Asshole extraordinaire Steve King is concerned about the fact that Iowa State University has multicultural groups, because Multiculturals are nothing but whiny bitches who haven’t yet beheld the tremendous blessings in this great society of ours, and they do nothing but complain all the live long day:
I went to the Iowa State website and […] I typed in “multicultural” and it came back to me, at the time, 59 different multicultural groups listed to operate on campus at Iowa State. It started with Asians and it ended with Zeitgeist, so from A to Z, and most of them were victims’ groups, victimology, people that feel sorry for themselves and they’re out there recruiting our young people to be part of the group that feels sorry for themselves. […]
And then, you’re brought into a group of people that are–have a grievance against society rather than understand there’s a tremendous blessing in this society.
I mean, what the hell, minorities? Steve King is doing the best he can to make you feel welcome! He has yearned for the days when only white dudes who owned property could vote; he thinks dog-fighting is super awesome; he has compared immigrants to dogs; he has pretended that rape victims are an urban legend; and he has claimed that diversity is bullshit and that English should be the official language of these United States.
What more does he have to do to get you to quit bitching about everything all the time? Treat you like a human being or some shit?
You ask for too much!

On one hand, I’m tired of hearing about these awful people. On the other, I’m thankful that you’re out there every day exposing them.

This whole “Why isn’t there a NAAWP?” schtick will never get old.

If Iowa State sent him into such a tizzy . . . . , well, he better not look further east . . . .
and “victims’ groups, victimology, people that feel sorry for themselves and they’re out there recruiting our young people to be part of the group that feels sorry for themselves.” must mean that Y was for Young Republicans.

Keep. Him. Talking. Even the low info voters in his district are bound to notice that he is a mouth-breating troglodyte. Go Christine Vilsack!!

This being Steve King, I’m certain he tied it into some fantasy of pedarasty and abortion. Or was this an off day for him?

sorry to go OT so soon…..y’all can try to get credentials to the last night of the DNC for Pres. Obama’s speech @BarackObama.com convention. Well be passing out tickets this weekend.
Imani, I want to buy you a drink in Charlotte, if I get my own credentials. John too, if he’s feeling sociable. LOL If you don’t have time, can I at least get a hug? LOL

It is safe to say that in 21st century America, the group engaging in the most self-pity and holding the longest list of grievances are white Christian conservatives. These are people who are in a constant state of outrage over everyone and everything. Rep. King needs to go soothe away his sorrows with a nice big meal of Chik-fil-A.

With a MOE of 3.1 percent, does that mean that Romney could draw -3% of black voters? Could they actually take votes away from him?

When considering Steve King, one’s mind wanders into the world of food. And Iowa is quite the place for food! I believe there are more pigs in Iowa than most any other state. And the corn that feeds the pigs, one of life’s simple pleasures when slathered with butter. I once ate a meal in Des Moines. It was pretty good (Applebees?).
So, anyway, this brings us back to diversity, and its importance. Without diversity, you might only have one or two things to eat. Thusly we return to Steve King, who is therefore bad. Think Taco Bell. Yum.

As a white male I sometimes get a bit worried that one of these assholes might piss off the majority of votes so much that they’d start legislating against us.

Unfortunately, none of my Iowa relatives live in that district, so they will not have the opportunity to vote against the odious Steve K.

As a non-4th district Iowa resident, I apologize from the bottom of my heart for this jerk. I’m supporting Christie Vilsack, wife of a former 2-term governor (hence some residual popularity), but can’t actually vote for her.

I shall endeavor to post only once. Here goes!

Not a single one in the city proper. Can’t speak for the burbs, mind you. But Des Moines itself actually has a pretty killer restaurant scene. It’s a city of 300,000 people, fairly progressive, and not at all represented by Steve King. Come back through sometime. I’m new to Iowa, but I’m picking up on the niceness pretty quickly.

@? Martin:
Okay, going into full blown pedant mode here. Margins of error aren’t really taken from the normal distribution. They’re actually the lognormal. That means that the standard deviations actually measure the ratio of the point on the distribution rather than the difference. So the true value cannot, in fact, be below zero. (This is beside the fact that the MoE of 3.1% is for the full sample. With any of the smaller subsamples, the MoE gets bigger.)
For most polling results, the difference between the answer you get treating the distribution as normal and the answer using the lognormal is so small as to be entirely unimportant and people reading the poll’s writeup have an easier time understanding what is said if you talk in terms of a margin of error rather than a margin of the ratio of the error. It’s only if you get results in the single digits or above 90% that you start to get a meaningful divergence between them.
If the result really was *zero* people who were black picked Romney, then the math goes wacky, because you end up trying to divide by zero when computing the variance. The proper response at that point is just to say, “The shit is low.”
Anatoliĭ Lъudьvigovich Bzyp (formerly Horrendo Slapp, Jimperson Zibb, Duncan Dönitz, Otto Graf von Pfmidtnöchtler-Pízsmőgy, Mumphrey, et al.)
The more I see of these clowns, the more hopeful I become about holding the presidency and the Senate, and even making some inroads in the House. What floors me is the sublime skill the Republicans have in fucking themselves over. And what that all comes down to is that Republicans are assholes. They can’t help behaving like assholes because they are assholes. This is, I think, the best thing Democrats have going for them, as people, as a rule, don’t like assholes.
I have a hard time believing that the Republican Party has conned itself into becoming the Asshole Party, but they have. It seems nuts that they would think that running explicitly as assholes would help them win consistently, but they do. And it’s true, this country has a reliable base of 27% who are assholes, and that’s a good base to build on, at least in theory. The snag is that you can’t win with 27%, even if that 27% is made up of some of the nastiest, most vicious, violent assholes to ever foul this country, since most of the other 73% finds the assholes utterly repellent.
I’m just having a blast, watching these guys say something every other day to piss off half of the country. This isn’t something that happens twice a year; when your people show their assholishness as often as these people do it isn’t a fluke, it’s a pattern, it’s a trait, it’s part of your character. And the more these turds show their true selves to the world, the better off we’ll all be.
Patricia Kayden

It’s too bad you folks can’t take Congressman King’s words at face value. In true liberal form, you have to fabricate things to make your stance look somewhat reasonable.
