Via commentor EFGoldman, news from North Carolina:
An Indian Trail councilman decided to boldly go where no politician has gone before — and tendered his resignation this week in the Klingon language.
Apparently David Waddell no longer wanted to live long and prosper on the board…
Waddell, a plumber, said he thought he would be more effective by coming to board meetings as a citizen and speaking out on issues. He said he also needed to devote time to mount a write-in campaign on the Constitution Party’s platform for Kay Hagan’s U.S. Senate seat…
I’m thinking Sen. Hagan’s campaign staff is busy researching how many fanfic YouTubes they can use before running afoul of Paramount and the copyright laws. Full Klingon resignation letter at the link, if anyone wants to pull a Garry Wills and criticize his grammar…

Apart from pointing & mocking (“Same thing we do every night, Pinkie!”), what’s on the agenda for the evening?
ETA: Commentary from an expert…
sm*t cl*de says:
Does Klingon culture even recognise the concept of “formal resignation letter”? What is wrong with leaping to one’s feet in the middle of a board meeting, bellowing something about one’s honour, and attacking all the other members simultaneously with a broken chairleg? This has always worked for me.

Video of police interview of Zimmerman’s girlfriend. Sad.

@ranchandsyrup: What kind of woman dates this generation’s equiv of OJ Simpson? I’m guessing not a very stable and cogent one….

@Punchy: Yeah, sad all the way around. I don’t have a good answer.

This is my last weekend off before HELL WEEK begins … which turns into HELL MONTH …. and then HELL 6 WEEKS before I get a brief break around President’s Day. I’m teaching 3 classes now and while I love it, one is a one-on-one tutoring with a 6-year-old and I’m finding that sucks up so much prep time because kids that age, you just can’t plan for how they’re going to be. So like today’s lesson the kid was actually tired and needed more quiet activities like coloring and stuff, and I didn’t have that because LAST class he needed more songs and dancing and active stuff.
Sigh.
So tonight I’m going to let the husband buy me dinner and cocktails and tomorrow I sleep in and THEN I begin planning lessons….

He’s a plumber and thinks he can do more as a private citizen than as an elected official… That’s 2008 vintage wingnut there, right? A potent blend of Joe and Sarah, yes?
@Jewish Steel: that was my first thought too…

Woops I see ranchandsyrup has already posted the Scheibe link. NEVER MIND.

@Southern Beale: No slinking necessary and good luck with your upcoming travails. Been pimpin yr blog to people. Keep up the good work.

On the agenda? Since it’s 13 deg F here and dropping, I think staying indoors is number one on the agenda. Which, coincidentally, gives me the opportunity to listen to the furnace slurping up $3.79/gal fuel oil.

If he’d tendered his resignation in Voynich, that’d have been more impressive…

Do you gots STP stickers on that walker?

@Yatsuno:
I don’t know why you keep coming on here soliciting praise for “achievements” that any three-year-old can pull off.
Thirty feet in the walker. WTF. Some people . . .
Eric
@Steeplejack: that would be good news for john mccain…

Ok, I’ve only been following this story on the periphery.
But now I see this on TPM and my only comment, is seriously…is there nothing Romney wouldn’t do to get back in the spotlight.
I know, I know, it’s his grandson, but one thing you have to commend the Obamas on, no matter how much bait the media tries to lay in front of them to get them to talk about or pass on information about the Obama girls, both Obama’s shut that shit down quick.
As much as RWNJ have said about Malia and Sasha, I don’t think the Obamas would EVER touch the BS spewed or give it any spotlight or weight by actually giving an interview or even commenting on the bullshit.
But I expect no less of the Romneys…

Just got our 1st bill from our new health insurance provider. W00t! They tell us we should get our new member materials within 10 days of payment. Which makes it impossible to pay online this month. But I’m so pleased that we have insurance coverage again, I don’t care. And the turn around time was really pretty good: I only got signed up on Dec. 22nd (to beat the rush ;-> ).

I’ll be going back in time and work on installing Mac OS 9 on one of my G4 Dual 1 GHz PowerMacs.
Why?
The Mac is “surplus” and I decided to put it to use in order to read CDs that were burned during that operating system’s era. I intend to copy the contents to network storage space, but I’d decided to do that under the original OS and not under 10.4 Tiger.

It is fucking cold here in NYC. I suppose it’s nothing compared to what the Upper Midwest goes through, but basically was at zero or below windchill all day. Going to spend all night indoors, preferably close to the radiator. Also munching on leftover Kalua pork and chicken tetrazzini from New Year’s…yummeh.

Mitt Romney would look damn good in an orange jumpsuit, and hopefully he’d be granted conjugal visits from Dame Ann. He deserves no less.

This is somehow even funnier if one grew up hearing Waddell stories coming out of Hancock & McDonough co.s IL. Baffled by one of them there revolving doors was Benny and it was mutual kin that told it. Another one involved a three-ring binder. We always considered the Waddell genes of slightly more concern than the married cousins.

I read that at first as “The party also opposes the federal Viking Rights Act.” And I’m all like, Well, yeah, duh, I do too, Viking-Americans just want special entitlements and want to ram their Norse agenda down our throats.

Normally, resigning in Klingon would be a good thing among my people. Is this yet another thing WIngnuts wish to mark territory on, and ruin?

This story brought much amusement at the job today. I guess the dude’s only 99.9% douchebag.

@TooManyJens:
I’m not sure if you’re being facetious, but there are YouTube equivalents of fan fiction. In fact, with the tools coming down in price and going up in sophistication, some of them are pretty darn good. For example, one recent video concerns Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) meeting the Doctor (Matt Smith) and it’s very well done.
I’ve done a couple myself and it’s pretty fun.

Hola. John graciously told me I could put some pictures and pithy commentary about my trip to Honduras on the front page, and here we are, only two days from heading home, and I haven’t gotten to it yet. ADD and tropical third world beach towns can make a pretty deadly, if delightful, combination. Well, if John’s offer still stands when we get back, maybe I can get to it then…
