Tomorrow, it will be 104 degrees, and Wednesday it will be 102 degrees.
In September.
So I’m hanging out and watching Harry Potter movies with soonerdaughter.
If there are any AGW denialists out amongst our commentariat, please DIAF, which you can do here in OKC just standing in my backyard.
It seems that there was no post-convention bounce for Rmoney. If things keep going like they have been for him, he might get a ‘dead-cat bounce,’ at some point, however.
ADDED–soonerdog, AKA Melody, the SuperBichonRunt.
Additionally, Military Judge COL Denise Lind, JA scheduled trial for February 4 to March 15, 2013 for PFC Bradley Manning.

No bounce at all for Romneybot? How sad! All that lying is not paying off.
Schlemizel
I have my problems with James Carville but he is a debate master! Saw him on Colbert; he had a great come back. Steven asked him how big a bump Rmoney/rAyn would get he said “Oh, maybe 2 points.” Colbert noted Willards people said they expect 11 points.
Carville looked him straight in the eye and said: “It was the Rmoney team that put Eastwood on the stage”
patroclus
Most of the reputable polls are showing no discernible bounce for Romney, but Rasmussen decided to inexplicably inflate Obama’s numbers a few days before the R convention, so that they could de-inflate them immediately following the convention so as to show a 5-6 point bounce. I think the race is still close nationally but Obama’s got slim leads in most of the key battleground states.

Yeah, high 70’s to low 80’s, with warm nights, for the next week.
I know that sounds deliciously cool, if not downright cold, to people in OK right now, but that’s pretty damn warm for the Mid-Hudson Valley in Upstate NY – especially AFTER LABOR DAY!

How is Sooner Doggie?

BTW – don’t worry about climate change. It will snow someplace this winter and that will prove there is no climate change.

86 and humid in MI. I’m fine with this. My wife hates temps over 62 degrees. Went shopping today. Was comfortable until going into stores and getting hit by AC blast. Like stepping into a meat locker.
SiubhanDuinne
Temps like that, it’s going to be hard to pack away all the white clothes until next May 30th.

It’s been cooler and foggier on the coast this summer ’cause all you inlanders are hoarding all the heat.

@c u n d gulag: Last year, we had, for the first time ever, snow in October! (And then not again until the end of February.)

Same here, Grunt. Rumors of a front next week.

Nothing to see here, move along, ignore the fact that Seattle except for TWO DAYS last month never got above 75.

@schrodinger’s cat: new pics added. She’s just fine as long as one waits on her every want and need.
Otherwise she shits in office.

I wonder if you’re planning to weigh in on “Mark Owen’s” book about Seal Team Six’s Osama operation. “Owen” is reportedly disputing the White House’s version of how it went down; the Department of Defense says it might sue him for not letting them vet the book; The New York Times is saying “Owen” apparently wrote the book because he has some kind of beef with Seal Team Six. I’m curious about this thing.

I was re-watching Jon Stewart’s great opening monologue from his 8/31 show again (I actually found myself cheering at the TV), and wondering just how Mittens romance with the past would play with the public. Nice to know not everyone thinks America should be one big mayberry.

Yay, doggie!
And I’m sure what’s-his-nuts, the resident Romneybot, would be deeply saddened by your talk of no post-convention bounce for Romney. The poor thing will be waiting till Christmas to see polls that finally get past the lag period and show Romney’s true post-con bounce.
Actually, I recall reading somewhere that there really was an appreciable post-GOP-con bounce, of four points — for Obama, on Intrade.

@patroclus:
It continues to annoy me that Nate Silver continues to give weight to Rasmussen polls when they are so obviously biased.
So many commenters at 538 pointed out before the convention that Obama moved into the lead so that Rasmussen could create the illusion of a bounce. And sure enough that’s exactly what happened.
So much of the horse race polling relies on Rasmussen and Gallup daily tracking, which both skew to the right. I don’t think this race is as close as people think.

Yeah, that snow storm before Holloween, when a lot of the trees still had leaves on them, was unbelievably destructive.
Some people not too far from us were out of power for over a week! My sister’s power was out for 5 days.

@Amir Khalid: Well, I don’t know who this Owen guy is. Was a he a member of ST 6? An attachment?
Even if he was the specific trigger man, I frankly gotta ask “so what?”
He can dispute certain details. But he can never prove anything. There will never be a circumstance where SOCOM issues a public statement that says anything like a confirmation. And again, so what?
Even if the sole order was to kill OBL and not a “kill or capture” order*, he was a walking command and control node, and killing the enemy commander is permitted under the laws of armed conflict. The ONLY people in the world who seem to be distressed that OBL is no longer drawing breath are the Al Quaeda membership and the US Republican party.
On a side note, any conservative who whines that we didn’t try to capture OBL would be the first one to give any indication that they actually care about such things as laws or the country’s international standing and reputation or anything else.
*And I believe that for various reasons, not the least of which were the logistics involved in a trial, and the fact that the only thing worse than no trial is a faked show trial, that the order was to find and kill OBL at all costs.
JPL
Sure Soonergrunt, There might be climate change but is it man-made??????????? Crazy minds want to know.
@SiubhanDuinne: ABL’s twitter mentioned a tribute to Cong. Shirley Chisholm race for the presidency. Thought you would find that interesting.
Soonergrunt
@Amir Khalid: And another point–if “Mark Owen” violated the law with respect to his confidentiality agreement and his security clearance, then it’s my opinion that he, like Bradley Manning, needs to be arrested, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. As a retiree, he’s subject to UCMJ and recallable to active duty for just that purpose, but he could also be tried in civilian court.
I am given to understand that part of his beef with ST6 has to do with him not being promoted in what he considered to be a timely manner. That kind of surprises me because most the Spec Ops guys I’ve known (not that there are many, but still) didn’t really appear to give a shit about rank.

