These guys can’t help themselves:
Last year, then-president Barack Obama vetoed a bill that would have curbed the pensions of former presidents if they took outside income of $400,000 or more.
So now that former president Barack Obama has decided to accept $400,000 for an upcoming Wall Street speech, the sponsors of that bill say they’ll reintroduce that bill in hopes that President Trump will sign it.
“The Obama hypocrisy on this issue is revealing,” said Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and sponsor of the 2016 bill. “His veto was very self-serving.”
Chaffetz and Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, the sponsor of the companion Senate bill, say they will re-introduce the Presidential Allowance Modernization Act this month. The bill would cap presidential pensions at $200,000, with another $200,000 for expenses. But those payments would be reduced dollar-for-dollar once their outside income exceeds $400,000.
It’s just a fucking coincidence this happened when we got a black President. It just fucking kills these guys he was President.
And the balls on Chaffetz, who just rushed to have government paid for surgery on a decades old injury before he leaves congress and tomorrow votes to remove pre-existing conditions protections for the rest of Americans.
Soonergrunt
Jason Chaffetz is a shitstain of a human being.

To be honest,this had escaped me, Cole.
Thanks for informing me . Going to spread the word about it.???
Mnemosyne
Of course, they can’t make it retroactive, so the only president it’s going to affect is Trump.
Goku
@Mnemosyne: And any future Democ-hhaaaaaah. Sorry, I crack myself up
debbie
I can’t imagine Trump would sign this.
dmsilev
@Mnemosyne: They’ll probably try and weasel-word it so that biznessmen are exempt. Because Free Market.

They’re just bitter and shriveled to the core.

@debbie:
I can’t imagine it gets thru the senate; every senator imagines him/herself as presidential material.

@Mnemosyne:
Watch them completely ignore that. Just so they can nail Clinton too.

Well dead Reagan won’t be affected, so all is good.

I hope someone in Utah gets to punch Chaffetz in the face as a welcome-home gift after he resigns. He’s the fucking worst.
TenguPhule
The problem is that it didn’t.

Not just the racism. A worthless POS like O’Reilly gets 25 mil after exposing his employer to over 10 mil in liability for sexual harassment, and the former leader of the free world gets a fucking measly $200k pension after 4-8 years of getting paid like an assistant coach for a mid-major football team while being responsible for a massive bureaucracy, getting 50 death threats a day and having feces hurled at you by howler monkeys like Chaffetz. There are mid-level state bureaucrats that get better deals than that. Obviously, you don’t want to be president just for the money, but this just further guarantees that the only people interested in the job will be (1) nutcases and (2) grifters like Trump who will use the office to further their personal business interests (not mutually exclusive).
Cogitari Safari
The only thing that will make Republicans happy is if they see Obama picking cotton on the south lawn of the White House.

@Cogitari Safari: @Cogitari Safari: As I said earlier, we need to bury the entire GOP for America to survive.

@Another Scott: Gee, no wonder Chaffetz is butt sore about the whole thing, it was his bastard child to begin with. Petty little waste of protoplasm is our Jason.

Meanwhile, the Obamas just announced a two million dollar donation to a Chicago summer youth employment program.

I wonder if there’s a similar restriction on Congressional pensions. /eye roll/

@Another Scott: I am shocked that Obama had thoughtful and compelling reasons to act the way he did.

I called my congressman earlier today, Lee Zeldin (R), to find out his position on the AHCA. I talked to a polite office staff person who gave me absolutely no information whatsoever and told me somebody would get back to me. Nobody got back to me today, and I very much doubt anybody will before tomorrow’s vote. I just called his office again and left a message stating that I would be giving money to his opponent if he votes yes. I also called his DC office, but I couldn’t even leave a message there because the voicemail box is full.
What more can/should I be doing?

murkan ‘exceptionalism’ = whites only.

They also don’t appear to know the definition of hypocrisy. Obama disapproved of this law and veteod it. He didn’t champion the law to screw over his predecessors and then stick his hand out for cash after leaving the Presidency.

