My name is Jenna and I need to find a new home for my dog. I took her on when my brother had a baby, and I can’t financially support her anymore. I’ve posted her on Craigslist, but I’m worried that she’ll go to an unsavory home on there…
I think she’d do the best in a home where she can run around outside a lot, in a back yard or something – she’s a high energy 1.2 year old chocolate lab, around 48 lbs. Her name is Koda, she’s up to date on all of her shots, has all of her vet records, and is fixed, microchipped, and registered with the city.
Koda was trained at LA Dogworks. She is a submissive pee-er but with time and effort this is diminishing. Basically I just make sure she’s “empty” when she comes inside, and let her mingle with people before they start giving her attention.
Other than that issue, she’s an amazing dog. Very sweet, quick to learn, loves training, and a wonderful companion. If I were older, with a more stable home and disposable income, I’d keep her forever – but my main concern is for her well being and I simply cannot provide that.
If you are interested in Koda, or know someone who might be, contact me at anne laurie (at) verizon.net (click on my name in the right-hand column) and I’ll put you touch.
The Dangerman
Lovely, the dog is!
Oh, KODA! My bad.
Kristine
FB’d and tweeted.
I would think a Lab Rescue group might be an option.
geg6
OMG, I wish like hell we weren’t most of a continent away! We’d come and get her right this minute! She’s exactly what we’re looking for!
Anyone in Cali driving to PA any time soon?
Yutsano
ITZ A PUPPEH! ITZ CHOCOLATE! ITZ A CHOCOLATE PUPPEH!! SQUEE!!
Yutsano
@geg6: Maybe we could arrange a relay service. We do have BJers all over the country who I bet would be more than willing to help ship the little guy.
Juju
I’d take her in a heartbeat, but I’m in NC. Does she know how to fly?
geg6
@Yutsano:
What an adventure she would have on that trip!
Maybe we could get her to Austin and Cole could bring her home to us. He lives fairly close to us. I’m kidding but not really. We seriously want a young Lab. She’d be perfect.
Jane2
@geg6: A relay could get that puppy to you lickety-split. BJers are up to the task, I’m sure.
raven
Yea cuz Austin is right next to LA.
geg6
@Jane2:
If no one local wants her and we can find a way to get her here, we’d take her. We can keep us as a last resort possibility.
Jane2
@geg6: If you are willing to take a chance on flying her out (my kitties flew here from the breeder and it was fine), I’m sure the cash could be raised as well.
Yutsano
@Jane2: I’d be more than willing to commit some scratch to that as well. I’d gladly help in any way I can.
geg6
@raven:
Well, Austin is closer to LA than Pittsburgh is, so a relay might be easier. But I wouldn’t trust Cole to bring her home without some massive but non-fatal accident, probably involving a hotel shower.
Jane2
@geg6: and a hotel worker’s mop.
jenn
Sweet Koda. Well, I’d be willing to drive a leg of the relay if it were going I-80. Hope she finds a good home!
geg6
@Jane2:
Well, I’d have no problem with the idea of flying her here, but our budget would. But I am serious that, if we could get her here, we’d take her.
Argo
@raven: You are one negative dude sometimes. Most times.
raven
@geg6: You got that right.
Jane2
@geg6: I checked Delta’s prices…about 300 bucks to fly her cargo. That could be raised in minutes on BJ. I’m sure in!
raven
@Argo: Yea,except when I give money EVERY fucking time there is a pet bleg. Fuck you.
raven
@Jane2: Does that include the crate? Proly not. At 48lbs she’s need a medium.
TaMara (BHF)
@geg6: My guess is there will be a BJ caravan before the night is out, but just in case I posted this to FB – btw all my LA friends, I think we know every dog lover in Southern Cal.
But my guess is she’s gonna be a PA dog.
MazeDancer
@geg6: @geg6:
Get your PayPal account ready. If it’s 400 bucks for flight and crate that’s what it is. 40 people at 10 bucks, 20 at 20, 10 for 40, there will be a BJ math that works.
Fancy breed dogs get flown all the time. Work it out with Anne Laurie and the poster. And we can look forward to pics like the happy story of Garnet who took the long road trip to her forever home https://balloon-juice.com/2012/12/21/a-christmas-story-and-you-made-it-happen/
Mrs. WhatsIt
I’ll chip in! We just rescued a border collie. After seeing (a terrible) photo online, we just knew she was the one. Sometimes things are just meant to be…
satby
Rescue transports run all over the country almost every day. I have midwest transport contacts, can Jenna connect with rescue groups in her area to arrange transport east? It takes a lot if coordination but it can be done. I’ve driven a quad state area so I can do an Iowa-IL to MI-Ohio leg.
