NYMag has a list of “Twenty Things Worth Knowing About Toronto’s Crack-Smoking Mayor Rob Ford“.
It is an excellent list, but the phrase ‘naked mopping’ does not appear.

Crack takin’?
I thought you said Back Bacon.

I know John Cole.
John Cole is a friend of mine.
You, Mr. Ford, are no John Cole.

That’ll teach someone not to bigfoot the Friday night recipe posts.

Boy, for a professional actress, Ileana Douglas (this month’s Fri. night TCM host) sure is lousy at reading from a teleprompter.
Hill Dweller
Does anyone here watch Bill Maher’s show? If so, can you verify if Andrew Ross Sorkin, purported journalist, said Obama knew about the IRS problems before the election?
I’ve seen a couple on twitter claim he said it, but would like verification.

Amazing how often bipolar-ish politicos wind up being strung out on coke.

@ruemara: I think we need to see if Ford has deformed hams sewn on to the ends of his arms before we can say.
Hill Dweller
@NotMax: I love TCM, but their selection of actors to handle various hosting duties are awful.
Drew Barrymore is horrendous when co-hosting The Essentials.
Yatsuno
@Hill Dweller: The report I saw says that Treasury knew, but nothing linking that to Obama. It would surprise me if he did know about it, at the time it would have been an obscure operation of one field office. Hardly worth briefing the President over.
trollhattan
Hollee shit, Cleetus, we got us some formattin’ buttons. Let’s see what she’ll do.
Can somebody remind me why anybody thinks using the Canadian tar sands is a good thing? Does this keep zombie Bin Laden at the ocean floor?
Hill Dweller
@Yatsuno: I had heard about Treasury being informed, but nothing about the WH, which made me think Ross Sorkin’s claims(if he made them) were baseless.

@Hill Dweller
You have no idea how pleased it makes me to finally hear someone else feels that way about D. Barrymore’s spot on TCM. Thank you, thank you.
Her Valley Girl inflection is particularly noisome.
Alec Baldwin was pretty good, and it was evident he had done his cinephile homework.
YellowJournalism
@Hill Dweller: I may be remembering wrong, but I think he was posing it as a question with strong implications that Obama may indeed have known before the election.
I might’ve remembered more clearly if the insanity of SE Cupp’s second amendment rant had not blocked out the rest of the episode. Favorite part: when she went on about how he’s been a gun owner for ten years, which makes her an expert on the issue versus advocates for gun control, like the man sitting next to her, Michael Moore. (I thought he was going to choke her at one point.)
And in typical fashion, Bill Maher went on about the unfairness o the IRS targeting the Tea Party without mentioning that they weren’t targeted alone. Moore pointed out that liberals and liberal groups have been targeted for years.
Maher also got smacked down by both the audience and his guests for trying to question Prince Harry’s paternity TMZ-style.

The man makes a Boris Johnson x Donald Trump mutant clone with a Chris Christie appetite implant look a viable template for a meaningful upgrade.
Old Dan and Little Ann
@Hill Dweller: The show was especially obnoxious tonight. I was more interested in Sippy Cupp’s claim that mass shootings are down in the last 30 years. Phew.
Joseph Nobles
@Hill Dweller: Departing IRS Commissioner Miller said today that he informed a couple of people at Treasury he was looking into the allegations July 2012. This was in the context of a number of internal audits he was having done. He did not inform them of any conclusions until well after the election.
So we’re still miles away from “Obama drank GOP’s milkshake.”
Hill Dweller
@YellowJournalism: I can’t stand Maher. He knows virtually nothing about the topics they agree to discuss, and is completely clueless on any tangential subjects. For that reason alone I haven’t watched his show but a couple if times in the last few years.
The acting IRS Commissioner said today during the hearing they didn’t target the Tea Party. I think he said the number of Tea Party groups given extra scrutiny was just 30(out of 300 total).
Ross Sorkin fancies himself a real reporter. If he was making baseless accusations, I hope someone smacks him down(rhetorically).
Joseph Nobles
@YellowJournalism: Maher and a few other people need to look at this recent picture of Harry:

He’s bending forward, listening to some kids, so the camera angle is much different than we’re used to seeing. Prince Charles just leaps out of his face at this angle.

