Looks like America has found one man who does not need a 30 round magazine:
The Washington Metropolitan Police Department is investigating whether any city laws were violated when NBC’s David Gregory displayed what appeared to be a 30-round gun magazine on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, a spokesman confirmed to POLITICO.
“The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating this matter,” said police officer and spokesman Araz Alali in an interview Tuesday.
Continue ReadingWhen pressed on what the police department was investigating, Alali added, “The ‘Meet the Press’, David Gregory incident.”
“There are D.C. code violations, D.C. code restrictions on guns, ammunition. We are investigating this matter. Beyond the scope of that, I can’t comment any further,” he said.
Dumbest nation in the world.

So, are jack-booted thugs taking apart the ‘Meet The Press’ set? I’m getting happy just thinking about that.
c u n d gulag
Yes, because David Gregory, without the gun, but with the magazine, could have raised a few lumps on Wayne LaPierre’s thick cranium, if he got into a fit of rage during the interview.
Actually, I might have paid to see that!
Or, manually inserted the bullets into LaPierre’s ample ass.
THAT, I wouldn’t have paid to see.
Or, thrown the bullets at the head of the NRA, until he had a cardiac arrest from ducking.
SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSHHHHH! ! ! ! !

I saw a bit on this on 4chan’s /k/ board. Many of the board’s denizens were gleeful at the possibility of making a stink about this. Funny how that works.

Heh.
A Christmas present from the DC Metro police. How lovely.

This won’t lead to anything. We need to start a campaign for David Gregory to do an exposé on the nation’s drug laws.
bootsy
Hey, we’re only the dumbest nation if we let David Gregory represent us.
He’s also dull as dirt, and a supreme bootlicker of old republican man-ass. So I guess he could represent the Washington press corpse.
GregB
Can we petition to have him deported too?
BGinCHI
Gregory probably thought “30 round magazine” was a boxing publication before Newtown.
Sargent Pepper's Spray
Why wasn’t John McCain there to disarm him? Doesn’t he live on that set?
Narcissus
Pointing out societal and cultural problems to your betters is the worst offense of all, even for courtesans like dancin’ Dave.
cathyx
I hope Gregory owns it.
El Caganer
If that was the worst thing that happened in DC on Sunday, it must be the safest city in America.

I take it the studio where they did the interview is in Washington DC. A criminal prosecution, while within the authorities’ power, would probably be overkill here; it seems there was no criminal intent on the part of Meet The Press. And DC Metro PD is surely wise enough to exercise its discretion and just remind NBC about the letter of the relevant law. That’s what I expect they will eventually do.
But it’s not actually dumb for the police to investigate this, though; they would need to have a case file as a basis for recommending (or not recommending) prosecution to the DA.

A magazine (or “clip” for you military wannabes like John Cole) without the firearm it’s designed to service is not very dangerous.
However, mate the two up, and you’ve got trouble, right here in River City, that’s trouble with a T that rhymes with G that stands for GUN!
Paddy
This started right after the interview. The RW blogs were looking for something concrete to criticize Gregory with. Tried to keen about his kids going to a well guarded school and when that didn’t take the glommed onto the magazine. It ran around the usual suspects (Malkin, Blaze etc) and I guess they finally convinced the cops to look into it. Total waste of e

well all is well as long as no careers were lost……..

This may be the best thing David Gregory has ever said (it’s probably appeared elsewhere on BJ already):
By the way, if I were a member of the Congressional Mental Health Caucus, I’d have already sent a letter to the NRA asking for their support for any upcoming or new legislation.

It is impossible to have a Public discussion without immediately sinking to the lowest common trivialization.
Because FREE-dumbs!

The only reason David Gregory and the rest of the Village gave a crap about Newtown is because it happened to little kids in a white upper class town in Connecticut close to where a bunch of banksters/hedge funds and trust fund babies live. If it had been in a minority neighborhood in Texas or Illinois it would have been a two day story with no big interview with Whyne LaPig.
nellcote
slow news day for Politico?
Lancelot Link
Probably the same people who called the FBI on Erik Loomis called the cops this time, too.
gbear
@RSA: Gregory actually said that on TV? I wouldn’t have thought he had it in him.
Did Gregory say who brought in or gave him the magazine for the show?
Jon
Do you think Fluffy would survive in prison without soap on a rope?
Jon
@mai naem: Who cares why they care?

