That was in April. So much for the immediacy of Twitter.

Renisha McBride Update: Teen had .22 blood alcohol content when she was shot to death by Mich. homeowner
Baud
Almost as cool as that picture of Nixon and Elvis.
Yatsuno
@lamh36: Holy shitballs. New planet naow plz.
WereBear
@lamh36: And what’s the point? It’s okay to shoot intoxicated people?
If every 19 year old who made a bad decision got the death penalty as a result…
lamh36
@WereBear: Exactly. This is the same. thing that happened with the Trayvon Martin case. So because he may have smoked a little weed then of course he deserved what George Z did to him.
It’s basic tainting the rape victim strategy.
Villago Delenda Est
@lamh36:
This sort of shit infuriates me.
Villago Delenda Est
@WereBear:
Not every 19 year old.
Mud people 19 year olds.
If Trayvon Martin were white, George Zimmerman would be in a cell right now. No fucking question about it.
schrodinger's cat
Dr Kitteh has a diagnosis for Richard Cohen of the WashPo.
Just Some Fuckhead, Thought Leader
Who is Patti Smith and why does the Pope have a girls name?
Villago Delenda Est
@schrodinger’s cat:
I recommend euthanasia for the patient, myself.
However, my idea of doctorin’ is to tell you to take two aspirin and call me in the morning.
schrodinger's cat
@lamh36: I haven’t been following this case when did this happen. These trigger happy people are too scary for words.
Violet
@WereBear: they will argue that she was out of control because she was drunk and thus scary and thus the homeowner was defending himself.
Anoniminous
@lamh36:
Came to complain about something else and suddenly my vexations are put into perspective.
Fucking shitballs.
lamh36
@schrodinger’s cat: I believe it happened at least 3 weeks ago. But it’s gotten big news in the last 2 weeks
BGinCHI
Having the Pope host an open thread is Progress.
scav
They drug test that Australian kid shot while running? Funny, that. Guy running for no visible reason scares some people.
Steve M.
Well, she wrote “Wave” about John Paul I (not II).
maximiliano furtive, formerly known as dr. bloor
No doubt reminiscing about that electric night at CBGB back in ’78.
scav
@Just Some Fuckhead, Thought Leader: Well, he would if he were Frances.
ETA @BGinCHI: well, the host would be elevated if so.
Jacel
And she sang “Gloria”, though not the one from the mass.
Geoduck
Something cool for any Doctor Who fans out there who haven’t already seen it..
Elizabelle
I’m dancing barefoot….
This pope is smart enough to realize Patti said “heroine”, not “heroin”.
I iz liking this pope.
Aji
@lamh36: And THIS is why pushing back against Cohen and his fellow travelers is so important. Because anyone who can look at an interracial relationship (and biracial children) and regard a “gag reflex” as “conventional” sees one half of said relationship as “less than.” And when you see certain classes of people as “less than” based on such characteristics, then you get (in addition to the thousand and one daily microaggressions and tiny cuts) Renisha McBride and Trayvon Martin.
I’m sick of this bullshit trope that says pushing back on this is something that “doesn’t matter.” Come and live in our skins for a week – hell, even a day – and then tell us again how much it “doesn’t matter.”
jenn
@Anoniminous: Yeah, me three.
Roger Moore
@lamh36:
So he has two excuses for shooting an unarmed woman on the other side of a locked door. That’s called having a belt and suspenders.
ranchandsyrup
First ER experience for our family. 3 y.o. was a total champion. No tears even during the shots for the local. When she was done she exclaimed, “Mommy! I got a check up!”
Sloane Ranger
@Geoduck: Just seen the Science of Dr Who lecture from the Royal Institution given by Brian Cox. Good basic science concepts for Dummies with entertaining experiments plus some inserts of the Doctor meeting Brian.
Looking forward to the docu drama on the early years and the Special.
Francis
@Just Some Fuckhead, Thought Leader: Men have borne the name Francis for centuries. The female spelling is, usually, Frances.
[insert gratuitous insult here — because I’ve heard the “but you have a GIRL’S name” line about a billion too many times in my life]
Poopyman
Well now, how often do you see Patti Smith and a little boy in lederhosen in the same picture?
fka AWS
@lamh36: Maybe I’m wrong here, but I assume they have a toxicology report any time an autopsy is done? Would seem to make sense.
Not trying to excuse whatever’s going on, just seems like that would make sense.
Roger Moore
Too bad Robert Mapplethorpe isn’t around to take the picture.
salvage
Has the Pope gotten around to settling the abuse lawsuits and having all the files opened to local and international law enforcement?
He should.
rea
@lamh36: Toxicology for a homicide victim is pretty standard.
Onkel Fritze
Jesus died for somebodies sins but not hers.
