I will attempt to get verdant spheriods. But I make no promises.
schrodinger's cat
I has a big jealous, why we no has meetups in Mass?
Redshirt
PsiFighter +360
schrodinger's cat
What kind of food at the meet-up? Gooshie fuds or Crunchie foods?
Citizen_X
@Redshirt: I demand a picture of PsiFighter in his cups.
Anne Laurie
@schrodinger’s cat: Feel free to announce one!
Seriously, I’ve got the party-organizing capabilities of a kitten with the runs (to recycle a John D. MacDonald line) but anybody on this corner of the country wants to propose a venue and a date, it will be front-paged. And I’ll make an earnest attempt to show up, although as a non-drinker, I can’t offer recommendations on that front.
Arclite
We need a Honolulu BJ meetup. It’s hard for us islanders to get any place else.
Yatsuno
@Citizen_X: There will be liveblogging. And possibly lots of pics. As long as I’m not in any of them.
PsiFighter37
@Arclite: I’m going to be in Kona mid-late August…wrong island I know, but it’s as close as I’ll get to Honolulu this year.
Just Some Fuckhead
I won’t be able to make it – baby shower.
KmCO
Have there been any meet-ups in the central/mountain states?
the Conster
Good grief there are so many of us BJers in the Boston area – let’s do it!! Does it make sense to organize a meet up downtown or in the outskirts? Parking is such a PITA downtown – what about Waltham? There are so many great restaurants on Moody Street.
Gravenstone
@Citizen_X: I doubt the existence any other kind.
Scamp Dog
How about Denver? I know there are a few of us, from commenters talking about what they did (and where) during the election.
lojasmo
Off topic, but my best buddy had a HUGE ST elevation myocardial infarction. Flush occlusion of the proximal LAD (widdowmaker) with copious thrombus.
He was seen in my lab, and I was able to request an operator who is, very likely THE most famous cardiologist in the entire world.
He’s doing fine. If you can call parkinsons at 32, and a MI at 43 fine.
ruemara
*sigh* No one ever wants to meet in NorCal. No, not the Bay Area, actually Northern. That being said, 2nd interview over. And now, the waitings.
@lojasmo: He got elevated and had a heart attack with a flush on the occasion approximate to the widowmaker with a lot of thumbs.
Best of health to him but can you translate the latter sentence into English?
KmCO
@Scamp Dog: Here’s another interested Denverite.
Violet
@lojasmo: I thought Michael DeBakey died in 2008. Glad your friend is doing okay and that you were able to help him.
Mnemosyne
@Yatsuno:
Make every effort to get them. They really helped at the LA meetup, though they kept trying to blow away.
the Conster
@efgoldman:
LOL. There’s something very New Englandy about that attitude – we’re VERY slow to warm up to folks, but, once you’re inside the circle, you’re in for life and we will lay down in traffic for you. Us Bostonians don’t attach to others lightly.
ETA: Framingham has a John Harvard’s brew pub – right off the Pike, Rt. 9 and Rt. 30. That would be really convenient too. Especially for me :)
Politically Lost
@ruemara:
How far north? I’m in wine country. I had a great time at the Berkeley meet up with Doug J. Why not try to get one going up here?
Yatsuno
@Mnemosyne: I’ll see what I can do. I’d hate to use MikeJ and his BoSox cap for direction. That might cause issues with our esteemed guest.
Violet
@Mnemosyne: OT–wanted to mention I’m going to my Endocrinologist this week. I’ll report back when/if I hear from them about my thyroid bloodwork if anything has changed after the diet change. I’m quite curious about it myself. Thought you might find it interesting after our various discussions on it and other health stuff.
Last time I saw him he said he “wasn’t a fan of wheat”, which caught me completely by surprise, so I’m going to ask him for more details this time.
CaseyL
I intend to be there, as opposed to being square.
I will have spent the day at the Ballard Sea Fest, tasting wine and swilling beer. Y’all will have some catching up to do before I even get there.
CaseyL
uh… make that Ballard Seafood Fest. Dammit, no Edit button, probably because I’m here via IE.
ranchandsyrup
You should blow up Betty’s portrayal of the Cole family into a poster. It’s that good.
Elie
I’ll have to catch you when you do this again after I move back in August. Have a great time for me until then!
SiubhanDuinne
@efgoldman: One of my Big Car Trips (likely next spring) will be to New England and the Atlantic provinces. Once I have a better idea of dates and itinerary I’ll let AL or someone know. Would love to meet as many BJers as care to get together (not that my plans should stop anyone from meeting early and often before that, of course).
raven
@PsiFighter37: Fuzzy on the Die Hard has a brand new boat!
Just Some Fuckhead
Here’s more information about the Virginia meet-up. I can get up to 6 guests in.
Comrade Nimrod Humperdink
Might have attempted the Seattle meetup in the past, but that’s 15+ hours of flying away these days. You still thinking you may have to relocate, Yuts?
dollared
@Yatsuno: Regrets. I’ll be doing the chicken dance at a wedding in Wisconsin.
raven
@SiubhanDuinne: You gotta go to Newport and stroll on the Cliff Walk!
Comrade Nimrod Humperdink
@Just Some Fuckhead: if George Allen shows up you don’t get any sympathy from me
JGabriel
OT, but:
Pat Robertson via Mediaite:
I’m not sure what Pat Robertson has against Regurgitated Americans, but if he’s against them, then I’m proud to call myself one.
Also, I may be wrong about this since I haven’t read it from cover to cover, but I’m pretty sure there’s nothing in the Bible about God condoning terrestrial upchucking as a preferred form of punishment.