I suspect D.G. will have a strong 1st amendment defense on this. Showing it for information purposes on a debate about gun laws? Extremely in the 1st amendment zone.
gbear
The question Gregory should have asked LaPierre was why he wasn’t out advocating for every black teen to carry a gun after Trayvon Martin was shot by George Zimmerman.
Jon
@gbear: laPierre answered that. When he says criminals shouldn’t have guns he just means blaaaahs.

Great reformulation of lowest common denominator. I’m going to borrow it.

This is Colonel Mustard’s doing. Payback for Liz Warren handing him and his race baiting doppelganger, Scott Brown, their sorry asses. So, why don’t we arrest a libtard pundit for payback. That’s like arresting your own left nut.

@Jon:
Prezacktly. The sainted Ronaldus Magnus signed a pretty strict gun control law in CA AFTER the Black Panthers paraded in Sacramento brandishing longarms, which after all is what the 2nd Amendment is about.

Is this going to be like when the wingers hated Dan Rather so that meant he was a liberal?

The gun nuts are going apeshit about this.

Me either. I didn’t see it, but I read the transcript.

While I cannot agree with the avenue I want to go on the record as whole-heartedly endorsing any effort to send Dancin’ Davie to the big house for a long, long, time.
Sure, it wouldn’t cure the disease that is our DC media but it might be a start
TS
@gbear:
Perfect – absolutely perfect – but Gregory would never think of something that would leave LaPierre speechless – never.

No half-added deed goes unpunished.
Also, Dave had to be reminded of his place. Can’t have the house servants getting uppity.

@gbear:
Now THIS is a brilliant idea worth pushing on every talking head who might even be considering having Wayne LaPierre on their show for an interview over the coming days and weeks. Hello, Tweety are you picking up on this?
Odie Hugh Manatee
Righties have been bitching about this since Sunday. I saw the teahadist tribal smoke signals going out about this at Redstate a couple of days ago. If he broke the law then I hope Stretch is nailed to the wall for it but only because his brethren on the right are calling for his scalp. If Gregory wants to massage McCain (and other conservative) scrotum every weekend on national TV then let him pay the price for polishing their turds when they turn on him.
He deserves it.
Ben Cisco
@Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant): Should have read “half-assed.”
Ironic that for the unpardonable sin of asking the MINIMUM followup to LaPew’s dodging, the Beltway’s #1 fluffer gets pantsed.

@Schlemizel: My thoughts exactly. We ain’t gonna get him for his actual crimes, but we know he’s guilty so might as well get him on some bullshit.

I used to tell a joke when praised for something I didn’t do or was no big deal:
My uncle was hung for stealing horses. On the gallows he was asked if he had any last words. His statement, “I did not do this thing for which I have been condemned, but I have done so many other things that I guess I have it coming”

go for it.

If the Goddess Justice has a sense of humor, Gregory will serve at least some time behind bars. Even a weekend would be funny enough.
Sammy
@Baud: How about a campaign tohave NBC dump the a** CLOWN Gregory because of his shilling, for the republican party?
Sammy
@mai naem: You know, I don’t think that Gregory even gives a damn about those kids. They aren’t his?
BruinKid
@TS: I think LaPierre would’ve then taken the opportunity to call for black teenagers arming themselves as well, because in his mind, he probably thinks that will mean more black-on-black violence leading to more of “them” getting killed.
And isn’t that sort of the point?
Keenan
@JWL: Hope about “just weekends” behind bars?

Can anyone explain why this shows we are the “dumbest nation in the world”?
I mean, David Gregory is dumb – I knew that. But this all sounds like a perfectly appropriate police response to a possible violation of the law. So, what gives?
