Rick Perry’s campaign has been declined due to insufficient funds, according to CNN. [Insert sad trombone here].
Just as the painfully dumb Perry didn’t merit consideration as a candidate, the news that he’s dropping out doesn’t deserve its own thread, so let’s make this one a free-for-all. Open thread!

So farewell—to the little good you bear me.
Farewell? a long farewell to all my greatness!
This is the state of man: to-day he puts forth
The tender leaves of hopes, to-morrow blossoms,
And bears his blushing honors thick upon him;
The third day comes a frost, a killing frost,
And when he thinks, good easy man, full surely
His greatness is a-ripening, nips his root,
And then he falls as I do.–WS

And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I’ll say it clear
I’ll state my case, of which I’m certain
I’ve lived a life that’s full
I traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way
Regrets, I’ve had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

So the banner bully who who lost a tug of war to the woman who interrupted Dick Cheney the other day has been identified – Patrick Clowson. You might casually assume that he’s probably just an odious, smug, psychofuck chickenhawk from a right wing think tank who takes out his aggression on women….in which case you would be completely correct.
But wait! There’s more! Here he is giving a speech, causally advocating that the US could provoke a war with Iran by destroying one of its submarines:
See the embedded video at around 1:04.
The man is checking all kinds of boxes for “‘psychopath’“:
– A disregard for laws and social mores CHECK!
– A disregard for the rights of others CHECK!
– A failure to feel remorse or guilt CHECK!
– A tendency to display violent behavior CHECK!
– Psychopathic criminals are cool, calm, and meticulous CHECK!
– Intelligent psychopaths make excellent white-collar criminals and “con artists” due to their calm and charismatic natures. CHECK!
– Psychopaths dissociate emotionally from their actions, regardless of how terrible those actions may be. CHECK!
He is just a completely vile human being.

There was a sniper here in the Kanawha Valley similar to the guys in the greater DC area. It appears that it was a dispute among acquaintances involved in drugs and stolen auto parts, no one was actually arrested for the actual people getting shot, but other crimes may have put the shooter behind bars for an extended vacation away from freedom.
We drove through Phoenix and north to the Grand Canyon area a couple of years ago, amazing congestion and metro development. I was in Phoenix way back (1989?) for a Fiesta Bowl, and it seemed much less congested and over developed.
My next door neighbor and best friend has had her niece die. She was disabled with CIDP which is a rare disease somewhat like MS, and very difficult to diagnose and treat. She and her husband are gone now to the funeral home to see her before cremation. That will be very hard.
The niece was younger daughter of friend’s older sister, and so much like a sister to my neighbor. Her illness caused problems, she turned to street drugs for the pain prior to her diagnosis. Tomorrow we will have dinner next door, friends from all around will come who knew her.
I’m going to make a big deer meatloaf and a big cheesy casserole. Not sure potatoes or pasta, with tomatoes and onions, peppers, etc. Pork BBQ tonight, later. We eat late, Mrs J used to get home around 8-9 pm from work, so I would get dinner started an hour or two after I got home. Haven’t had anything similar since then, but damnation, this hurts. If it doesn’t subside over the weekend, I’m heading for the podiatrist first thing Monday morning — don’t want to be limping and gimping on my trip to Chicago.

@Mike J: No boot disk, my problem(which I knew) was that it was trying to get to a 64 bit grub from the 32 bit UEFI. I had the 32 bit grub installed in Linux but did an software update. That seems to have messed it up. I could boot from the 64 bit option in UEFI. The solution was to reinstall the 32 bit grub. It’s a dual boot setup with 32 bit Win10 and 64 bit Kubuntu.

@A guy:
Perhaps he should start a war in the wrong country to celebrate?
mclaren
Call me petty. But I’m gonna celebrate every incompetent Republican sociopath who flames out and craters like Perry.
In fact, I’m going to dance a little jig every time one of these Jeffrey-Dahmer-wannabes destroys his candidacy by inadvertently revealing his gross stupidity and appalling incompetence.
When Jeb goes down in flames, I intend to hold a pizza party.
Small-minded? You bet. But every far-right sociopath who augers in and leaves a mile-wide debris field is worth celebrating, if you ask me.

Hah! First exit from the clown car cab. Fuck him and who cares. Sorry if I repeat earlier sentiments.

@Mandalay: Since Iran uses Soviet/Russian Alfa’s it wouldn’t take a submariner to know that if the US acted in beliligerent way, it would be all over but the shouting. It would be the single most stupidest thing we could do especially since we got sonar prints on just about every boat underwater (with probably a few exceptions of some ultraquiet German diesels.)
This guy probably couldn’t even get a editor’s job a Jane’s, for fucks sake.
(Update: Meniere’s still roaring away in right ear, finished my last steroid injection (which caused a nasty-ass vertigo attack, where I had to get a valium-script filled and take cab home and wait 4 hours before I could go back and fetch my fucking car….)

Do I have to like DWS now?

@Cacti:
And there are two versions of the video — the one that focuses on the protester throughout shows her sign clearly and makes the bully look even weenier.
I can actually envision both ends of the current American political spectrum using the footage in “issue” ads — with the right-wingers appealing to an ever-shrinking audience of assholes.
Denali
@Siubhan,
No.
SiubhanDuinne
@Denali:
Well, good.
Can’t really be arsed enough right now to track down what caused her change of heart. But AFAIAC, she did plenty of damage when she was dithering/opposed. Coming out in support of the deal tonight is too little and too late. Fuck her.

Does anyone know what the Vegas odds are for the remaining 15 or 16 GOP candidates to win the nom?
Also, should we start a pool as to who drops out next? I am having a hard time deciding between Jindal, Christie, Graham, Pataki, and Gilmore (although Gilmore is a weird bird – he may *technically stay running for a while, on his own thin dime)
Brachiator
@Robert:
Perry couldn’t even beat Chelsea Clinton.
divF
@Brachiator:
And Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky is way cuter, not to mention more articulate, than Rick Perry.

Warms the cockles of your heart, doesn’t it?
Brachiator
@divF:
Very true. Funny, I forgot that Chelsea was a married parent now. Tempus fugit and all that.
Ajabu
@Brachiator:
Hell. he couldn’t beat George Clinton!
amk
Has he put up his glasses on e-bay yet? I am sure some true beliebers will bid for it netting him gazillions.

@gratuitous: God called Perry yo run, but did not want him to win. To run and then be humiliated.
God can be a bit of a jerk like that.

@Germy Shoemangler:
If he had grown up in today’s “zero tolerance” society, he would be firmly ensconced in the school-to-prison pipeline.
Germy Shoemangler
@rikyrah: And if James Blake was not a celebrity he’d still be sitting in a cell. Possibly dead, if he lost his cool and yelled at the cops.

@Germy Shoemangler: My favorite response from Bratton: “Bbbbbut he looked so much like the real perp.”
Turns out the picture of the “real perp” was erroneous in the first place. But nice deflection away from the issue of tackling and hogtying a law abiding citizen without so much as a howjado, Bill.

I used to get so many of those forwarded chain emails from GOP friends about how the Texas economy was one of the bright spots of the post 2008 recession all due to conservative economic ideas. Yet, the governor of that very state can’t get any traction with the GOP primary voter. That’s the thanks he gets from those guys. I’m going to remind my GOP buddies of this when they start griping about.how the liberal media never gives any fair time to conservative economic policies. Heck, you GOP voters won’t even support a governor of a state you claimed was a success story.
