NH Union Leader: "Gov. Christie is right for these dangerous times." https://t.co/BD9un8Nm0Z
— Rachel Smolkin (@RachelSmolkin) November 29, 2015
Cynical Masshole that I am, I think this can best be interpreted as the Union Leader‘s FVCK ALL YOU FVCKING IOWA BIBLE-BANGERS – #FITN!!!
Because New Hampshire, and more specifically the UL ‘kingmakers’, totally owns its “First in the Nation” primary, corn-sucking caucuses be damned.
Is it me or does the Union-Leader editorial read like it was written by a sixth-grader? https://t.co/1U97r50uz3
— Daniel Drezner (@dandrezner) November 29, 2015
@dandrezner
It was written for 6th graders
— Macedonian Tendency (@DavidEdenden) November 29, 2015
@dandrezner Only way to get Trump supporters to switch. :)
— Sadanand Dhume (@dhume) November 29, 2015
Told this to Joe McQuaid. He says to tell you he finished the eighth grade. https://t.co/p5DxFLlvRE

… proving that ‘social promotion’ was a thing, even back in the olden days. (McQuaid’s the UL publisher.)
It's funny that the Union Leader, which twice endorsed Pat Buchanan, has discovered the importance of sobriety and experience.
— Josh Barro (@jbarro) November 29, 2015
Better to have than not have the Union Leader endorsement. But not by a huge margin.

So, what’s on the agenda as we finish the long weekend?
Baud
To be fair, how do you pick the best clown? I’m sympathetic.
Felonius Monk
That’s a whale of an endorsement. Or is it the endorsement of a whale?
shell
Wow, didn’t realize New Hampshire was totally responsible for electing the next president. Rest of the country be damned.
Take yourself a bit too seriously perhaps.
Brachiator
When’s the next primary after New Hampshire?
Commenter2
Final blow for Kasich?
ThresherK
Fall Out Boy, a band which I don’t dislike, I guess, is the halftime concert* at the Grey Cup.
They’re from suburban Chicago. Canada is now out of Canadian music stars.
(*Apparently this is a mandatory thing, now.)
Corner Stone
Can someone please make the tabs have their own distinct names?
Omnes Omnibus
@Corner Stone: That’s not how proper, professional websites do things.
David Koch
They’ve always been losers.
4 years ago they endorsed Newt. He went on to visit a lot of zoos and Tiffany stores.
Other losing endorsements
1988 Pierre du Pont
1992 Pat Buchanan
1996 Pat Buchanan
2000 Malcolm Forbes Jr.
So they either endorse old money or old assholes.
dmsilev
@Baud: The next debate will feature cream pies at five paces. Last clown standing wins.
p.a.
Anne have you heard his radio ads? “I defunded PP before anyone else. I took on the union thugs.” (paraphrase) I don’t get Mass tv so I don’t have to watch what these shitheels beam into NH.
Mnemosyne (tablet)
George Takei + “Hamilton” = win
Felonius Monk
@Omnes Omnibus: We’re not talking about a proper, professional website. We’re talking about Balloon-Juice.
raven
Bohdi says bye from the beach.
David Koch
Baud
@raven:
He’s not ready to go back to work.
raven
@ThresherK: This is their lead singer, Patrick Stump, with Daryl Hall doing some killer blue-eyed soul!
raven
@Baud: I’m not either but I banged my knee on the gunwale of the boat repeatedly and it’s killing me. Don’t get old.
dmsilev
How bad is Christie doing in NH? He’s sitting 2 percentage points below !Jeb in the NH average. I don’t think this going to make much difference for Governor Bridgegate.
dmsilev
@David Koch: A consistently wrong record is valuable too; you just have to look at the decision and assume that the opposite will happen. it’s one reason why people still read Bill Kristol.
Gin & Tonic
@raven: It beats the alternative.
raven
@Gin & Tonic: They tell me that!
Baud
@raven: I’ll do my best.
Corner Stone
@dmsilev:
And can we, for F’s sake, please get the F along with investigating/prosecuting that shit? Why haven’t we?
amk
barro nailed it with that pat, the racist tweet.
Baud
@dmsilev: I would like to see Christie and/or Bush get competitive again. More confusion can only be a good thing.
Cacti
Per the wiki, here’s the rap sheet of the “pro-life” movement since 1977:
3 kidnappings, 11 murders, 26 attempted murders, 41 bombings, 91 attempted bombings, 153 assaults, 173 arsons, 373 physical invasions, 619 bomb threats, 1,264 incidents of vandalism, and 1,630 criminal trespasses.
A terrorist movement by any definition or measure.
Enabled and abetted by the Republican Party for 4 decades.
Felonius Monk
@Corner Stone:
1.) It’s New Jersey. 2.) The U.S. Attorney is too busy trying to convict corrupt New York politicians instead.
ThresherK
@raven: Pretty neat.
Zinsky
KrispyKreme has as much chance of being president as Pee Wee Herman!
Speaking of peewees, take a look at these pictures of LardAss Christie:

