Bill Frist is getting a divorce from his wife, Karyn. And Barney Frank is happily married to his friend and lover of many years, Jim Ready.

Open Thread, and it’s also time for a jobs thread. If you need one, let us know in comments. If you know of one, likewise, let us know. As always, the US Government is hiring right now. Join me. We want more members for my union, the American Federation of Government Employees.
One final note–if you think FYWP is hard to comment in, you should try composing a blog posting.

Took her 30 years to figure out he’s an asshole?

I was in Nashville a couple months ago for a wedding. My in-laws, who actually live in Frist’s neighborhood, and whose son went to school with Frist’s son, mentioned that all was not well with that marriage. Evidently they were correct.

Nice US Open final we have going here. Novak about to tie it up at 2 sets all..

Maybe if Frist had viewed his wife on videotape he could have sooner diagnosed the problem in their marriage.

Through a twist of…something, I regularly speak with two of the DeLay kids on Facebook. They’re as bad as their father/father-in-law, but dumber. For the first time today, I backed them completely down. I asked them if Romney/Ryan would be cutting the home mortgage, charitable giving, or state and local tax deductions to pay for his tax break for the wealthy. If not, what does he intend to cut? “Obama lies!” Not my question, sweetie. Can you point me to a document?

The (distant) future threat of same sex marriage destroyed my own marriage twenty-some years ago, although neither my ex-wife nor I realized it at the time.
I also attribute most of my current health problems to the possibility that voters will approve Washington State’s gay marriage law in November. “They” really have it in for me.

Thanks for that gov link. I’m going to pass it on to my dad. He is in his fifties and has spent almost a year looking for work. He gets turned down for everything he is qualified for in large part because of his age. Not officially, of course.

Since this is an open thread, I need a lowlights of blogging history lesson. Who was the blogger who once posted that she stopped to lecture little kids who were giving away lemonade at their lemonade stand instead of selling it?

I’ve never met the Frists, and I live hundreds of miles away from them. However, I have seen Bill Frist on TV before, and may have even seen brief footage of him walking somewhere with his wife, and based on that, I would deduce that the cause of the breakup is that Mr. Frist was really into anal, while his wife hated it.

Random gripe: the local public radio network pulled my favorite show, The World, from its schedule starting tonight. It also filled the semi-empty jazz slot (the local host retired a few months ago) with more talk. I am thoroughly annoyed by this development.

Despite cuts to state and local government, I suggest everyone needing a job to get to know how your state hires. Check out their HR websites. You may be surprised by the variety and number of jobs available.
I have hired at the state level and am usually disappointed by the quality of the applicant pool.

RT @markos: Bill Frist is getting divorced, which is very pro-marriage. || I saw a video of his wife & I think I can fix this marriage.

If you’re in the Minneapolis area, my roommate’s employer is hiring. It’s working with mortgages-they’re really swamped. It is an 18 month “temporary” position but she’s getting paid time off and health insurance. (Plus buckets of OT.) email me: user name at yahoo and I will send you the info.

Why oh why did Lil’ Bush’s buddy not go to the very Reverend Pat Robertson for marital advice?????

Wait – Frist had to divorce his wife when Barney Frank got married? Did he just get the short straw?
Don’t know about the Jesus stuff, but Frist was able to diagnose Terri Schiavo from a video.

Anent to nothing important; just upgraded the tower to NVIDIA weapons-grade dual video cards running in SLI. Woo-hoo! Now I’m enjoying Netflix on one monitor while boring you here on another and playing CIV 5 on a third. The box is running a six core CPU and 16GB of RAM.

I don’t think Frist should be allowed to get his divorce until we let every member of Congress review his marriage and decide for themselves. Actually meeting his wife is of course optional.

I am leaving my position in Houston, and moving to San Francisco. I do UX: user experience and usability. Aerinbear at gmail dot com. I am leaving TX in 2 weeks.
I’d be able to post my lame-ass programmer job in Houston… but then last week my company decided to lay off and outsource most of our IT department. So, my boss is gonna try to pick up one of the layoff-ees instead of hiring outside the company. If anyone knows IT positions in Houston, I know a couple of folk that are really talented who are now looking.

Hi!
I’m a long-time lurker/occasional commenter here. I currently edit RedGREENandBlue.org, a website of politics and the environment. It’s a part-time gig, and I could use more paying writing work….
I’ve done newspaper and magazine writing, website content, marcom, and I also wrote content for the exhibit on climate change at the new California Academy of Sciences museum in San Francisco.
Any leads would be very much appreciated!
Thanks…

Looking for work in Ottawa,ON. I have done many casual terms for the GoC (policy research, report writing, etc). Worked in developmental disability (mid-level management, research, project management, advocacy). Am almost happy to re-relocate back to any state between here and Lexington, KY. They really hate immigrants here in a polite, understated Canadian way.

@PeakVT:
The World is on-line at KCRW.com twice a day. I assume it’s also available via KCRW’s very good iOS app.
WBGO, the best jazz station on earth, streams on-line and has a good app. Just don’t listen at 6:00 a.m. Eastern time on Saturday (unless you have a thing for unintentional comedy).
PeakVT
@burnspbesq: Obviously, there are multiple online sources. I just like having both on the radio. And I miss having a jazz radio show host that didn’t sound like a jazz radio show host.

You may have heard that HP is laying off people again. Well maybe in some areas, but in many departments we are hiring because of a lot of people taking the very tempting early retirement package. (It tempted me, I’ll tell you.) Anyway, check the jobs postings at http://www8.hp.com/us/en/jobsathp/index.html. And keep checking back. I know that some openings in my department have not been posted because the paperwork has not yet gone through.

I didn’t see AFGE come out to APWU info-pickets, though. We gotta stick together, guys.

I suspected the Feds were hiring in some areas when I got word via some of my old members (NTEU) that they would even take ME back if I was innerested (I wasn’t). My lordy lordy, they even offered us training positions in (gasp!) Afganistan for loads and loads of money (again, no, thanx). Nope. Genteel retirement is my game these days.
Now get off’n my lawn!

In Frist’s Presbyterian faith, only desertion and adultery are grounds for divorce. Perhaps we’ll find out which was the stargate for this display of family values.
