Another GOP outrage, this time Dana Rohrabacher discussing our behavior in Gitmo:
ROHRABACHER: They seem like more like pranks, hazing pranks from some fraternity than some well-thought-out policy of how do you torture someone and get information from them. […]
I will have to tell you, when most people hear the word “torture,” which has been bandied around here, I don’t believe that they think of it as holding a growling dog near somebody but not the growling dog — you know, it’s one thing to have the growling dog eating someone’s leg or arm versus — which is absolute torture. It’s another thing to have a growling dog around, or putting panties on someone’s head, or discussing — telling him he had repressed homosexual tendencies in his presence. I mean, I’m sorry, these are acts of humiliation.
First, can we get Sen. McMavericky “Torture Is Wrong” Straight talk Express on the record on this?
Second, the Republican platform and brand has already been repeatedly described as toxic the last few months, and it appears that just isn’t good enough for some of these wingnuts. Apparently they want to really push the limit, and I suspect that torture and violations of the Geneva Convention will not be enough to prove how tough we are, and by November these jackasses will be running on a platform of child rape and puppy murder.

Perhaps she would like a demonstration of what it would be like to have a viscious dog snapping at you, inches from your face while you’re hands are tied and then go through it a couple of times a week for several years.

Oh good, I’m not the only one questioning the effectiveness of the radical new interrogation technique “Tell us what you want or we’ll call you a fag”.
Why do I get the feeling that the idea for waterboarding started when someone suggested we give the terrorists a swirly?

Apparently GOP-ers really enjoy gay stuff at their frat parties.
It’s all they seem to talk about.

Now, now. Child rape is one thing. To paraphrase:
It’s another thing to have an erect penis around a little kid, or putting your panties on kids head, or telling a child your repressed homosexual fantasies.
(Wow. Being a Republican is easy! And, uh… gross. Bring out the wetsuits!)

Cain –
Sorry to disappoint, but Dana Rohrabacher is a man.
In his younger days, he was quite the anarchist, too. I don’t have any idea why he changed for the worse, but he did.
Has anyone seen the Wired story about McCain’s campaign saying pretty much “yeah, that whole warrantless wiretapping of Americans that Bush wants? We’re just fine with that.”
Jay B.
cain,
Dana’s no she in fact, he’s one of the butchest douchebags in all the Congress. He fought with the muj, dude!
Or to hear him tell it. Just don’t tell him that bin Laden was on his side back then.
Of course, the real funny part is that being in Gitmo — often without having charges against you, having no contact with other humans, no lawyer and literally no hope that anyone will ever know what happens to you — is torture unto itself.
Good thing they’re also being humiliated with snarling dogs. I’m sure they’ll laugh about that someday.

McCain has already weighed in on this sort of thing. Here’s what his new comm deputy chief said when the torture story broke:

Oh, as always, McCain would be the first to make sure you heard he was on record against torture.
Then far less publicly also be the first to deep throat the unitary executive when he says he has a finding that the wartime president supercedes the law or Geneva Conventions. Or like when Tard asked McCain to gut his own anti-torture legislation in 05 when it had veto-proof margins. The “maverick” McCain has been Bush’s go-to buttboy in Congress on torture.

Dana Whorebacker often falls into the rhetorical pattern of three belches and a lip fart.
Jess
Exactly. No one ever seems to be called upon to explain WHY we would be doing these “frat pranks.” At least torture is for a useful and possibly necessary purpose (I’m not claiming that, just noting that that argument could be made). If it is just petty humiliations and severe discomfort, but not to the point that someone is going to confess to a plot to blow up the white house, then what’s the point? As Americans, shouldn’t we be above such sordid nastiness? If it’s torture, we shouldn’t do it. If it’s not torture, we shouldn’t do it either. There’s really no justification no matter how you slice it.

Rohrbacher has a credible Democratic opponent this year, Debbie Cook, the mayor of Huntington Beach.

This guy needs to be “invited” to The Frat Party and undergo a little something we call The Rubber Hose Treatment.
No need to worry, just a little hazing is all.
Oh, the laughs we shall have!

These things are not human. Nor do they deserve to be treated as such.
OriGuy
Yeah, and somebody dies in a fraternity hazing every year or so, too.

It’s my understanding that the Abu Grahib photo of the terrified prisoner facing the dog was taken moments before the dog attacked him. I regret that the only reference I have is my very imperfect memory, but I believe I heard this in a Fresh Air interview that Terry Gross did several weeks ago with someone who wrote a book about the Abu Grahib scandal.

and by November these jackasses will be running on a platform of child rape and puppy murder.
This would have provided quite a spectacle early on in the primaries, with Faux News providing behavioral experts to tell us which candidates were sincere puppy murderers, and which poseurs were just going through the motions, and threads on RedState mocking “crazy old Ron Paul” for daring to question the morality and logic of child rape/puppy murder. We ARE talking about the “Christians” who loudly booed the man for pointing out that Jesus is the Prince of Peace. And to think some of them are concerned that Bob Barr and Chuck Baldwin will “steal” votes from McManiac. That presumes there are actually some small-government, pro-Bill of Rights, anti-preemptive war conservatives left among the thrity-percenters.
It’s high time the Republican Party went the way of the Whigs they supplanted. McVain is just the guy to finish them off. I don’t like your guy Obama but I think he’d do less damage than McCain would, if for no other reason than that an Obama presidency would remind fuhrerprinzip Republicans of the virtues of limited government and separation of powers. Lately I enjoy watching the little beads of sweat that form on the foreheads of thirty-percenters when I ask them what a LIBERAL DEMOCRAT might do with warrantless wiretaps and the power to declare any American a “terrorist” and lock him up indefinitely without trial, charges, or access to counsel.