At This Point I Am An Angry Black Woman
@lamh36: I suppose now we will be told how unusual it is for a 19 year old to be drunk.
I’m 34 and that was probably my blood alcohol level at a wedding I attended last week-end. I guess I should have been shot it the face, but all I had was a hangover.
cckids
@ranchandsyrup:
Awww. Hope all is better now.
When my now 20-yr old was 3, he’d been to the ER more than to the doctor (ok, not counting vaccines). He was a really healthy daredevil. Thank FSM we didn’t have a suspicious doc calling CPS on us!
ranchandsyrup
@cckids: Yeah, that would have been some ‘splainin with the CPS.
She’s doing great. Two whole stitches. :)
Wag
@Geoduck:
John Hurt? that fucking rocks.
Patti Smith and the Pope? There may be hope for the Catholic church after all…
sparrow
@Francis: The funny thing is how names morph regarding gender. Tells you something about the non-equality of the sexes. Example: “Shirley”, in the 1850s, was a boys name only. Until Charlotte Bronte decided to name her eponymous female heroine. Giving a girl a boy’s name is “edgy”. But if it becomes popular, then it’s an “unmanly” name.
lamh36
@rea: hmm got it so they ONLY release it when something shows up as a way yo discredit whom??? Someone brought up the Australian runner who was shot by those kids awhile back. I don’t recall them releasing the results of that one. I do remember them releasing the results on Trayvon Martin though & that was used to discredit whom again?
Yeah it’s just us black folk being too sensitive again.
I’m out of here. Got to get to my bowling league.
Baud
@lamh36:
Can’t be certain, I can see it being a problem with what the media chooses to report rather than a problem with the local authorities doing the tests and releasing them on a routine basis.
Frankensteinbeck
@lamh36:
I believe the issue that made it shocking in Martin’s case was that Martin was drug tested, and Zimmerman was not.
PaulW
@Geoduck:
I’ve seen it. I’ve blogged it. I can verify there are 2 million Who fans fangasming and putting that YouTube clip on replay for the rest of the weekend.
Paul McGann deserved more love to play the Doctor on TV than that sad movie pilot Fox commissioned in 1996 (*another* reason to hate Fox: they not only screwed renewing the series, they screwed the show’s continuity!). Every fan I’ve met loved McGann’s performance, just not that script.
Mnemosyne (iPhone)
@Frankensteinbeck:
This right here. What was the homeowner’s blood alcohol level when he shot a woman in the face? What drugs did he test positive for?
David Koch
Patti Smith is religious?
of all people, you’d think her consciousness would be raised above supernatural stories lacking any evidence.
maya
@sparrow: Same true of many other names. Evelyn and Carol come to mind Originally male names but then something something happened. Though I don’t believe Debbie was ever formerly masculine.
David Koch
@Baud: atleast seeing Franke rocking out with Patti will drive the coke sniffing adulteress up the wall
karen
@PaulW:
I didn’t start watching til RTD brought it back in 2005 and Eccelston was my favorite though Tennant was great too.
Omnes Omnibus
@lamh36: It is my understanding that Michigan law requires an autopsy for all deaths caused by violence. The toxicology report would be a part of that procedure.
Yatsuno
@karen: McGann played the Doctor great. The movie was horrid. Not even so bad it’s good horrid. Just…horrid.
@PaulW: Moffat is cheating on the regeneration issue in this. I’m laughing my ass off about it, but only giving the minor spoiler here.
(Am I the only one disappointed that he’s not with River here some way?)
Pogonip
@maya: You forgot Pope Debbie, 732-795 A.D.
Roger Moore
@Pogonip:
Was Pope Debbie before or after Pope On A Rope?
Citizen_X
@Onkel Fritze: I am American, I am Muslim, and I have no guilt.
Lavocat
Sounds like a pretty cool punk band.
Omnes Omnibus
@Citizen_X: It was a play on this.
fuckwit
Fucking yawn. Note to self: pie-filter all pope-related posts. I’m tired of hearing about it.
Pogonip
@Roger Moore: Right before the famous pugilist-turned-religious, Pope-a-Dope.
Pogonip
As a (not very good) member of his flock, I like Pope Francis, for what it’s worth. Seems like a good guy.
Citizen_X
@Omnes Omnibus: Oh, I know. Mine was from the intro to Rock and Roll N*****.
Omnes Omnibus
@Citizen_X: Damn, outhipstered.
Paul in KY
@Violet: Probably will argue that, but it won’t fly as she was outside, with a door between. Also how could home owner have felt threatened while holding a 12 gauge?
canuckistani
He’s a shiny wrapper on the same old turd, but it’s fun to see the old angry catholics weep tears of blood at the sight of that shiny new wrapper.