Too late for Cole’s thread because I was busy watching James Caan & Tuesday Weld in Thief. A heist movie where the heist isn’t the main thing. I think I’ve mentioned that capers are my favorite movies, with heists a close second. This one was fun. Settling in to Our Man in Havana now.

Anne, you’re great. This post reminds me of Walt Kowalski in Gran Torino when he says, “Ever notice how you come across somebody once in a while you shouldn’t have fucked with? That’s me.”
Higgs Boson's Mate
@trollhattan:
Hmm, tons of high sulfur crap right alongside a river that flows into Lake Erie. What could go wrong?
Yatsuno
@Joseph Nobles: Look at pictures of Prince Edward when he was about Harry’s age. They look exactly alike. I brought this up with the NYD, that boy has been genetically tested to within an inch of his life. He’s definitely legitimate.

@Joseph Nobles:
“Salvador Dali, please pick up the white courtesy phone…”
MattR
@Hill Dweller: His stand up is pretty good and his New Rules are sometimes fantastic, but I agree with you regarding the rest of the show. At this point, I pretty much watch the intro monologue and the ending New Rules segment and just fast forward through all the idiocy that usually pervades the interviews and panel discussion, stopping occassionally with the hope that I might hear a worthwhile argument. The silver lining is that now it only takes 15-20 minutes to watch the show.
Villago Delenda Est
OK, is it just me, or does Rob Ford look like he might be a McKenzie brother?
He definitely looks like something that might have been hatched in the Elsinore brewery…

From Bob Dylan’s Outlaw Blues on Bringing It All Back Home–“I might look like Robert Ford but I feel just like Jesse James.”
The prophet Nostradumbass
@scav: I think you’re being unfair to Beano Boris, comparing him to those other oiks. He’s an idiot, to be sure, but more of the buffoon type than a nasty bully. Weirdly, he was actually born in the US.
scav
@The prophet Nostradumbass: Well, it was mostly the football pratfall and the trapped on the zipwire incident — that and the hair color that really fused that connection. The personality + hair is more Trumpish, although with extra personal yuck.
Eta: just thought of this: a certain lack of judgement might also be shared.

Open thread? Okay, um, I guess I’ll
stir up a stormgently mention that when I visited this site from my iPad, the new mobile theme did load (wow. different.), but I wasn’t able to navigate to any posts. It was as though any hyperlinkable navigation element had lost its linkie mojo*. All I could do was scroll up and down to read the blog post titles and the 10-20 word intros for each post.
The, um, menu thing (a popover navigation element that appears from upper left side) did appear, yes (alas, I could not find a way to make it disappear, other than reloading the site, ouch), but the menu thing’s list of recent blog posts weren’t
clickabletappable, either.I’d offer to take screenshots and email them and stuff, if there’s more troubleshooting to be done, but I’ll be preoccupied by attending my niece’s college graduation over the next coupla days. Which means that the only way I’ll read this site if I must duck out from festivities to feed my internets habit on Balloon Juice and other site habits during that time is via iPad, which, if no-linkie-mojo continues, means I won’t be reading it at all.
* Go ahead. Read that sentence sounding like Austin Powers. I dare you.

Now reading and commenting on this from the iPad. Worked this time. Weird. Carry on.
I guess the site’s iPad theme got its linkie mojo back!
Just One More Canuck
I disagree with the premise in the title of the NYMag article – there is nothing about Rob Ford that is worth knowing

Yea! Washington D.C. can finally make crack jokes about somebody else’s mayor.

Ford would make an exemplary congressional republican.

@ulee: Hey, I saw Dylan a couple of months ago, and he’s definitely not looking like Robert Ford these days, at least not the one in Toronto, who, by the way, looks a lot like another famous Canadian (or at least a role played by another famous Canadian):

Bit late to the party but figured an actually amusing quiz on Slate: Who Said It: Toronto Mayor Rob Ford or Simpsons Mayor Diamond Joe Quimby?.
Enjoy.

Barry’s CV is impressive. Not so for the coke addled mayor of Toronto.
