I see a number of libs linking to this NBC interview with Mitt Romney:
VIEIRA: So, let me ask you, would you characterize John McCain’s campaign as dignified and honest?
ROMNEY: Well, what I’d characterize the entire campaign as is extraordinarily negative on the part of Barack Obama. […]
VIEIRA: So you think his campaign was dignified?
ROMNEY: Well, I think it’s going to come down to this, and I think that is, who is going to be able to keep America safe and who is it that’s going to add jobs. […]
VIEIRA: Governor, not to beat a dead horse here, but once again, do you believe that the campaign was dignified?
ROMNEY: Was it dignified? It was presidential.
Let me be the first to say “Who cares what Romney thinks?”
A couple quick points:
1.) Democrats and liberal bloggers need to stop paying attention to trivial stuff like this. Who cares what Mitt Romney thinks? Besides, every time you quote these morons, it just gives them an opportunity to play the victim and whine about media bias abd “gotcha” questions. The walkback, if it is deemed necessary, has probably already begun.
2.) Mitt Romney lost to McCain, and this can easily be dismissed as sour grapes.
3.) Mitt Romney wouldn’t know a dignified campaign, anyway. This is Multiple Choice Mitt, who changed his message every day, and, if you remember correctly, was the wingnut choice before Sarah Palin. In fact, he was Sarah Palin before Sarah Palin. Remember this, from CPAC:
ROMNEY: You are with me all the way to the convention. Fight on, just like Ronald Reagan did in 1976.
But there is an important difference from 1976. Today we are a nation at war. And Barack and Hillary have made their intentions clear regarding Iraq and the war on terror: They would retreat, declare defeat.
Screw Mitt Romney. He wouldn’t know grace, honor, or dignity if it bit him on the ass.
El Cid
This is the same idiot a** monkey who was screaming at the Republican Hate America Convention about how we had to get all the damn librul East Coast ay-leets outta Washington, said the son of a Governor and multimillionaire CEO and ex-Governor of Massachusetts.
Jay Andrew Allen
I believe grace, honor and dignity have enough good sense to steer clear of Mitt Romney’s ass.

OT but Obama’s beloved Toot has passed away:

“Who cares what Romney thinks?”
You’re SO not the first to ask that question.

Obama’s grandma died. Aw.

Anyone who thinks "let’s double up on Gitmo" is someone whose opinion, if you hear it, should cause to suspect the opposite is true.

"He wouldn’t know grace, honor, or dignity if it bit him on the ass."
no, but he’d sure be peeved if it messed up his hair.
Thoughtcrime
@satby:
And on the same day (today) the CA Republican Party has filed a lawsuit because Obama used his campaign jet to fly to Hawaii to VISIT HIS CRITICALLY ILL GRANDMOTHER.
The GOP has officially flushed itself down the toilet.
demimondian
The point here is that Gov. Romney wouldn’t express a view. He was asked three times to answer a straightforward question, and he neither refused to answer it nor answered it. Until and unless liberal bloggers start howling about politicians giving that kind of non-answer to a question, nothing will change.

@satby: I have a feeling that a conspiracy theory is going to arise out of the that in approximately the amount of time it would take a second grader to read the article.

Actually, in today’s GOP, being bit on the ass by something qualifies you as probably the greatest expert in the country on the topic of whatever it was that bit you. That’s how Newt Gingrich cured malaria.

The mind boggles!

@Thoughtcrime: Stay classy, GOP.
CIRCVS MAXIMVS MMVIII
After eight years, I have yet to see any of that compassion that the so-called compassionate conservatives say they are all about.
The Pale Scot
Poll alert!; I just recieved a wingnut email about a PBS poll on whether "Do you think Sarah Palin is qualified to serve as Vice President of the United States? "

The day before the election. Sucks.
LiberalTarian
I have been wondering how we can not just beat them during the election, but marginalize them for the next 100 years.
Any ideas?
The Moar You Know
Who the fuck is Mitt Romney?
Oh yeah, the guy who tied his dog to the top of his car and then lost the primary to what is the worst Republican presidential contender since Herbert Hoover.
That guy.
The Moar You Know
@CIRCVS MAXIMVS MMVIII: You went to the wrong college. The "compassion" in "Compassionate Conservatism" is telling the chick you just date-raped that you love her so she won’t call the cops.
CIRCVS MAXIMVS MMVIII
Saying "Get over it" for eight years sure sounds tempting. ;)