Arclite
Beautiful animal.
Kristine
I’m in for help with costs.
This is fun.
MattR
Unfortunately, I am not along the route so I can’t help with any driving but I would be happy to chip in for gas or other costs. Not so sure if I am willing to pay to send a dog that young (and with a submissive urination issue) on a cross country flight
Yutsano
@MattR: Not unattended anyway. But that would be worth getting the seat on the flight back just because of that.
Mary G
I am in So Cal and thinking of getting a puppeh, but I am disabled and need a small/old/disabled/couch potato type, since I’m not up to much playing and have a small yard. I’d be happy to chip in with costs to fly her as well. She is adorable.
MattR
@Yutsano: I don’t know of any airline that will allow a dog that big in the cabin.
Frankly, I am surprised that airlines allow any animals in the cabin and sharing the air with the rest of the passengers, given their overreaction to peanut allergies. If my mother was sharing a cross country flight with any cat (and some dogs), they would probably be forced to make an emergency landing when she had an asthma attack mid way through.
Princess Leia
@Mary G: Hey Mary, I am fostering a small old, disabled couch dog. She is a total love bug!
Mary G
@Princess Leia: Where do you live?
ETA: does she get along with cats?
Princess Leia
@Mary G: She’s living with a bunch of cats- doesn’t care. I live in Orange County, but I am mobile.
trollhattan
Oh my gosh, that’s a cute puppeh.
TaMara (BHF)
I love you people. Two adoptions in one night. Prrrrfect.
raven
So,did any thing happen?
lojasmo
@raven:
Careful. Corner Stone’s going to come in and call you angry, or some fucking thing.
I’m down for some cash to move the dog, if it happens.
Need Moar paypalz.
Will somebody shoot me an email if something happens?
my usernym at gmail dot com.
satby
What did we all decide?? Cash for a flight or try to put a transport together? I’m in for either, so we just need to get a plan together.
geg6
@satby:
I just emailed Anne Laurie and we’ll see what happens from there.
ETA: You are having the same problem I have on my cell when posting here. It always says the comment didn’t post, but it almost always does. And then I post it again and look stoopid.
Juju
I’m in for some green pictures of dead presidents. I hope for a drive for the dog. Flying dogs cargo can be very hard on them.
My phone also says posting failure, but then it posts. I’m just about to see that message.
JustPeachyAndYou
I flights need to be arranged, I can recommend http://www.flypets.com. They’ve successfully flown several of my cats to various places. It’s cheaper if the shipper makes the arrangements (you have to pay a $25 application fee, but if the receiver does it, there’s an additional cost). They’ll correspond with both shipper and receiver to confirm a flight date/time that works for both, and they’ll send labels, detailed instructions, etc.
Michele C
@geg6: I’ll chip in with no problem for shipping. Just let me know.
Jenna Davant
@geg6: @Juju: I”m actually from Austin, I could drive her there in a heartbeat if it meant a good home for her!
B. Lehmann
I could help with shipping as well. Cute dog, seems like a nice personality.
My emergency back up dog literally showed up on my doorstep so I didn’t have to travel or pay adoption fees.
Jenna Davant
Also, she’s flown to Texas before just fine – I don’t know how she’d do in a cross country flight (I can barely sit still that long) but she has definitely flown halfway before without being traumatized or using the restroom in her kennel. This all sounds great though, I’m excited to figure this plan out! Thank you for all of your help, guys!
Juju
I’m in. Just let me know what, when and so on. I’m in NC, and I’d help drive, but geographically I don’t think I’m in the right place.
geg6
@Jenna Davant:
I emailed Anne Laurie about this. I really want the doggie and think she’s adorable. My John also is thrilled that we found exactly what we wanted. It’s going to take some logistics, so I’m hoping she’ll put up a post about it and we can figure out how we go about this.
Anne Laurie
Okay, everybody, I’m emailing Jenna and Geg6 — expect a post sometime this weekend looking for contributions to get Koda to Pennsylvania, if someone in Santa Monica doesn’t snap her up quickly!
Kristine
@Anne Laurie: Yea!!!!
Jenna Davant
Just wanted to give an update. We’re funded! We’ve got enough for the trip, the pre-flight vet checkup, a groom/nail trim, some bones to keep her occupied, and to ship a box of her things to Gail! Thank you all so much for your generosity. Gail and I have been talking about the trip and transition and I think we’ve found the perfect match for Koda. We’ve set March 17th as d-day – I’ll update as we get closer and I know Gail will let us all know when she’s there safely that day!
