I was reading mistermix’s post on the Romney campaign’s latest move of brilliance and it occurred to me that his final line would make a fine bumper sticker for Team Mitt. So, here it is…
I look forward to their next demonstration of their awesomeness.
Cheers

TPM reports that Romney told GMA that Obama will lie during the debates. Can’t link & can’t look for GMA video. Too busy alternating HULK SMASH and barfing. There is no low to which Romney won’t stoop.

Pat Caddell was essentially saying on Fox that Romney’s campaign is fucking the chicken, except he didn’t use that exact phrase, but rather something about how astonishingly incompetent the Romney campaign is.

Romney just told George Snuffleupagus that 100,000 isn’t middle income. Middle income only comes if you’re making 200,000-250,000 per year.

It’s true. Obama will refer to Romney as an honorable man and a worthy candidate for the presidency. Complete lies.

I don’t follow politics as closely as most of you. I’m a bit stumped at what is going on with the Romney Campaign. Since he was our Governor for a bit we were forced to learn a little about the guy. Cold hearted, selfish, money-grubbing, bulling, entitled SOB. Got that pretty fast.
I never once picked up on dumb. Now that’s all I can see. What in the world is he thinking these days? He’s got the nut vote locked up already. He doesn’t seem to have the slightest clue to where this election is going to be won or lost. Seems like it’s already over. I’m one of those middle of the road folks you all love to hate. I am completely repelled by what I’m seeing. Okay, I was already there. Now I’m repelled from a completely new angle. Looks just as awful from here.

@curiousleo:
This.
I’m still… uh… not “shaking” with loathing for the guy, I’ve never known myself to do that (do people actually do that?) but if I did, that’s what I’d be doing. Has been for the last two days, and I’m still not calmed down. Probably has something to do with having a parent who was career State Department (a profession I’m used to hearing their side of the aisle shit and piss on at every opportunity, which makes the sudden concern-trolling that much more pathetically transparent). The victim-blaming aspects of their whining at the Cairo embassy aren’t lost on me either.
I don’t think we’ve had such an utter piece of fucking shit run for president in any of our lifetimes. At least Nixon had a work ethic and plenty of brains. At least Goldwater had the integrity to say what he believed (poor guy). Bush was a scumbag, but in that rich-kid, I-don’t-give-a-shit kind of way – I know he didn’t care about anyone’s suffering, but I never got the sense that he actually got off on the suffering of others, whereas Romney sends out that vibe in spades. The Ovenmitt’s that perfect mix of absolute incompetence, utter mendacity and perfect sociopathy.
Maybe Reagan was like this. I don’t know (was a year old when he left office). He definitely had the mendacity and sociopathy, but even he didn’t have the levels of incompetence Romney’s promising, I don’t think.

Maybe, but it’s also possible that Mitt is just so insulated from reality he really believes the “we are the majority” crap the nutbars have been pushing since Carter’s day and that pandering to the teabaggers is really how to win Real America.
I also wonder if Mitt has some clumsy October surprise plot up his sleeve. Republicans always get really smirky and oily when they think they’re putting one over on the people. Remember Dubya’s would-be Machiavellian crap with all the terror alerts and stuff?

The smart money’s in private equity. Especially if you can structure the holding company so that you can set the value of the common stock low enough that you can fit them into tax-advantaged accounts. That’s how Ann Romney got an IRA worth tens of millions of dollars. She didn’t do that by stock picking or buying Fidelity mutual funds.

also too, the group to which he’s referring (200-250K) make up less than half of that 4%. so according to mittens, the middle class makes up less than 2% of households.

But remember: he was their best candidate. Everyone else was worse. Yes, and had less money, true, but you couldn’t polish those turds. They were all either dumber (Perry), more gaffe-prone (Cain), more boring (Pawlenty), crazier (Bachmann), or even more repellent (Santorum).

This, a thousand times over.
The charitable spin has always been that Romney has problems relating with others, or Romney lacks warmth and empathy, but I think his core problem is that he is dumber than a box of rocks. He may be ambitious, dishonest and ruthless, but he is simply not a very intelligent person.
We are so conditioned to believe that people who went to Harvard and have lots of money must be intelligent, and it is just not true.
The media play the same game with Ryan who was portrayed as the “policy wonk” and the “numbers guy” and the “details person”. He doesn’t seem very bright either.

Yep.
My uncle, bless his heart, has been doing the rounds of “Obama’s bringing down the world! This is just like 1979!” type comments on Facebook, and even there I caught a comment going “I am truly concerned about what is coming next with either candidate.”
I mean, can you blame them? They’ve already seen him betray all his previous positions to appeal to them, they know he’ll stab them in the back the second he thinks it’ll be good for him.

Probably because a core of them are deluded true believers, and the rest are getting well paid whether their advice is taken or rejected.

@scav:
Interesting. Here in the real world, the median U.S. household income is about $50,000. Income of $250,000 puts you in the top 1%, and $200,000 probably gets you into the top 5%. (Quick source from the Google.)
So what does Romney call the 95% of us who are below “middle-class”? I know, I know: “the help.”

100K, BTW, being about double median income in the US. but yeah, that aint ‘middle class’.

@4tehlulz:
Today Romney said:
“You know, I think it’s dispiriting sometimes to see some of the awful things people say,” Romney said. “And the idea of using something that some people consider sacred and then parading that out a negative way is simply inappropriate and wrong. And I wish people wouldn’t do it.”
And this is the statement that that the US Embassy in Cairo issued, which Romney attacked as apologizing for America:
“The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims — as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others.”.
Romney now seems to echo the statement of the US embassy in Cairo on Tuesday. The very statement that he condemned as an apology.
WTF?

@Joey Maloney: It means that after 250,000K you are wealthy. That makes sense to me actually. Around 200-300K, one actually stops being middle class and is actually upper middle class.
At that level, you can also invest in PE and Hedge Funds…the government doesn’t feel that people at that income level require the as strict as oversight of the SEC as investors below that level do. So it’s not like this is some kind of shocking revelation.

@Suffern ACE: It is likely true that there’s something of a difference in lifestyle when household income exceeds $200-250k, but that doesn’t mean $199k/year in income is “middle income.” While your first paragraph here is factually pretty accurate, there’s little chance that’s what Romney meant. He meant “I don’t actually know fuckall about income distribution in our country.”
As to your other assertion, it’s now $1M required to be an accredited investor, and that’s net worth, not annual income. Speaking as someone fortunate enough to be in what you called the “upper middle” class (I actually think anyone who makes $250+ is “lower upper” frankly), I can guarandamntee you I don’t have access to pe and hedge funds. As a practical matter, if you don’t in excess of $1M to actually invest, which would mean significantly north of $1M in net worth, they’re not casting a glance your way, “accredited” or not. There are too many institutionals and true high net worth individuals to chase to bother with paupers with a measly million bucks of net worth.