Great Poll info from Fox this afterrnoon. (And good news for Romney, although he’s as execrable as Palin.)
Fox Poll Results — Vice Presidential Candidates
More Americans would be comfortable with Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden stepping in as president if it were to become necessary than with Republican Sarah Palin. Nearly half (47 percent) say they would be "extremely" or "very" comfortable with Biden and 51 percent would be uncomfortable. For Palin, 32 percent would be "extremely" or "very" comfortable if she had to step in and serve as president and 67 percent would be uncomfortable.
Among independents, 43 percent would be comfortable with Biden and 28 percent with Palin.
Three of four Democrats (74 percent) would be comfortable with Biden as president. For comparison, 62 percent of Republicans would be comfortable with Palin stepping in as president.
A 56 percent majority has a favorable opinion of Biden and 37 percent unfavorable.
Palin now has an overall negative rating, as slightly more voters have an unfavorable view of her (49 percent) than have a favorable one (45 percent). Looking back at results among registered voters from the time of Palin’s announcement to today, her positive rating has dropped by 8 points, while her negative rating has increased by 20 points.
Tsulagi
Would think people would be saying the same about Sarah six months from now. Cue Condi: “No one could ever have predicted what a massive joke Palin would be.” Condi needs to get one right before she leaves.
You would think the GOP would be content to let her quietly go back to Alaska and task her with keeping her eyes on Alaskan skies for Putin’s plane for a long, long time.
But then, never underestimate the stupid that just seems to be genetic in our wingnut class. RS Moe a few days ago made a sage prediction Palin would be a major player in Pub politics for the next 20 years. As with Condi, I hope he’s finally got one right.
Palin/Joe the Plumber in 2012! With Tito the Builder as chief campaign strategist on the You Betcha Express bus, how could they possibly lose?
Gus
I think they’re doing a grand job without our help. The thing to do is govern better.
Comrade Stuck
What Mitt Who? Oh, that Mitt Who, who strapped his mutt to the car roof.
CIRCVS MAXIMVS MMVIII

