like focus on defeating the priorities of the far left. And the ostensible far left isn’t really doing a lot to defend– instead, it’s aimed with laser-like focus on defeating the priorities of the center left.

    I mean, the things Bachmann et al are saying may be patently ridiculous, but that doesn’t mean some part of them won’t stick. At some point the national dialogue is going to swing around to noneconomic issues, and I’m afraid that when this finally happens the Democrats will discover that somehow sometime while they weren’t paying attention carbon reduction has been transformed into an "energy tax" and card check has been transformed into "eliminate the secret ballot" and …

    Sometimes I wonder if Bachmann isn’t afflicted by some sort of unusual mental illness.

    We’ve all experienced those moments while speaking in public where what we say seems to be independant of what we’re thinking-our words just pop out and make their own sentences. Bachmann is an example of what it would be like to be doing that all the time.

Bachmann would be among the foremost in demanding that the speaker, the speaker’s family, and everyone living within 10 miles of the speaker’s home who wasn’t on Redstate’s mailing list be sent to Gitmo, preferably in time for a photo-op on the evening news.

    The real difference, of course, is that the American right wing already has multiple *demonstrated* ties to domestic terrorism, and idiots like Bachmann yammering code words only encourages the sad sociopaths to mistake cheap political posturing for a mandate to murder real people — usually innocent bystanders.

    Less every day, I think. For the madness that is the daily news cycle to work, the executive has to contribute some fuel. So far Obama is cruising above that. I just hope to the SFM that people can get used, once again, to an executive that thinks in terms of months and years, and not 24 hour news cycles. We’ll see about that.

I can’t speak for the rest of the community but the college consists mostly of the the spoiled children of rich fucks from around the twin cities who shouldn’t have graduated high school.     I live in her district. It’s the northern suburbs of the MSP area, running up to St. Cloud. It’s a conservative district where the majority of people actually do believe her crap. It’s infuriating. (It’s doubly infuriating that I am less than a half mile from the border of the district.)

    And no, I’ve not voted for her, and given money to both of her opponents. Not that they’ve had a snowball’s chance, even with her big mouth.

I could be wrong, but I am willing to give the woman the benefit of the doubt at this point, because the alternative would be well too nasty to contemplate.
