So you don’t subscribe to Rush Limbaugh’s “I hope he fails” school of thought?
That was a terrible thing to say. I mean, he’s the president of all the country. If he succeeds, the country succeeds. And if he doesn’t, it hurts us all. Anybody who would pull against our president is not exactly thinking rationally.
That was Pat Roberston…
TheHatOnMyCat
Republican governors are supporting the stimulus.
The collapse of the Republican coalition is on track.
The Congressional GOP has sawed off the ice and is floating out to sea as we speak.
Buh bye!
MeDrewNotYou
How is it that the Repubs had a monopoly on patriotism? Does it tie into those Southern patriots and their ‘War of Northern Aggression?’
Fuck them for saying opposing the president was aiding the enemy. Fuck them with sandpaper dildoes in every orifice.
Singularity
Limbaugh will pragmatically ignore this slight, Robertson will fail to repeat it, and it will sink into the media ether as if it were never uttered.
Republicans fail at everything but message discipline.
Zifnab25
So what do we get when we are done? A fundie party on one end and the anti-tax party on the other? The falt line seems to be between Huckabee and Ron Paul. I just don’t know if either of them can exist alone.
This looks like a tiff to me. The theocons and the corpcons can break up today. But they’ll need each other tomorrow.
JL
Today on hot air you can also read how Obama waited 4 days before signing the stimulus bill. If the bill was urgent, he should have signed it immediately.
Last week on hot air you could have read that Obama broke a campaign pledge by not waiting 5 days to sign the bill.
My head is spinning.
EdTheRed
"No one is smarter than Rush."
Incertus
Robertson calling you nuts is like the Taliban saying you don’t respect women’s rights enough. Wow.
bootlegger
@Singularity: Actually, The Great (Fat) One is claiming he was quoted out of context and that he would never wish the president to fail. Um, dittos?
The Other Steve
I’m surprised he’s blaming Pelosi. The latest meme is that this is all Harry Reid’s bill, as it includes $8 billion for a train from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.
Common Sense
Currently Rush is quite excited about a police force that had to put a chimp down after the animal went nuts. He’s managed to blithely skip right past Pattycake’s critique.
And yeah, Rush’s defense literally consists of "I wasn’t wishing for the country to fail, I was wishing for these policies to fail." Apparently this is completely different than hoping our former President’s policies failed in Iraq. That type of criticism equals treason.
Comrade Dread
Pat Robertson has the rare occasional moment of sanity, as long as the subject isn’t the State of Israel, earthquakes, or hurricanes.
Lev
Shouldn’t it worry Republicans when Pat Robertson is now the Republican voice of sanity? It sure scares the hell out of me.
Xecky Gilchrist
Robertson said that just now, not in 2004? Crazy.
libarbarian
Ill give him points for consistency.
Charity
@Comrade Dread:
Pat, like the Republican governors, has his eye on the collection plate. I’m sure his contributions have gone down as people lose their jobs and homes. (All kinds of charitable giving is down these days, which sucks as there has never been greater need.)
scarshapedstar
Pat said that it was a terrible and stupid thing to broadcast to the public… but then so was "Barack The Magic Negro".
Don’t see anything in there about where he actually disagrees with Rush.
jenniebee
Please don’t ever give that more context. It’s a thing of beauty as it stands – it would ruin the effect if it made any sense.
libarbarian
I don’t know. I think they got a winner with the "Obama Girls Sleepover" issue.
Our tax-dollars are being wasted on Pizza and Ice Cream for little girls!!!!
Egilsson
When Pat Robertson is the voice of reason in that political party…. it kind of leaves you speechless about the state of the republican party.
I don’t understand why media guys aren’t ambushing republicans talking crap about democratic fiscal policies with these charts showing how badly republicans have done applying their little theories v. how democrats have done.
That would be great TV, so you’d think they bite.
Stooleo
Why does Rush Limbaugh hate America?
Brien Jackson
I think the problem here is people viewing Rush Limbaugh as some sort of political actor. He’s not; he’s a money machine. He’s out for ratings, because ratings mean more money. So to that end, the more outrageous and offensive the comment the better, because that keeps his name in the larger political media, and keeps him "relevant" to the discussion. But that’s not really anything of a political point, and on some level I’d venture that Rush both doesn’t really mean it and votes a straight ticket Democratic ballot. Rather, it’s all about Rush’s paycheck.
passerby
In my view, Joe Scarborough is the biggest dick on TV.
But this morning I caught this clip (about 17 min.) of Brezinski on Morning Joe (sans Mika) discussing the economy, Afghanistan and Palistine. Pat Buchanan was also at the table.
I was struck how more deferential Joe and Pat were when discussing issues with someone who actually knew what he was talking about. No "stunningly superficial" spewage, Joe and Pat were respectful and properly cowed.
It reminded me of Krugman shutting down the "stunningly superficial" opining from the panel on This Week when Donaldson, Cokie and G Will were attempting to hold forth with their business as usual bullshit a couple of weeks ago. Their ignorance was so obvious.
I wish for more of this type of intelligent discourse. Brezinski’s ideas and opinions were informative to say the least.
Darius
The comments on Hot Air are priceless. How quickly they turn on anyone who dares criticize their Dear Leader Rush…
Comrade Dread
He’d probably enjoy theagitator blog with the regular tales of cops blowing away beloved family pets often for just barking at them.
DougJ
This doesn’t really surprise me. Robertson is a full-time nut only a part-time asshole. That practically makes him a RINO in today’s climate.
Michael D.
John: I LOVE this caption on a White House Photo!!
It is Photo 4 of 23. Ha!
Punchy
And Dems own the Senate
And Dems own the House
And Dems own the White House
And Matt Fucking Lauer chooses to interview Karl Rove for an opinion on the StimPak. Can somebody please telephone NBC and let them know who fucking won the fucking election?
TheHatOnMyCat
@Punchy:
Well, they only care who will watch NBC during the day. That’s mostly the cheetoh eaters in South Carolina and rural Missouri.
John S.
I almost expect Robertson to wake up in the morning with the severed head of one of Limbaugh’s prized Panamanian prostitutes (alliteration!) lying next to him.
Doesn’t he realize you never go against the family?
Face
An 8 year old boy’s head probably aint that big. He wouldnt even notice.
TheHatOnMyCat
@Michael D.: Thanks for posting that.
Sonofagun. That slide show just brought goose bumps.
We did a good thing, kids. Electing this guy.