Corner Stone
@Iowa Old Lady: I honestly think that if you were alone in a room with Ivanka, and started threatening her with physical harm. She would smile widely then peel her face off and reveal the hideous lizard person face she truly owns in reality. Then she’d eat your face.
geg6
@Iowa Old Lady:
I think she’s hideous. If you take a good look at her, she resembles the Shitgibbon more than she does Ivanna. Lotsa surgery, peels and injections give her a more attractive visage and body than she otherwise would have have. And then we have the blackness of her disgusting soul that makes any real beauty she might have had disappear into the void that is her evil soul.
geg6
@Corner Stone:
Yup. Exactly. She horrifies and disgusts me.
Lapassionara
@Chet Murthy: yes. Miss him.

@geg6: She horrifies and disgusts me. It’s visceral, much as I respond to her father.
geg6
@Alternative Fax, a hip hop artist from Idaho:
She literally makes me gag, which is an even worse reaction than I have to Dolt 45. My level of hate for her is, I suspect, quite unhealthy.
Goku
@geg6: As much as I hate her, I think her looks should be left out of it. That goes for pretty much anybody. People can’t help how they look for the most part. They can help being decent human beings. Critique her deeds and behavior.
Chet Murthy
@geg6: Heh. From time-to-time, TenguPhule (or one other) posts some snuff fantasies about these vermin. I think that’s wrong to do. But it’s perfectly OK for God (or the FSM’s noodly appendage) to reach down and curse them.
I look forward to the day she’s no longer eff-able by the middle-aged-or-younger, and since that’s the only reason any male would hang around her, she’ll marinate in her (hopefully) long, long, long aging solitude, abandoned by her Jared and her children. Concretely, when Jared divorces her for a younger model, we’ll all chuckle up our sleeves. But Twitter will rejoice (that is, assuming there still is a Twitter/Internet/humanity).
Eljai
@geg6: Well, well, well. Ivanka uses the stories of women she admires in her book. They are not happy.

@geg6: I have high confidence that my level of hate for the entire Trump/Kushner Crime Cartel is extremely unhealthy. So we can console one another in our shared pathology, which might be slightly adaptive given our general level of distress over the events that keep them in the news. Therapists’ opinions are likely to vary.
Corner Stone

It *is* funny, but it’s tactically stupid. Just tell them you want him to vote no; if you say you’ve contributed to his opponent (let alone that you don’t live in the district), they’re guaranteed to ignore you.

@geg6: She’s freaky looking And an ugly person. And it’s evident there’s something very wrong in her relationship with her dad. It’s creepy as hell.
geg6
@Goku:
Nope, sorry. If you use your looks to sell your filthy, cheap product, you open yourself to any and all criticisms of said looks. Fuck her. I hope she is horribly disfigured by an incompetent plastic surgeon. Let her try to live on her actual talents. She’d starve and I’d cheer. And I do not feel one ounce of guilt for wishing that. She and her father literally want millions to suffer and die to satisfy their greed. Fuck her. Fuck her sideways with a rusty chainsaw.
geg6
@Yarrow:
She’s freaky looking because she’s a plastic surgery monster. Totally obvious. As is her bad hair dye jobs.

Um, point of fact, folks. From the USA Today article, something that seems to have been missed so far in the discussion: “Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., the top Democrat on Chaffetz’s committee, was a co-sponsor of the original bill. “Cummings definitely supports the concept, and if we can work out the technical issues with the bill that arose late in the last Congress, we expect he would strongly support it again,” said spokeswoman Jennifer Hoffman Werner.” So the racism/GOP vindictiveness arguments seem a little hollow.

It still better to be right than win huh?
Obama doesn’t need that $400k and should not have taken it. Period.
Republicans are all about tax cuts. Democrats have almost no narrative. Hill’s and Obama’s accepting bribes er I mean speaking fees destroys what little story we have.
And yes the republicans are evil racist and stupid. But pointing out that truth doesn’t seem to win elections, and during the period Obama and Hillary have been the leaders of the democratic party we have lost control of every branch of government from dog catcher to the supreme court. Its not a circular firing squad, its an evaluation of failure and a cry for new leadership.