Yatsuno
@Comrade Nimrod Humperdink: I would LOVE to be a tax advisor out of an embassy somewhere, but those are primo jobs that are difficult as all get out to obtain. Plus there isn’t one for Australia, which is a shame since there is a growing American ex-pat community. There’s an office in Beijing though.
SiubhanDuinne
@raven: Oh, thanks! Newport is on the agenda, I will add the Cliff Walks to my notes. And over the winter, while the rest of you are planning your gardens, i’ll be working out how many miles in a day I can realistically drive, what side trips I want to make, what friends might put me up for a night or two, etc. Believe it, i’ll be asking for suggestions!
SiubhanDuinne
@efgoldman: Okay, then!! Thanks!
SiubhanDuinne
@efgoldman: Was any of “High Society” filmed there? Looks familiar.
ChaseBears
Hmmm, are lurkers welcome?
Yatsuno
@ChaseBears: We had a few lurkers at the last one. So by all means come on along!
MikeJ
@Yatsuno:
Half the crowd at Safeco tonight (and for the next three) will be wearing them. I am pairing mine with a Seattle Rainiers Tee.
Comrade Nimrod Humperdink
@Yatsuno: shame, I recommend Melbourne. Expensive as hell, but speaking as a Washingtonian, it feels a lot like home. Right down to otherwise calm people getting very ragey during peak traffic
Comrade Nimrod Humperdink
@MikeJ: man I miss Safeco garlic fries
Yatsuno
@Comrade Nimrod Humperdink: A friend of mine just lived in Brisbane for six months on a contract from work. When I asked why she came home, she said, “HOT!!!!”. She lives in Atlanta now and grew up part of her life in South Dakota. I told her she was nuts, but then again it made it easier for her to get back when her brother was in hospital.
I’ve heard decent things about Melbourne from FH #1. I might have to discuss with him further. I am working on a credential that would make me candy down there. And not a medical one.
cckids
Well, my daughter (who is an occasional lurker here) will be in Seattle this weekend, on the north end of her 5-week road trip. But I doubt you all want a pretty blonde 18-year old being a drag on the party. :)
Comrade Nimrod Humperdink
Brisbane isn’t just hot, it’s humid too. Melbourne can get bad in January/February (Singing Jingle Bells in shorts around a BBQ took a while for this Spokane boy to get used to) but it’s pretty agreeable the rest of the year
MikeJ
@Comrade Nimrod Humperdink: Did you hear what the idiot FYs did when they got Ichiro? They started selling the “Suzuki roll“. The Ichiroll is the one true major league sushi. How on earth do you sell sushi in his honor and not call it the Ichiroll?
Southern Beale
Aw shucks, wish I could be at that one as I was a couple years ago!!! Boo…. have a beer for me, y’all.
Comrade Nimrod Humperdink
@MikeJ: Sodo Mojo > Soho Mojo
Scamp Dog
@KmCO: What part of town are you in? I’m in Thornton (north side of the metro Denver).
Angela
What about a Philly meet up?
PsiFighter37
@cckids: She’s welcome to come, but I do believe that is under the age of drinking – so she might feel a bit left out of the fun.
@Angela: I went to school in Philly and used to go to the Drinking Liberally events that were held on Lombard (I think the bar was at 16th Street). Lot of good joints to do a meetup in that city.
cckids
@PsiFighter37: I know, and she’s there to hang with a friend who moved to Bellevue 4 years ago – they’ll be catching up.
Yatsuno
@PsiFighter37: Pike does have a restaurant area, so we can arrange to sit there to accommodate her. But yeah no slipping her drinks. We have to send her home relatively intact after all.
lojasmo
@ruemara:
Completely blocked left anterior descending coronary artery. Full of clot.
LAD goes down the front of the left ventricle. The left ventricle pumps blood to all parts of the body but the lungs.
Very important artery.
lojasmo
@Violet:
Wouldn’t do to have a dead cardiologist in the cath lab.
Mnemosyne
@Violet:
I’ll be curious to find out. My doctor strongly discouraged me from trying it and she’s usually pretty into holistic stuff, so it seems that opinions vary, to say the least.
Anne Laurie
@the Conster:
Only problem in Waltham on a weekend might be parking, although it’s been a while since we were down there (from Woburn). You’re right about the restaurants, though!
Framingham would also be do-able, with sufficient notice. Anywhere between Nashua to the north and F’ham to the east, really, preferably outside of Boston proper (not sure there’s any commentors closer to the Bay than Arlington, that I know of).
Neither I nor my chauffer (the Spousal Unit) are drinkers, but we don’t mind watching other people imbibe — as long as we can get snax.
the Conster
@Anne Laurie: @efgoldman:
OK, I’m in either way since both are convenient to me. When? September?
KmCO
@Scamp Dog: Right now I’m centrally located (Downing and Speer area), but I may be moving up to Boulder in a few months.
Linnaeus
Wow, I might be able to make this one.
Scamp Dog
@KmCO: OK, so there’s two of us, which is a start. Send me an email at n o r m _ h e c h t @ f o r e t h o u g h t . n e t and we can start figuring things out. Just delete all the spaces in the email address, I hope to avoid generating any more spam emails than I already get. I’m about to sign off for the evening, but I’ll check this thread tomorrow. Denver Juicers, get in touch!
Anne Laurie
@efgoldman: Have I mentioned recently, I’m lysdexic?
Anne Laurie
@the Conster: How ’bout next Wednesday, at the Watch City Brewery? See this thread for further discussion, and I’ll front-page when things firm up.
(Assuming we don’t all hate each other on sight, we can do it again — maybe at Solea? — come September.)
Pete Mack
I’ll be there!