Photo #17 on that slideshow is a picture from Air Force One that makes me want to go to there.
I think if I were elected president, I could meet a hundred heads of state and it would never truly hit me what a big time job I had until I went into my office on a plane.
TenguPhule
That’s like asking Pol Pot for his opinion on human services.
Dave S.
I am putting those remarks down to inertia from the Bush years, but I also have to note Robertson’s conflating of Presidential success with national success. Defining Presidential success as "getting stuff the President wants done," which I think is reasonable, Bush was a highly successful President, but look where we are as a nation.
Mike in NC
When will somebody put Rush down so that his job can then go to a deserving unemployed chimp? And who would know the difference when that happened?
Joshua Norton
I stopped watching Today right after Chimpy was elected and Al was still fat. It seemed they couldn’t get their head far enough up the Repugs collective asses to satisfy themselves. Between the softball rightie interviews and using the vapid wingnut talking points when they interviewed what few Dems they would book, it wasn’t a very calming way to start the morning.
Never went back. Don’t miss it one bit.
KDP
Just a note about the HotAir people blowing steam because we didn’t get to view the stimulus before sigining:
White House Blog 2/13/2009
From today’s DC Examiner:
article
OK, so we only, technically, got 3 full days to review it before signature, but if you count Friday and today, then that is five days, and it’s far more than we’ve ever seen before with respect to the passage of legislation.
Just saying….
The slideshow was a lovely commentary.
Leelee for Obama
@passerby:
I saw that too and was wondering if maybe I was hearing things, so I re-wound it! Sure enough, the Best Bloviators on Cable were agreeing with Zbig that the Obscene CEOS should have to plow some of their ill-gotten gains into helping save this mess!
Buchanan actually quoted me, sort of. They are Globalists now, so saving the US economy isn’t that high on their list. Perhaps they haven’t noticed the Globe is in Deep S___!
Apocalypse, anyone?
Davebo
In keeping with the new tradition shouldn’t we refer to him as "Pat the Pastor"?
Ed in NJ
What’s funny is that each time someone on their side says anything even remotely critical of Rush or their congressional leadership, they are instantly written off as no longer relevant, or revealed to be a RINO, etc… There really is no room at all for disagreement within their ranks. Look at the beating Frum and Douthat have taken the last couple of days.
AkaDad
Rush Limbaugh clearly has Obama Derangement Syndrome.
Mnemosyne
I know that. You know that. Unfortunately for all of us, though, Republicans seem to think he’s a political prophet who makes a bajillion dollars because he’s just. that. smart. Look at how many Republicans have had to make public apologies because they dared say that maybe Rush doesn’t know what the fuck he’s talking about.
BDeevDad
Hindsight is 20/20. Robertson saw the mainstream reaction to those comments and adjusted course. There is a reason that he still has an empire and other televangelists do not.

@Brien Jackson:
Rush explains his marketing ploy here…

Even when he admits he’s out for ratings it sounds like BS.

"Make of this what you will"
Maybe Robertson is starting to hear the metallic screech of the brakes being applied to his gravy train.
Sirkowski
The Hot Air commenters are really shitting on Robertson like a bunch of arugula latte-sipping islamo atheist liberal communists. IT’S ALL BACKWARDS!!! lol
The Moar You Know
@BDeevDad: Exactly. Robertson is evil and greedy beyond compare, but he is not stupid and knows exactly what he can get away with and when. In the end, it’s all about what ends up in the collection plate. Robertson is never going to fuck with his cashflow.
Google "African Development Company" and you can start to get an idea of what a greedy evil bastard he really is.
BDeevDad
Robertson has to pay attention to the economy. It is affecting his bottom line.
gex
@Mnemosyne: The problem is that the current GOP has cultivated and become dependent on a base of Rush listeners. So it doesn’t matter that Rush isn’t a political actor, his audience is a political demographic. That this demographic chooses to understand the world through Rush’s unhinged-screeds doesn’t help the GOP, but that’s who they wanted to bring to the dance.

Yes, I’m amazed that PRob seems to be one of the few Righties that can read and react to the writing on the wall. Wonder how much hedging he can do to maintain relevance. Those Rs who are bowing out of the arena come 2010 are like Roberts.
What’s abundantly clear to us is more than likely abundantly clear to those who oppose Obama’s agenda, yet, mysteriously, the congressional Rs are behaving like lemmings. They’re running headlong towards their own demise.
Delia
Think of this way: how many fundie Christians are there who are afraid of losing their jobs and their homes (or have already lost them) and don’t really want the country to go down the tubes taking them with them? Now how many nutcase dittoheads are there eating Cheetos in Mom’s basement who want to kill the country to make a point?
Who do you think is on the winning side of history?
jcricket
Apropos of Republican stupidity is this: Aerosmith to GOP, don’t use our song.
Fucking dumbasses.
