I guess Dear Leader really was very careful when he was in Moscow.
Sarka offered up that during the 2013 Miss Universe pageant, held in Moscow, a man surrounded by bodyguards approached her.
“He grabbed my hand like this,” she told host Kasza Tibor. “He was standing in the middle of a group of bodyguards, he grabbed my hand, he pulled me towards himself, and he asked, ‘Who are you?’ He asked in English. Then, I was so surprised, I’ll tell you who it was in a moment, I was so surprised that I couldn’t say anything except ‘Hungary.’”
“’Hungary,’” Tibor repeated, laughing. “You’re so lame!”
“He gave me his business card with his private number, and he told me in which hotel, which room he was staying in, and that his name is Donald Trump,” Sarka continued.
[…]“By the way, I still have the business card,” she said on Kasza Taxi, before moving on to the next song. Sarka later provided what she said was a picture of the card Trump handed her to Hungarian tabloid Blikk.

You’ve gotta love the phrase, for pure Don Martin sonic quality alone, “Hungarian tabloid Blikk.”

thank god it was only the hand he grabbed there.

There is not enough money you could give me to go to his room. Okay maybe if had a justice of the peace standing by, and he really was a billionaire, and he was going to die an hour after the wedding, and I had a notarized copy of his will leaving the billions to me, then I’d sleep with him. Otherwise tell him to GFYS.

@p.a.: That is a line from the song “Lawyers, Guns, and Money”. But you’re right, it should say “I went home with the waitress, the way I always do.” The next line is “How was I to know, she was with the Russians too”

It also uses the word malware.

So it’s less of a question of “do the Russians have sex tapes of Donald Trump?” and more “Which government doesn’t have sex tapes of Donald Trump?”

I’m sure he went home that night and whined and complained that she’d treated him unfairly, after he’d put on the most gentlemanly air he could imagine. After all, he didn’t bust into the dressing room while she was naked or anything.

I was just reading latest issue of Vanity Fair which has about 4 Trump related articles. Seeing photos of him when he was much younger and with Ivana and Marla, I thought it sure couldn’t have been his looks that attracted his wives to him. Much thinner but he looked thuggish and classless even then. What some women will do for money and celebrity status.

@Doug!: I was a little nervous… grammar and content corrections have drawn some heat here recently ?

Trump thought his bodyguards were savvy enough to sweep his room. They probably found the obvious decoy camera and missed the four real ones.

These things just depress me, because no one cares, because it’s Trump. Any other politician’s career would be done over something like this. But no one fucking cares. The sheer amount of rules-breaking in the run-up to the inauguration that is being completely ignored just depresses me. I mean, the fucking hotel alone! And he’ll be inaugurated, and keep his interest in it, and simply ignore what the contract said, because that’s what he does, and no one cares.
Vox had an article up about what it’s like to live under an authoritarian regime. Basically, it’s generally safe and boring, but nothing ever changes. Elections don’t mean anything anymore.
I’m going to the march in DC, and I’ve called Gillenbrand (my rep) to praise her for the good things she’s doing, and I’ve written to various politicians, etc., but I swear, I don’t think it makes any difference anymore because the GOP are in charge and they don’t fucking care about whether something is against the rules or not as long as it’s their guy doing it. And that goes for all the rank-and-file Republicans, too. They don’t care.

I’m pretty distressed – I’m laying a bunch on Snowden and Greenwald.
A few nights ago, an RT feed disrupted Maxine Waters on CSPAN with no good explanation. Pompeo’s hearing loses lighting in a mysterious way. Last night, MSNBC glitches as Ignatius is talking about Russian contacts and intentions, and basically enters a staccato continuous skip cycle on the word “Russia”. Russian malware is found on a utility laptop in Vermont, and goddess only knows about control functions on everything from dam operations to nuclear plants from sea to shining sea.
The NSA would have been more capable of addressing these things pre-Snowden, identifying perpetrators and mysterious packets, but right wing shrieks and leftish dudebros killed it based on the potential retention of salacious imagery and brony browsing habits by the government (as opposed to literally EVERY ENTITY ON EARTH THAT ALREADY HAD THEM). Not only did Snowden reveal a legal program with built in safeguards, he also handed them software tools and methods, and had assistance from Assange, Greenwald and Greenwald’s dupe lover.

Honestly, I think this is a very common historical pattern. I don’t know much about French history immediately prior to WWII (I did read Shirer’s The Collapse of the Third Republic, but that was a long time ago), but my impression is that right-wingers then, as now, were much more concerned with attacking domestic opponents than defending their country.

I’m genuinely spooked about the movie plot we’re living. Last night’s MSNBC glitch was something I’ve never seen from a professional broadcast, and combining that with the CSPAN bit and the lights in Pompeo’s hearing gives me grave concerns about everything from power infrastructure to banking.
On the good side, if my debts get wiped, I’m probably happier and retain a lot of basic pre-net legal skills land knowledge.

The fascists usually substituted their flag for the original (as in Germany) or added their insignia to the existing flag (as in Spain). In Italy, strong public disapproval prevented them from changing the official flag, so they instead flew the fascist flag next to it until 1943 when the German-sponsored puppet government temporarily added a fascist insignia to it.

@ThresherK: I was working with a guy, 2:30 am, he got a call from his wife, she was in her nightcoat in her car in their house driveway to prevent the repo man from taking it. 40+ miles from our location too, and we were doing work which, if it went bad, could lead to FCC report and investigation, so he couldn’t leave without risking his job. Possibly mine too. He told her: just stay there, maybe he’ll leave. (The risk of trouble was quite small, but not 0, and would have been a bit higher if I had to work alone.). We finished up about 4:30 and he left although the shift was ’till 6am.

@Mnemosyne: It wasn’t Sinclair Lewis, it was a Methodist minister and professor of Divinity at… Yale, I think it was? Halford E. Luccock. Anyway, his original quote morphed into the one that has been credited to Sinclair Lewis (and Huey Long, among others). What he originally said, in 1938:
“When and if fascism comes to America it will not be labeled “made in Germany”; it will not be marked with a swastika; it will not even be called fascism; it will be called, of course, “Americanism.” … The high-sounding phrase “the American way” will be used by interested groups intent on profit, to cover a multitude of sins against the American and Christian tradition, such sins as lawless violence, teargas and shotguns, denial of civil liberties … There is an obligation resting on us all to dedicate our minds to the hard task of thinking in terms of Christian objectives and values, so that we may be saved from moral confusion.
For never, probably, has there been a time when there was a more vigorous effort to surround social and international questions with such a fog of distortion and prejudices and hysterical appeal to fear. We have touched a new low in a Congressional investigation this Summer, used by some participating in it to whip up fear and prejudice against many causes of human welfare, such as concern for peace and the rights of labor to bargain collectively.”
