Here’s what happened:
1. We were getting reports of a malware infestation. I subscribed us to a website malware monitoring and removal service, and supposedly the malware has been removed, and the site has been “hardened”. We shall see.
2. Google now thinks we are a malware site. I told them to check again but it takes a few hours for them to be convinced we’re OK. That’s why everyone’s Chrome turns red (seemingly at random) and shows a picture of a burglar when they visit the site.
3. As part of the cleanup, 2 months of images got deleted. We won’t go into why other than to mention that general stupidity and a comedy of errors and hardware failures were involved. So, some posts that used to have pictures no longer have pictures.
WordPress has a history of issues with malware. I thought we had things configured to avoid that, but obviously I was wrong.
namekarB
Ah crap. I only came to this site because I thought it was bad. Now I discover it was all a mistake.

Nothing that a little jolt of Internet Explorer can’t cure!
Debbie(aussie)
Never had a problem from ny iPhone.
Have some news. Hubby has been retrenched after 27 yeas with same company. Not sure if he is pleased or not. He hated it, but didn’t know what else to do. Now change has thrust upon him. I think it is mostly a good thing.

And that’s the conclusion of my 400 word explanation of why you should choose Nibbles if you aren’t going to just go ahead and adopt both of them… wait, what happened?
Pete Mack
Well, they don’t say FWP for nothing… God, what a nightmare.
mistermix
@dp: Administer rectally for best results.
PeakVT
Thanks, mistermix.
FlyingToaster
Don’t feel bad.
I lived through that in my previous iteration as webadmin for a group blog. The solution we found was to force-use a 3rd party image hosting site (IIRC photobucket).
Basically, Google™ is covering their asses. And their asses our bigger than ours, even after childbearing.
I just told Firefox to ignore this shit already.
SmallAppliance+3 (hoping WarriorGirl @age5.75 sleeps through the night, seeing that she’s hit another fucking growth spurt and I put HerrDoktorToaster to bet at 10)

Gracias. Much appreciated.

I blame Obama.
ETA: Thanks Mistermix
FlyingToaster
@Debbie(aussie): retrenched? Granted that I’ve been out of the freelance workforce for 6+ years, but that’s a new term.
Violet
Thanks for fixing it! FF still told me it was a bad site, but I told FF to ignore that.
Brother Shotgun of Sweet Reason
Thanks for your work on the site, mistermix.
Violet
FYI, My AVG antivirus just popped up and told me it detected a threat. Some frame object or something.
dance around in your bones
Muchas gracias, mistermix. I actually had to go to other websites for awhile….oh, the horror, the horror! I’d always rather be here :)

ty MM for the hard work in getting us righteous once again.
Punchy
And here I thought malware was a coat and scarf purchased from Erehwon.
Suzanne
The site still looks stupid on the iPad. Malware or no malware.
Felonius Monk
I’m sure this is the result of delaying the ObamaCare mandates plus NSA surveillance.
ThalarctosMaritimus
Since there are 2 thalarctoses (thalarcti? thalarctodes?) here now, let’s see if FYWP lets me change my nym to avoid confusion.
Anne Laurie
Thanks, MisterMix!
Higgs Boson's Mate
Thank you, mistermix.

@FlyingToaster:
We use the same word in Malaysian English. You Americans would say “laid off”.

@namekarB: Oh baby, this community needs the likes of you.

In Firefox — Tools -> Option -> Security. Uncheck ‘Block reported attack sites’
Rob Wolfe
Nicely done.
Having been through this myself I appreciate the work involved in getting this kind of nonsense fixed.
Sister Rail Gun of Warm Humanitarianism
If some people are randomly seeing iframes (I haven’t, yet), then the server itself may be compromised.
wolvesvalley
Firefox still reporting BJ as an attack site at 5:58 a.m. Eastern time.
Ivan X
Safari too (it uses google advisory).
Betty Cracker
I’m still getting the Chrome message.
Omnes Omnibus
Still getting the FF message.
Redshirt
Take off and nuke it from orbit, yaddayadda.
FlyingToaster
@Amir Khalid: I’d figured out “made redundant”, but retrenched sounds really, really vile. Given modern corporations, it surely is.
Luthe
If it helps, Chrome told me the offending bit of malware had .de as the end of its domain name.
wesindc
Use Sucuri if you aren’t already. I’ve been using them for a client for a couple months and I haven’t had any infected sites since.
Sarah in Brooklyn
I’m still getting malware warnings on Chrome. What should I be doing??
lurker dean
oh no – betty’s “cole eating pizza” masterpiece was one of the affected images. NOOOOO!!

I am not seeing any of the postings for today on my RSS reader.
