Spidey sense this is fake. She was wearing a different top at the in-person meetings.

I am not going to expend a lot of time on Melania either way. She is not responsible for executing Trump’s miserable policies.
Also, I resist this entire use of Melania and Ivanka as maternal figures. It’s too much like the role of matrons in ancient Rome. Little formal power, but allowed to appeal to the emperor and to work behind the scenes on behalf of supplicants. Even if she means well, she will end up being exploited by her husband and his vile ministers.

I’m particularly proud of the whole “She won’t go to the tent cities because the weather is bad. But it’s totally cool for young kids to LIVE in those tents during bad weather… that the First Lady won’t even go look at. Because the weather would be too awful, you see.”

While out walking in my neighborhood, I sometimes drop in a small grocery store that caters to the Latino population (the main signs are in Spanish, lots of products from Mexico, etc.). So here is my question to the esteemed readership of this blog: What would you fill your Trump pinata with? Candy? Horse shit? Leave it empty to represent all of those empty promises?

Any other FLOTUS would have known better. “Country music of the late 1960s and early 1970s was a powerful symbol of staunch conservative resistance to the emerging counterculture. But starting around 1972, the city of Austin, Texas became host to a growing community of musicians, entrepreneurs, journalists, and fans who saw country music as a part of their collective heritage and sought to merge it with countercultural ideals to forge a distinctly Texan counterculture. Progressive country music-a hybrid of country music and rock-blossomed in this growing Austin community, as it played out the contradictions at work among its residents. The music was at once firmly grounded in the traditional Texan culture in which they had been raised, and profoundly affected by their newly radicalized, convention-flouting ways.In Cosmic Cowboys and New Hicks: The Countercultural Sounds of Austin’s Progressive Country Music Scene, Travis Stimeling connects the local Austin culture and the progressive music that became its trademark. He presents a colorful range of evidence, from behavior and dress, to newspaper articles, to personal interviews of musicians. Along the way, Stimeling uncovers parodies of the cosmic cowboy image that reinforce the longing for a more peaceful way of life, but that also recognize an awareness of the muddled, conflicted nature of this counterculture identity. “

All she had to do was stay away in NYC or VA or MD or wherever. Life her best life with her son, her parents, and her pool boy or security guard lover or whatever. That’s all she had to do.

Hell, the commentariat went nuts for three days when she wore a blouse with a “pussy” bow at the debate right after the Access Hollywood tape was released, or whether the big white hat she wore during the Macrons’ visit this spring was a way to keep Donald at a distance. She chose that $39 jacket deliberately, she wore it in front of the cameras deliberately, and for her spokesbot to now say “Oooh oooh oooh, why are you paying attention to her wardrobe!?!?” is just too coy and cute by half.

Third, the horrible budget that is going to make drastic cuts to Medicare and Medicaid to make rich people richer.

‘Racial profiling at its finest’ | Black doctor says man used SUV to keep her out of her community
The police report indicates that Nnenna Aguocha stated she was attempting to enter the Buckhead townhome community when another property owner stopped her at the gate entrance.

ATLANTA — A Black doctor is upset at a man who she says racially profiled her when he blocked her from entering the community that she has lived in for about eight years.
A part of the nearly 30-minute exchange was captured on camera.
A police report indicates that Nnenna Aguocha stated she was attempting to enter the Buckhead Townhome community after just coming off an overnight shift
when another property owner stopped her at the gate entrance. She said he parked his car under the gate arm and refused to move forward to let her in, despite her repeated requests.
“He got out of the car and threatened to call the police on me because I was trespassing,” she said in the video recording taken at the scene. “This is racial profiling at its finest.”

In general, though, we all have to make choices. They do not have to choose to work for someone who hurts people if they vehemently disagree with that person’s policies. By making the representative’s office run smoothly they are helping that person look competent and professional and help win reelection. I said we all have choices in life and she has chosen to work for someone who wants to hurt old people and vulnerable people. That she should think about where she is and what she has chosen to do and decide for herself if that’s what she wants to support. That she has to live with that choice.

