Don’t let Sarah, Proud and Tall see this.
General Stuck
Mercy, that video is gonna give John McCain a DADT coronary.
Corner Stone
Can we get another dick post with the fondling included please? Much to prefer, thank you.
redshirt
That’s like super navy gay, right?
PurpleGirl
Those guys suuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeee can move.
Short Bus Bully
Do not want. Just looks ghey. And not the funny ghey. The bad porn site kind…
Yutsano
Wow. My dad would shit himself watching that.
Matthew Reid Krell
That does not look like anything that would be produced by Navy boosters.
beltane
@General Stuck: But Lindsay Graham on the other hand…
Corner Stone
@Matthew Reid Krell:
What do you mean? Aren’t all Navy enlistees basically one umbrella in their drink away from being this kind of rabidly gay?
SFAW
@beltane:
Lindsay “Do You Think I Have Purty Eyes?” Graham would also have a coronary, but for a different reason.
General Stuck

Pure class!

@Corner Stone:
Shame on you! And there is NO truth to the vicious rumor that the Navy’s motto is “Never leave your buddy’s behind”.
Elmo
My beloved Chargers are playing for sole possession of first place in the AFC West, against the hated Broncos and the even more hated Manning. Where’s my NFL Open Thread?

Sadly, there is video of my shameful Gangnam style just this past weekend.

Expected wingnut response: “Hillary only said that because the Mooslim Kenyan Usurper threatened her family with vile consequences if she didn’t”
The Dangerman
Did you see “A Game of Honor“? Definitely worth viewing.
I used to work in the same building as Coach Ellerson; he’s a first class act. Army’s got a great coach, but a better man.
ETA: Egads to that video; I was half expecting them to oil up and go play some beach volleyball.
dmsilev
@SFAW: And that’s supposed to influence Hillary “I had Vince Foster whacked” Clinton how?
Or am I going wrong by expecting consistency in wingnut conspiracy ravings?

I read your comment and immediately thought it should be one of the rotating tag lines here.
Political Observer
What’s NOT so funny is that Obama’s defense cuts will reduce our navy to its smallest size since 1917.
Nicole
That one shot was a total shout-out to the Cher video, right? You know what I’m talking about.
SFAW
@dmsilev:
Why would you expect them to start now?
dmsilev
@Political Observer: And it is of course vitally important to have a strong battle line just in case the High Seas Fleet sorties from Kiel.
Mnemosyne
@Political Observer:
It’s funny, because we have these things now called “airplanes” and “helicopters” that we can use instead of ships to move people and weapons around. You should look them up sometime since you’re not familiar with them — they’re pretty amazing.
Hill Dweller
@Political Observer: The defense cuts were engineered by the Republicans when they threatened to intentionally destroy the full faith and credit of the country.
Nevertheless, do you think our 1917 Navy could, in any way, threaten our current Navy?
Again, I hope you are a parody poster. No one should have to go through life that insecure and ignorant.
SFAW
@Political Observer:
What IS funny is that you apparently believe that bullshit because Rmoney told you it was so, and he wouldn’t lie, for Pete’s sake.
some guy
@Political Observer:
that cracks me up, actually.

@Political Observer:
You mean the defense cuts that the Republicans in the House voted for? Freaking representative democracy, how does it work?

I wonder how many super carriers and nuclear submarines we had in 1917.
I’m surprised he didn’t complain about not having more battleships.
Elmo
@Mnemosyne:
Flimsy newfangled contraptions that will do absolutely nothing to maintain our vital presence in the Philippines. There’s nothing like a dreadnought to intimidate the Yellow Peril. Bully!

I would give someone five dollars to repost this video with the Village People’s “In The Navy” instead of “Oppan Gangnum Style.”

My old man was a “Mustang” enlisted sailor on a WWII Destroyer, went to college after the war, got his degree and a commission. He hated the fucking academy pukes:

But seriously, if we have less than 1000 ships, how will we bring back Helen of Troy?

Why, why WHY do you let PO hijack every thread s/he/it shows up in? Stop it.
The cannon between the legs just says it all. Men are just so ridiculously simple to grok, yet here we all are on the brink of catastrophe while we laugh at their silly antics. WTF.

Surprised Sarah P&T wasn’t all over this…metaphorically of course.

Can’t even get the steps right, silly Navy. Just one step better than air force (SO is ACAV, so ha ha ha!)