Pardon me for saying so, but the asshole doesn’t appear to have a dick!
Ruckus
@Zinsky:
You are looking in the wrong place. His dickness is as big as he is. IOW, he’s all dick. OK other than the part that’s asshole.
Corner Stone
“Don’t you want to meet my family?”
amk
@Ruckus: can a guy be a dick and as asshole at the same time?
Patricia Kayden
@Cacti: Republicans need to be held accountable for all that mayhem in the name of being “pro life”.
Baud
@amk: Yes, kind of how light is both a particle and a wave.
Roger Moore
@raven:
Beats the alternative.
Anoniminous
@Brachiator:
South Carolina on Feb 20th for the GOP, Dems will hold their primary in SC a week later. Nevada Caucus for Dems is on 20th, GOP Nevada caucus is that Tuesday.
Mike in NC
@Baud: During Thanksgiving dinner my sister-in-law asked me, “So is Jeb Bush completely out of it now?” and I replied, “Yeah, he’s the Invisible Man”. She then added, “No charisma and no personality”.
Me: “Right, and all of his ideas are worse than the shit his idiot brother pushed for”.
Ruckus
@amk:
You ask such a silly question what with all the proof we see daily in the conservative side of the aisle?
Mike in NC
The freaking Manchester Union Leader stopped being relevant sometime in the 1970s.
Baud
@Mike in NC: Right. I said earlier, people are no longer laughing at Jeb!; now they’re just ignoring him. I wonder which hurts him more.
Ruckus
@Roger Moore:
Some days, not by all that much.
Ruckus
@Baud:
Laughing at him got him some attention, no matter it wasn’t worth a bucket of cold spit. Ignoring him is better, the total lack of attention is worth even less to him in his quest to be the smarter brother.
Amir Khalid
@dmsilev:
How did the Union Leader pick Chris Christie to endorse, out of all the Republican candidates? Did it run some sort of competitive interview/assessment process, or did it just pick the one who paid it the most attention? Its statement of endorsement reads like Christie’s media people wrote it; it shows no sign of being the outcome of the former. The Union Leader seems to be squandering its endorsement on an unpopular candidate with no real chance.
BillinGlendaleCA
@raven:
The alternative ain’t so hot either.
ETA: Late again. Damn you G&T.
Ruckus
@Amir Khalid:
It’s OK, their bread and butter has been endorsing losers. Without them we’d have to wait for elections to see who is going to lose.
Gin & Tonic
@BillinGlendaleCA: You’re welcome.
Gin & Tonic
@Mike in NC: In 1982, when Bill Loeb died.
cmorenc
@dmsilev:
That’s why it would be absolutely terrifying if Bill Kristol predicted in one of his columns that the sun will still rise again tomorrow morning.
a hip hop artist from Idaho (fka Bella Q)
@Felonius Monk: True but there was an attempt to turn it into a proper professional website. Which encountered user acceptance difficulties after launch.
Gin & Tonic
@Amir Khalid: As has been pointed out, the UL was once powerful and relevant, but that was over three decades ago under Bill Loeb, who was as nasty a piece of work as you can find. Read his Wikipedia entry. But since his death it has play-acted at relevance.
Omnes Omnibus
@a hip hop artist from Idaho (fka Bella Q): I do my best to keep up the standards of unprofessionalism around here.
a hip hop artist from Idaho (fka Bella Q)
@Omnes Omnibus: As do I, but it seems we are sometimes criticized by those who know better how to internet.
Roger Moore
@Baud:
So he’s doing the Gandhi thing, but in the wrong order:
First, you think you’re winning
Then they fight you
Then they laugh at you
Then they ignore you
Amir Khalid
@Gin & Tonic:
I just did. Yick.
Sister Rail Gun of Warm Humanitarianism
@Mnemosyne (tablet): Oh, my.
schrodinger's cat
Sadanand Dhume is a tool and a Modi bhakt too.
FlyingToaster
@Amir Khalid: As everyone has pointed out, the UL is thirty years past its sell-by date.
But in the New Hampster GOP, it’s important. They can’t possibly endorse one of “those people” (anyone that the bible-belters in Iowa would support), so they have to go fishing in the pond of “respectable but sound tough”. Trump is running for America’s ID, Rubio is –gasp!– Cuban-American, and ¿Jeb? is a loser; Carly has a va-jay-jay.
It was down to Christie or Kasich, and I do NOT want to know what perverse acts were required by the UL editorial board. NO, NO, NO, NO!