My favourite story about her was after her beloved kitten All Ball was killed by a car. For a long time she was inconsolable with grief, but eventually signed that she was ready to adopt a new kitten.
She selected one and immediately named it “Lipstick” or “Lips” for short. When her trainer asked her why that name, Koko signed that it was because the little kitten had a bright pink nose and mouth, as though she had smeared lipstick all over her muzzle. LOL! I always thought (and still do think) that Koko exhibited some extremely sophisticated cognitive and linguistic abilities with that nomenclature.

Had to tell her that he hated Black people too. I only talk to her about politics when she asks. I decided to not try and sugar-coat Dolt45. I watch the evening lineup of MSNBC pretty much every night. She doesn’t care for Hayes. Really likes Maddow. And, now that she gets how much LarryO despises Dolt45, and that behind his nice tone is a deep hatred of Dolt45, she doesn’t mind watching LarryO’s opening segment with me some days. Before Dolt45, she had no interest in politics.

late to the thread, but… Every once in a while I see a tee-shirt with a funny slogan, usually worn by one of your youths. “I’m not deaf, I’m ignoring you” or something like that. If I owned one of those snarky shirts, I would probably wear it around my house for doing yard work or stuff like that. Cause at fifty, I think my time for wearing that kind of stuff around town has passed. @Calouste: Melanoma claims Slovene, Serbo-Croatian, English, French, German & Italian. Slovene is in fact a separate language, but Serbian/Croatian/Bosnian/Montenegrin are effectively dialects of the same tongue – what used to be called Serbo-Croatian (srpskohrvati, or hrvatosrpski in Croatia). The Croats have been sponsoring the use of some oddball grammatical constructions as justification for Croatian being distinct from Serbian, but in fact the difference between these two main variations is <100 words (e.g., chleb [S] = kruh [Cr], bread), one syllable (-ije- inserted into some Croatian words, e.g., reka [S] => rijeka [Cr], river), and two alphabets (Croatian uses the Roman alphabet with diacritical marks whereas Serbian is customarily written in a Cyrillic similar but not identical to that of Russian).
In the former Yugoslavia (“Land of the South Slavs”) there were 4 main languages in use: Serbo-Croatian, Slovene, Macedonian (claimed as “hillbilly Bulgarian” by, guess who, Bulgarians), and Shqip (Albanian, primarily in Kosovo). /tmi

The federal government never should have been doing it. It was dumb. Their hatred of these people overrode their common sense. It is a no-brainer to leave them with their parents. That way, their parents are responsible for them. You don’t step into the shoes of their parents unless you’re willing to go all the way and do it properly because the moment you took custody they were 100% your responsibility. The Trump people were too dumb to figure out what every county commissioner knows. Baby snatching comes with a HUGE duty- in loco parentis. In the place of.

I walked by my TV-on-mute earlier today and saw Melania The Stiff, sitting like an antique wooden indian while some guy sitting next to her yapped and yapped in her frozen froze. And, by all appearances, he yapped very earnestly. I stared for a while, during which time she did not move a muscle, other than to turn her neck sideways when someone else began to yap at her.
No, indeed, Melania does not care. I’d be willing to bet Yapping Man knew that perfectly well, too. Which made his earnest act all the more laughable. And Melania is made to look all the more stone cold ugly for her pretense.

It’s no Austin, but when my kids’ elementary school did mock presidential elections in 2008 and 2012, Obama won both times. I figure the kids mostly voted based on parental preferences. And the P-ville school district was the first (possibly still the only) in the state to offer benefits like health insurance to domestic partners. Unfortunately, my congressman in this gerrymandered district is the odious Michael McCaul. The district stretches across rural areas nearly all the way to Conroe.

It seems astonishing, but not impossible, that she really doesn’t know. Maybe there’s more evil going on there than we can imagine.

@rikyrah: You’re very welcome. When Rod goes in and gets righteous, it is a thing of beauty.
Ironically a Black journalist and activist that I have been working with on police reform for the past 6 months or so, and who I’ve developed a bit of a friendship with, confessed to being a Stein voter the other day. So disappointing. As a H-white Man, I know it’s not in my lane to give him shit about it, so instead I talked about my frustration with MY people who made that same, unfortunate decision and how they were willing to throw so many Black, Women, Muslim, Trans etc., people under the bus all so they could pat themselves on the back.