@Chris: Not to mention spearmen. Nothing like a good well-formed phalanx for protecting one’s walled city. Clearly, Obama has left us open to attack from the

@Political Observer:As someone who spent 30 years in the Navy, go fuck yourself. The numbers are meaningless vice capability, dipshit.
Chris
@TOP123:
You forgot the best thing about Salamis – the Athenians only had between three and four hundred ships, so, three to four times less than the Persians (and also less than the U.S. Navy in 1918). Didn’t stop them from fucking exterminating the Persians.
Perhaps numbers really DON’T tell the full story…
(I also love that the “boy-lovers and philosophers” of Athens crushed the Persians while the badass warriors of Sparta got crushed themselves. Seriously, the story of “300” is “Warrior Society spends entire life dedicating itself to war, then loses.” Gotta love that).
TaMara (BHF)

@Mike in NC: what is important is how many ship builders will contribute and how many of their workers will vote. Otherwise it makes no sense to have a naval arms race at this point in time.
Elmo
@SFAW:
Hey, I made my hijacking effort but it didn’t take. Chargers up 17 zip on three turnovers, including two muffed kicks and a pick-six. Happy elmo +2.
PurpleGirl
How many carrier groups did we have in 1917? How many carrier groups do we have now? I think the current distribution of ships is very different from 1917 and way more powerful than what we had in 1917. And, as Mnemosyne said, we have airplanes and (black) helicopters now.
Corner Stone
@SFAW: See? Now when you said “throwing” I was like, “Yeah, dude’s gonna tear him down!”.
But then when you said, “chucking” I was like, “Goddamn that’s fucking racist!”.
SFAW
@Elmo:
Chargers? You call that a threadjack attempt? It takes at least the Pats, Jets, or Stillers to do that. Chargers might as well be the Toledo Mud Hens, for all their threadjacking value.
smintheus
@PurpleGirl: Huge numbers of ships in 1918 were just troop transports.
Higgs Boson's Mate
@Cacti:
Some of the historical reading I’ve done included contemporary descriptions of how the Spartans lived day-to-day, how they raised their offspring, and how they governed themselves. I came away wondering why only 300 of them wanted to commit suicide at Thermopylae.
SFAW
@PurpleGirl:
Ah, but if Mittens wins, they’ll be changed to white helicopters. Whether he has chopper elevators installed in the WHITE House is as yet unknown.

@Political Observer: You’re not even really trying anymore.

@Cacti:
That’s basically what the troll is doing.
One nuclear armed and powered submarine is equal to how many World War I era battleships…..in terms of payload, I believe we need to use the term…mega.
Of course this “Obama’s cuts(r) are destroying the Navy” meme overlooks the fact that the cuts were asked for my the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
facts be damned because “Obambi is lazy and shiftless and will throw a lot of spears in the debate.”

@TaMara (BHF):
He’s changed. It used to be about the music, man.
Elmo
@SFAW:
Ya, but it’s MNF and they’re playing media darling Peyton Manning and the Broncos.
Oh, and they’re now up 24-0 at halftime. But I’m still only +2.

I despise the Mannings and all their works – Eli Weasel more than his brother. Peyton’s losing record and subterranean passer rating against my Charges is an endless source of pleasure to me.
SFAW
@Elmo:
Sounds like you got some issues there, amigo.
Chris
@Higgs Boson’s Mate:
The wonder of Warrior Societies is that for all that warmongering, they’re not actually that much more militarily efficient when push comes to shove. The Spartans got their ass handed to them in the Persian Wars, did better against Athens in the Peloponesian Wars but were beaten by Thebes shortly thereafter. And the Assyrians got their asses kicked by Babylon.
Personal theory: a culture that spends all its time and energy obsessing about war is a culture that doesn’t spend any time and energy thinking about anything else, which makes them vulnerable to anyone with a slightly more diverse skillset.
(E.G. the South investing in Officer-Gentlemen, versus the North investing in factories. War comes along, and wouldn’t you know it…)

@Elmo:
Oh, come on.
You know all those Super Bowls the Chargers haven’t won with Philip Rivers at QB? They wouldn’t have won them if they’d had Eli.
You want a QB who was taught by David Cutcliffe? You’ll have two chances to draft one in the next three years.
When Sean Renfree is drafted in the third round next April, fans who don’t know as much as they think they know will say “Sean who?” And then when his team beats their team like a drum for 12 years, they’ll get all pissed at their GM for not having the foresight to draft him.
On the other hand, by the day of the 2015 draft, everybody will know who Anthony Boone is.

B-b-but they had two coed midshipmen in that one shot and they didn’t look like ravening lesbian feminist terrorists from a 1980s post-apocalyptic East Berlin underground comic.

@Cacti: I enjoyed the revisionist history that pretended the Spartan military wasn’t built on a culture of pederasty.
I enjoy conservative academics tying themselves in knots trying to tell us that Hellenic pederasty is not every bit as silly, if not moreso, than certain tribes in Papua New Guinea’s firm fixed belief that pre-adolescent males must fellate grown men to “acquire the seed” and complete their sexual development.
Even more, I enjoy the ancient Greeks’ attempts to tell us so. Exhibit A: the Symposium.

They played it at an event I was at on Saturday night — I think it’s more like this year’s “Macarena.” I had to stream the video to my phone to show some co-workers who had no idea why people were prancing around the dance floor like they were riding horses.

This post and comment thread are epic. And I’m assuming that the only reason Sarah PT hasn’t weighed in yet is because as soon as she saw this video she hopped a plane to Annapolis to, well, invite these delightful young gentlemen to, ahem, tea.