@Soonergrunt: My grandpup is a maltese and she is the happiest pup around. The only complaint I have is her hair grows an inch a hour.. That is only a slight exaggeration but call me lyin Ryan if you must.
Nona’s masters finally started grooming her themselves because it does get pricey. Are bichon’s that way?
Violet
@Soonergrunt: I just adore Soonerdog. She looks like the sweetest thing. She is absolutely the exact opposite type of dog I’d expect someone called “Soonergrunt” to have. I keep thinking your dog will be some big manly dog, like a German Shepherd or Doberman or something. And thing Soonerdog and her fluffy white cotton candy sweetness shows up. Makes me laugh every time when you show us her picture.

@Soonergrunt: I, and I’m sure a great many people, would have liked to see bin Laden stand trial. But there’s no question it would have been prohibitively tough to pull off. Much simpler to give him the extra-large eye socket, and as such a symbolic skull-fucking.

Low 80’s, cloudy w/ some rain in Southern Jersey. Global warming is a myth, since my determination of whether it is real or not extends only as far as what the weather is like, when I step outside my door. /snark

@JPL: We have to have her professionally groomed about once a month. Our big problem with her is that if we don’t bathe her on a weekly basis, which she
hates, then she gets to stinking.@Violet: I originally wanted a bigger dog, like an Alaskan wolf mix or some such, but my daughter was the one pushing for the dog, and since we got it for her birthday, she picked the breed. When she brought home the dog, about 9 weeks old, it looked like a cotton ball with eyes.

Thanks, I did see that and of course I found it interesting. Wish I could be there for it!

That is a seriously huggable dog. I want to just grab her and talk baby talk to her.

@Soonergrunt: He was a CPO which is the hardest rank to make in the Navy. It get real narrow after that. Secondly SOF guys always get promoted fairly easily. If he didn’t, that’s probably something on him.

There has to be more to the story as to why Owen did this.
I find the whole thing just strange. His book is the top seller at Amazon.

@CW in LA: Here’s the thing. NOBODY believes that OBL would’ve had a snowball’s chance in hell of getting acquitted and released.
And even if he were acquitted (there are idiots in the country, after all,) does ANYONE believe for one minute that ANY administration would ever release him?
Violet
@Soonergrunt: Awww…that’s so sweet. She looks like a real sweetie, too. I just love the photos of your dog. Keep ’em coming.

@Cassidy: That’s what I was thinking. Because even units like ST6 have TO&E or whatever the Navy calls them.
I’m sure that in a unit like the SEALs, Chiefs are not all that rare, but you’re still going to have a pyramid, with very few Seniors and Masters.
As a guy who never thought he’d make E-6 in the first place, let alone E-7, I never really thought about it, myself. Also, it was a (mostly) part time gig for more than half of it, so I didn’t really care that much except on deployment when it was my primary income.

Nope, I don’t either. In fact I think it is going to be very VERY decisively for Obama. That said, imma keep sending money and volunteering to get people registered and to the polls. Overconfidence is a death knell.

Do you live in Scott Garrett’s district? I despise that little fuck. Does he have a chance of losing this year?
Amir Khalid
@Soonergrunt:
Well, it might be a campaign-season attempt at a subtle Swift-boating of what is, after all, Obama’s most spectacular national-security success. But for the reasons you cite, if that’s what it is then it’s a pretty feeble one. Aside from “Owen” having a personal beef with Seal Team Six, it’s the only explanation I can think of.
Mnemosyne
@Amir Khalid:
I’m convinced that conservatives are trying to turn the Bin Laden killing into Obama’s Pat Tillman or Jessica Lynch fiasco, but the trouble for them is that there really isn’t much difference between the official story and the ones these guys are telling. Their big relevations seem to be minor differences in the retelling, not something as big as covering up the fact that Tillman was killed by friendly fire.
Mike Lamb
It’s 105+ here in PHX and will be in that range for probably the next 10 days at least. I hate September here because your brain says it should be fall, and it’s still hot as a crotch. Anyways, I’ve decided to force the issue by drinking nothing but fall seasonal beers. The Sierra Nevada Autumn Tumbler is very nice this year, as is Sam Adams’s Octoberfest.

I’m sitting out on the deck with Bozo the 3-legged dog (profiled here at BJ a while back) as he dries from a bath. The 14-year-old guy is still game although his arthritis is clearly a bother.
Soonergrunt, I supported a federal office in OKC for almost 3 years and didn’t realize you were there until after that office got “taken away” from me and given to a contractor to support. Too bad because I would have loved to have talked turkey with you over a tastee adult beverage or six.

@Soonergrunt:
That dog is unreal. She looks like a widdle stuffed animal.
Mnemosyne
@Amir Khalid:
With the Iraq shenanigans, it’s difficult to tease out where the desire to make a hero out of Jessica Lynch came from, but IMO it was much more driven by the Bush administration’s need to make the invasion look like it was going well than by the military. The Bushies needed a hero, the military tried to manufacture one for them but, as you said, they didn’t count on Lynch being an honest person who wasn’t interested in being famous.
Plus, as CW in LA pointed out, trying to draw a parallel between the Tillman or Lynch PR fiascos and the Bin Laden operation is particularly dumb since very few Americans think it was a bad thing that we took out Bin Laden, unlike the death of a football hero or the capture of an American soldier.
soonergrunt (nexus 7)
@Amir Khalid: At the end of the day, OBL is a memory, and nobody who can vote in an American election really cares if the i’s were dotted or the t’s were crossed.
I think that most people also understand that if the raid went bad that Obama would have been excoriated.