I wondered where that compassionate conservatism is, since I’d never seen it in the last eight years, and all of a sudden I get a taste of it, finally…
John and Cindy McCain deliver a condolence message to the Obamas over the loss of Barack’s grandmother.
I fully expected to hear a dig in it, and didn’t. WOW! I’m amazed.
smiley
@satby:
I remember when my first grandparent died. My mother’s father. I was in my mid 30’s and hadn’t cried, as best as I could remember, since I was a child. The morning of his funeral, I sobbed, sitting on the floor of his shower in my grandparents house, like a baby. I have been crying ever since. I cry at the unexpected sight of a tree in beautiful Fall foliage. I cry about the tragity of Darfur. I cried to the Yes We Can video. I cry when my Gators lose (OK, just kidding about that one). I’m crying now. Thanks Pap for making me a more complete human being.
Barack Obama has had many more reasons to cry than I ever have. The abandonment by his father, the death of his father, the much-too-early death of his mother, the death of his grandfather, now this… If we live long enough we will all have these moments. I will, like all of us, have a very difficult time when my parents pass, or if one of my siblings or their offspring go before me.
Peace to the Obama family and to all of you.
Comrade Stuck
The first joke about Obama’s grandma and under the bus I hear from the party of family values, I’m a gonna reach through the intertubes and strangle myself a wingnut.
BH-Buck
Smiley, that was well said. And thank you.
CIRCVS MAXIMVS MMVIII
Uhhhh, Oh God, I can’t believe I’m thinking this:
Grant Park (I believe that’s the name): is Barack safe there for his acceptance speech? There are highrises nearby, what’s to stop someone from putting a bullet through him?
OMG! Anyone from Chicago here that can give me a calming perspective on this?
Gaucho Politico
the only point to talking about that interview was a mild interest in the posturing for 2012. Mitt wanted to avoid being caught on record with a positive endorsement of palin or mccain at this point in the
train wreckcampaign. Mitt wont win in 2012 either because the gop will still hate Mormons. if he wants to win the south he has to ditch LDS.Laura W
@smiley: Now I’m crying. That was very moving, smiley. Much like the hanging racoon yesterday in a thread, the post above re. the lawsuit re. taking the campaign plane to Hawaii just makes me want to spontaneously combust in shame and pain for our species. ("our" said begrudgingly. Although I can really be a beeyotch, so best not throw too many flames there.)
I was musing over the timing of Toot’s death as I was doing creative things and like many before me have said…you can’t make this shit up. Can you imagine a screenplay about Obama’s life and campaign wherein the white woman from Kansas who took a bi-racial grandson into her heart and home and raised him when he was a freakin’ teen no less…dies ONE DAY before he is elected first black Prez by a landslide? Even Tom Hanks would pass on that one.
I’m glad I have somewhere I promised to be tomorrow at noon. I’m afraid I might just stay in my PJs, stare out windows, drink, and alternate between euphoria and despair for the next 24 hours. Almost to the minute, huh?
John, will you be live/drunk blogging from Chicago?
Fulcanelli
@Comrade Stuck: Better steer clear of Our Lady of Perpetual Outrage’s pus filled pixel den… Ugly.
Napoleon
And how many of them have windows that open? Grant Park is a bit of a ways from any buildings. It would be nothing like the shots Lee Harvey Oswald or James Earl Ray were able to take.
gopher2b
I work on Grant Park in one of the high rises. They are all very far from where the rally is going to be and I can’t imagine anyone would be allowed on roofs. So you would have to gain access to actual offices (which would be nearly impossible) and you would have to be a professional sniper with a high powered rifle to do anything. Not goin happen.
Plus, someone closed my blinds the other day and I don’t know who is was. Very weird.
Anyway, he will be fine.
Notorious P.A.T.
Oh come on, it’s all over the place. America compassionately blew up thousands of Iraqis so they couldn’t be murdered by Saddam Hussein. We compassionately saved hundreds of frozen embryoes from being used in life-saving stem-cell research (they will be tossed in the trash instead). We compassionately shut down the government to make a law applying to one person and one person only, Terri Schiavo, who needed to be saved from being allowed to finish dying.
It’s exhausting to show so much compassion.
Laura W
@Notorious P.A.T.: I know I’m really new here compared to most of you, but if it’s not too presumptuous, I’d like to say:
FTW.
zic
I’ve seen Mitt Romney be honest and genuine once. That’s when he spoke of the labs in Cambridge, MA where there were "racks and racks of human life," and the you could see the honest offense he took to it. It was when I could see how his Mormon beliefs would shape his presidency every bit as much as Palin’s Pentecostal beliefs would shape her time in office.
Hang a prayer flag that neither reaches high national office; science and education cannot bear it.
Delia
Just let them keep blabbering. And holding their little Reich rallies. That should do it.
CIRCVS MAXIMVS MMVIII
gopher2b and Napoleon, thank you.
Notorious P.A.T. – that had win all over it. ;)
Added: somehow I thought compassion would look a bit different.
TheHatOnMyCat
The Secret Service has been pretty skilled and adept at handling the highrise problem. I’m a lot more worried about some nut in a crowd than I am about a sniper.
Unfortunately, there is the Hinckley Lesson, which is, if someone really wants to shoot somebody else, it’s pretty hard to make that impossible without putting the protectee in an isolated bubble.
I already cringe when I see Barack go to the crowd lines. I am going to cringe every time I see it from now on.
jenniebee
But he’s a blue star father! His sons served this country by driving around Iowa in a motor home!1!!
How many of you have given that much? Huh? HUH?
gopher2b
I must admit that this concerns me far more than a sniper (too movie like). I’m also a little worried about an organized attack because everyone has know for weeks where he will be that night. Still, the tickets only went out to people who were already signed up on their mailing list and they are non-transferable (I HAVE ONE!!!). Plus, the Chicago PD know what they are doing and the Secret Service REALLY know what they are doing. I’m not worried. Although, if but for the grace of god, Obama wins the popular vote by 10 million and loses the electoral college, I’m jumping in the lake and swimming to Michigan.

we should be vigilant with respect to Mitt the Nit.
I’ll say this, as a person who is fully aware with and respects Goodwin’s Law: Mitt Romney is the closest that an American politician has ever come to fascism.
I know people use the "f" word lightly these days, for example, in relation to some of Mrs. Palin’s rallies. She is no; populist peasants have risen at times in history, but mostly as short-lived flashes in the pan.
The history of fascism is one of corporatism, money and organization: all things that Romney showed to be fluent in. To top it off, he belongs to the wealthiest, most organized, and most hateful sect in the world, who have shown this election their healthy appetite to control the political process (Prop 8).
Finally, Romney has demonstrated the unmistakable Goebels-like rhetoric of fanning the flames of fear and resentment that can only be addressed by the firm, steady hand of unchecked power and concentration camps:
So by all means, let’s ridicule and laugh at this gnat, but, please do not dismiss him. If the depression continues into 2012, Mitt Romney will be the absolute nightmare for this world.
